We may sell our 9 year old washer/dryer and fridge with the house. They are all Maytag brand. They run like new and look pretty new too. What do you think would be a fair price to sell them?

are you including this in the price of the house - or are you offering them to the buyer as a separate purchase?

when we sold our house last year, all our appliances were included - all new (3 years old or less) except for the dryer which was on it's last legs. We didn't charge 'extra' for the appliances - it was all included in the price of the house. And we didn't "bump" the price of the house up to accomodate them...it was like an incentive to buy.

But for 3 9 year old appliances - no matter what brand - I wouldn't charge more then $1000/1500.

I think that's waaaaayy too much. They 'may' be worth about 10% of what you bought them for.

really?
wow - and I thought I was low-balling because they are Maytags.

can you tell I've owned nothing more sophisticated then a Kenmore or Whirlpool? heheh

evidently if you want to jack the price up on something - sell it to me. heheheh

Usually, appliances are included in the price of the house and they are not charged for. As Stinkerbelle said, it is usually used as an incentive to buy. But for a separate sale, I would not pay much for 9-year old appliances. Probably like $500 total.

I figure they lose at least 10% of their value per year used. I have an 11 year old fridge (the new one is being delivered Saturday, thank God), as far as I'm concerned it's worth nothng. At this point, I'm paying the guys who are delivering the new one $10 to pick up the old one for me.

To the OP, I don't think you should add much, if any, to the price of the house for appliances that are almost a decade old.

actually - good point.

I know my DH bought his first washer/dryer off someguys front yard for $50. The washer lasted him 3 more years and the dryer was still working (when it wanted to) when we sold our house 2 years after the washer died. And, trust me, it looked EASILY 10 years old - wasn't worth crap IMO.

Guess I learned something today too. :) Thanks gymnasticsmom!

We are including the stove with the house, but the other's are negotiable. If they want them, they pay extra out of pocket cash. If not, we take them with us and I don't get my Neptune washer and dryer.
I was thinking maybe $600 for the 3.

I would not pay $200 a piece for 9 year old appliances when you can get brand new ones for not a whole heck of a lot more, unless you are talking high end stuff. I think they are probably worth in the neighborhood of $50 a piece for the washer and dryer, maybe $100 for the fridge. Newer appliances will have a longer life and be more energy efficient, plus you don't have to worry about whether you just paid $200 for something that will break in a week.

When we bought our house, the previous owner tried to sell us an 8 year old air conditioner for $150!!! He outright told me that he had no use for it and asked if I wanted it. This was after he didn't have his stuff out by the deadline. I said sure... he said he wanted $150 for it. I said "oh, well I will have to talk to my husband about that." That's code for "I really want to tell you to flip off but I can't do that so I'll avoid saying anything." Then, of course, he wanted my husband to help him load it into the back of his truck.

Of course this is also the same man who took the house numbers with him when he left. I'm surprised he didn't try to sell them to me for $10 a piece and then tell me to be grateful that the house number is only two digits!

Unreal!! Didn't somebody tell the guy that you can't take things that are attached to the house? Holy cow!! I hope his new address matched his old address and he didn't take them just to be a cheap jerk!! Why would anybody want the address off the house?? People amaze me!

I wouldn't pay $200 either. They're not worth it. The new buyer could get a brand new washer or dryer for twice the price.

For 9 yr old ones, I would look at them as more of a hassle to get rid of if I was going to bring in my own.

::yes::

In this situation, especially since you don't really want them, I'd say they're included with the house.

It's funny, but in my area you DO NOT take the stove, refrigerator, etc. with you. Those have to go with the house. If you want to take your stove/refrigerator, you must replace them with something. The only thing that you can take is the washer/dryer and a microwave that sits on the counter, but not a built in one. I'm not sure if it is a "law" but it sure seems like it. On the other hand, my SIL lives in Massachusetts and it seems to be common practice to move and take your stove with you!

Denine - Include it in the house and beg Jerry for the Neptune because you don't have a washer and dryer to do his laundry! ;) :p

Just throw in that you really don't want to have to drag Kaleigh to the laundromat because that is not a place for a little girl!!!

When I redid my kitchen I wanted all stainless steel appliances so I sold my 7 year old fridge for 50.00 and the same age stove for 25.00......a neighbor wanted them and I didn't even want to take money since I would have just had them throw them in the dumpster if they didn't but they insisted on paying for them

The average life expectancy of these is:

Washing machine, front load: 11
Dryer: 13
Refrigerator, side by side 14
Refrigerator, top mount 14
Refrigerator, bottom mount 17
Refrigerator, single door 19

I'd say the washer & dryer are pretty much used up. Maybe $25 to $50 each for the washer & dryer and no more than $100 for the fridge.

Thanks for your replies.

It is about 50-50 in our area as to whether appliances are left behind. Usually, the people that leave them, leave old stuff that no one would want. I have no problem taking my old appliance with me if the new buyers don't want them, but I wo uld say they have a lot of life left in them. A lot of Maytags last 20 years.

Be careful of the curse of the old appliance. As soon as you brag about it, it quits on you.
