Why is "Cinderella's" Castle incorrect?

Why must it be Cinderella Castle and not Cinderella's Castle. It's her castle, isn't it? Or it is once she marries the prince, right?

Just wondering why people who use the -'s- at the end of Cinderella get corrected. Can anyone fill me in?

for no better reason than that's its actual name. why? couldn't rightfully say other than it may have something to do with the original Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland which is *not* Sleeping Beauty's Castle, nor was the original intention ever for it to be so. Sleeping Beauty was tagged to it just to promote the upcoming film.

so when they built the MK, presumably they carried on the tradition except that they awarded the title to another princess.

I don't think Cinderella Castle was originally presented as "Cinderella's Castle" in the sense that it was meant to represent where Cinderella lived. For example, it was home for years to King Stefan's Banquet Hall (King Stefan is Sleeping Beauty's father.)

Thanks for your responses, but I still don't understand what that would make the phrase "Cinderella Castle" more correct.

I don't mean to be picky, but I also know that some people are picky about not using the "s".

The official name of the castle is Cinderella Castle. In official Disney materials, the castle is referred to as Cinderella Castle. Calling the castle Cinderella's Castle instead of Cinderella Castle is like calling someone Henry when his name is Charles.

Yes ... this is kind of odd :confused3 (and I did call it Cinderella's Castle for a LOOOONNNGGG time!).

Think of it as a "SOMETHING Castle" but not a person.

Say it was a big green color castle and the name was "Green Castle" -- it isn't Green's Castle ... it is called GREEN Castle.

Or another thing ... it was a beautiful icy frosty white and it was called "Snow Castle" -- not SNOW'S Castle!! It is not owned by the snow nor does the snow live there! So it can't be SNOW'S Castle.

GET IT.

It is such a lovely castle and themed so beautifully to tell the story of our little girl in the cinders ... so it is named "Cinderella Castle" (it is NOT Cinderella's Castle - she doesn't live there or own it ... it just is beautiful and when we see it we think -- Isn't that just like a "Princess Castle" should be!!) (I kinda made that up -- not officially Disney but just my wild interpretation as to why it is named as such)

Does that help any??? :)

How about this analogy. It's the Empire State Building not the Empire State's Building. The Sears Tower not the Sears' Tower. Cinderella Castle is named after Cinderella not owned by Cinderella, although they have blurred that line in recent years.

I'm giggling because I TOTALLY get it now! The way you all explained it made perfect sense.

Thank you! :worship:

Every person or every place has a right to call itself whatever it wants, right or wrong.

The county seat near Atlantic City, NJ is Mays Landing. It is the area where Capt. George May landed, settled, and bought acres and acres. Since it is the site where May landed, proper grammar for the site would have it called May's Landing. But the apostrophe either was never there or never stuck. It is officially named Mays Landing, not May's Landing. Right or wrong, the town officially named itself Mays Landing.

Greenland is mostly icy and Iceland is mostly green. They were named that way to attract and discourage emigration, respectively. The names were lies, not even mistakes, yet they are the official names.

:goodvibes :goodvibes

I have never seen it corrected. If the 's was added, who would take the time to correct somebody on it, on a Net BB no less? :confused3

I understand the diffence and the reasoning, but just another thought. Now that they finished Cinderella's Dream Suite, she does live there now..right? Or is it supposed to be called Cinderella Dream Suite?

How's this,,,,,I still call it MGM,,,,not Hollywood Studios....always have and always will...ºOº

And I still find myself saying Epcot Center - of course my kids look at me strangely, but I don't care.

I always found it odd that King Stefan's was inside Cinderella Castle - but again, I didn't really care. The food was good, the experience and atmosphere was great - it didn't matter to me or my DW that they were simply selecting names from their film library for Fantasyland locations.

Even though she might not "have" a castle to call her own, she does "have" a carousel, though, apparently since it's CINDERELLA'S Golden Carousel... :rotfl2:

And I still call the Winnie-the-Pooh ride "Mr.Toad's Wild Ride" -- boy, do people look at me strangely when I sing "We're merrily merrily merrily merrily on our way to no place in particular" in the Heffalump room.

I think anyone who corrects another about the proper term is really just trying to show off their superior Disney knowledge. Its proper name is Cinderella Castle. But Cinderella's castle (note the uncapitalized castle) is correct too! :thumbsup2

I think I will always be a Dixie Landings type guy, rather than Port Orleans.

If you have seen the christmas castle lights this past year, the little story they tell before lighting it has the fairy godmother coming out who says "Shouldn't Cinderella be the one who decides how to decorate the castle? Afterall, she lives here."

So I guess that would make it Cinderella's Castle. :thumbsup2

My guess is: it's named for the movie and not the princess.

The castle in Disneyland is Sleeping Beauty Castle, isn't it?
