Mondays: Give your kids a true Lowcountry experience at one of Outside’s Kids Camps! Starting June 10th and throughout the Summer, Outside will offer a variety of camps designed for young adventurers, aged 7 and up. All programs give kids the opportunity to get wet and have fun, under the watchful eye of Outside’s trained professional guide-counselors. Offerings include: Surf Camp, a 90 minute learn-to-surf program; Coastal Carolina Camp, a 2 day marsh exploration camp complete with kayaking; Kids Waterfun Day, 3-hours of on-the-water games in Broad Creek; Adventure Island, a chance for older kids to go boating and explore remote Page Island; and our Teen Stand Up Adventure which introduces teens to the fun, hip sport of paddleboarding. Ongoing: Learn how to play Pickleball, the fastest growing sport in the country, with daily clinics and round robins at the Palmetto Dunes Pickleball Center in Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort. Pickleball is a sport that combines the elements of tennis, badminton and ping pong. It is played with oversized ping pong paddles and a softball-sized plastic perforated ball that travels at about one-third the speed of a tennis ball. Courts and equipment available to rent. Ongoing: The Harbour Town Lighthouse Museum is open daily. Explore Hilton Head Island’s rich history and learn the story behind its famed lighthouse in this unique museum-like setting. Mondays: Immerse yourself in the fascinating Civil War history of Hilton Head Island with a visit to Fort Mitchel. The site contains the remains of a coastal defense battery erected in 1862 to protect the Port Royal Sound by way of Skull Creek from incursions by Confederate gunboats based in the Savannah River. Costumed characters and an expert tour guide will demonstrate the vital historic importance of this place and the role the fort and its namesake, General Mitchel, played in shaping Hilton Head history, including historic Mitchelville. July 1- Aug 4: Art Center of Coastal Carolina presents; A fabulously fun award-winning musical based on the adored movie, “Legally Blonde: The Musical,” follows the transformation of the beautiful and popular Elle Woods as she tackles stereotypes and obstacles in pursuit of her dreams.

Elle Woods appears to have it all. But, her life is turned upside down when her boyfriend Warner dumps her so he can attend Harvard Law. Tuesdays, July 1 – August 12: The Island Recreation Association is proud to bring you a fun-filled, festive atmosphere with the highlight of the night fireworks which start around 9 p.m. Kids of all ages can enjoy inflatable bounce houses and face painting for a minimal fee. 5 p.m., Shelter Cove Community Park. Wednesdays: 2019 Historic Bike Tours! Family-oriented bike tours of historic sites on Squire Pope Road. Hear the story of the Fishing Co-op and their victory over the development of a chemical plant on Victoria Bluff. See a Gullah Cemetery and an ancient Shell Ring, the Gullah Museum of Hilton Head Island, and see the tabby ruins of Cotton Hope Plantation–all with a knowledgeable tour guide. This tour is 2.8 miles in length. No children under 10, please. Bike & Helmet Included! Tours cancelled and refunded on rain days. The Gullah Reunion Festival transcends many families across the nation because of the high percentage of all African American’s ability to trace their roots back to South Carolina, We created this festival to help preserve and promote the Gullah culture, as well as stimulate economic growth within this endangered community. Our hopes are to help people connect thousands of people back to their Gullah Geechee family, their ancestral roots, and/or to provide a cultural event for people who just simply love, and enjoy the Gullah culture.

July 4: The 34th Annual Hilton Head Firecracker 5K Run and Family Fun Walk will be held on Thursday, July 4th 8 a.m. from Jarvis Creek Park on Hilton Head Island. The Hilton Head Firecracker Run is the largest and oldest road race in Beaufort County and one of the top ten races in the state of South Carolina. Over 1,700 runners and walkers from across the United States annually participate in this fun, healthy, family event. Some vendors will provide free small samples to runners. Cash sales for seconds and non-runners.

The festive post-race celebration features a Children’s Fun Run, music, fresh fruit, ice cold refreshments, door prizes, and more! A percentage of proceeds from the event benefits local charities including: The Hilton Head Rotary Club, Hilton Head High School Cross Country Team, and other local charities. July 4: Show off your red, white and blue spirit by decorating your bicycle, wagon, dog or kids for a fun-filled parade around Harbour Town! Meet at the parking lot adjacent to the Harbour Town Lighthouse at 8:30 a.m. to register and pick up decorating supplies. Parade line-up begins promptly at 9:30 a.m., and entries will be judged on patriotism. Supplies limited to the first 100 registered. Following the parade, join us for some holiday fun and activities. Every Tuesday night throughout the summer, Shelter Cove Harbour presents HarbourFest, a family-friendly festival on the waterfront at Shelter Cove featuring live music by Shannon Tanner, Cappy the Clown, face painting, carnival games, treats from vendors and fireworks to end the night in the most spectacular way! All of these fun activities are set amid great restaurants and shops. HarbourFest runs from 6-10 p.m., with Shannon Tanner taking the stage each night at 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m., before the fireworks. Cancellations may be necessary at the last minute due to the weather and notification will be immediately announced on this site.

July 8-12: STEAM Tinker Camp! STEAM Summer Camp is an exciting and hands-on learning opportunity for youth, with a special emphasis on the STEAM curriculum areas (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics). Campers will learn about concepts such as geometry, engineering, circuits, forces of motion, and simple machines, while creating projects like “Cranky Contraptions” and “Pendulum Paintings.” (Session 1 and 2 will complete different projects!) Saturdays: The Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn will continue to offer Sweetgrass Basket Making classes this summer. Classes will be held Saturdays, June 8, 29, July 13, 27 and August 10, 24 from 10:30 am until 12:30 p.m. Learn about the history of the Sweetgrass basket, one of the Lowcountry’s best known art forms, from a local Gullah basket maker. Then, try your hand at starting a basket of your own using locally found natural materials.
