Wheelchair rentals

I am planning an upcoming trip to Disney for the entire family, including my mom who will need a wheelchair to be able to get around the parks. I know every park at Disney has wheelchairs available to rent, but the price for these individual rentals are going to add up. Does anybody know of the cheapest way to rent a wheelchair at Disney? I will be there for 5 days and I am going to need one everyday that I go to the parks.

  They do rent smaller, 16 inch wide wheelchairs, suitable for smaller people (and children) between 80 and 135 pounds.
  Apple has many good reviews from DIS posters and is a long time favorite. There have been some recent (2015 and early 2016) negative reviews.

  They also service and repair personal equipment.
  Buena Vista has many good reviews from DIS posters and is a long time favorite.

  They rent ECVs, standing ECVs, manual wheelchairs, single and double strollers (weight limit to 60 pounds).
  From what I can tell, this company provides strollers, wheelchairs and ECVs for the WDW parks; and probably pool chairs. They also rent the large grey ECVs that can be rented in the parks, plus a form of Standing ECV that guests can drive from a standing position. Here is a link to a thread about them, with pictures.

The specific companies are listed because DIS posters have used and recommended them over the years. The companies with little feedback are listed along with that information.
We will NOT list a company on the FAQs thread without a significant number of recommendations from established posters. Also, some companies encourage/promote allowing children to ride as passengers on scooters. We will not knowingly post a link to any company that encourages behavior that is unsafe and companies that manufacture ECVs specifically warn against in their instruction manuals.

Definitely rent offsite. That way you can bring the wheelchair out of the park. The walk between the entrance and the parking lot/buses is one of the longest walks of the day!

Another consideration is to buy a lightweight travel wheelchair. On sale you can probably get one fo $150 or less. These wheelchairs are about 16 pounds and for me was a better choice than a heavier wheelchair. The heavier wheelchairs have a better wheel system, but the added weight of the wheelchair was not worth it for me.

You would then have the wheelchair with you if you are flying or driving. This can be helpful with rest stops and such.

The last time we did the "parks" we had a 5 day hopper, so I went to Guest Services and rented a wheelchair for the "length of stay" and there was a couple of dollar discount off the daily price. Whenever we hopped to a different park we needed to return the wheelchair and pick up a new one at the second park, no additional charges. Hope this helps!

Gold Mobility is also another option that everyone is loving.

By the way, I would strongly suggest an ECV, as pushing even the best wheelchairs through the parks can become very difficult, there are a lot more hills there than you realize and you don't notice them until you are pushing one all day. Really, it is exhausting.
