My kids are both very blonde almost white hair. The end of their hair is green. I tried using the green removal shampoo form Snipt ITs and it does not seem to work.. Any other suggestions?? Thanks!!!!!!!

We had this problem for the first time last year and it's happening again this year. I looked on line and several sites said to wash their hair in ketchup or tomto paste. We did that last year. The kids hated it, but it worked after several tries. Then I found a Redken shampoo called UV rescue and that worked also.

Where did you get the shampoo???

This happene to me several times as a kid. After spending hundreds of dollars on items and hair dressers it was still green. My mom used tomato sauce. It took it right out. I hated the stuff but it does work. There are also pre swimming items that you can use for next time.

Just plain old tomatoes sauce???

Before you go into the pool, coat your hair with conditioner. That will prevent your hair from getting dried out and green.

This happened to my daughter this year. She swims every summer and this is the first time. She went swimming at a friends house who has well water. I found out online that it is from metals being in the water.

I used Suave daily clarifying shampoo ($1 at our dollar general) on her hair. It took a few washings, but it came out.
Someone also told me to put conditioner on her hair before she goes swimming, I guess the hair absorbs the conditioner and not the metals/:confused3

Ok I am going to look for hte Suave shampoo where like Walmart??

Ok I will start using the Paul Mitchell leave in conditioner?? Before they swim???

Walmart should have it. Any type of clarifying shampoo should work. Yes, conditioner before they swim.

Sally Beauty Suppy has clarifying packets you can use. I have never tried them but someone told me about them.

My kids seem to have luck with the Loreal kids after swim shampoo. It is all blue- and it works on my kids hair. As a kid- before fancy shampoo came out-I would just always rinse my hair right after I got out of a pool(I was very very blonde) I remember using my friend's hose all the time to rinse it out. But it worked never turned green. My sister, who was too cool for the hose, had green hair every summer.

check your local sporting goods store, too, in the swimmers section..they have a shampoo that is specially designed for de-greening:)
It works, I swim laps 3x a week usually, and when I had highlights, they started greening..this cleared it up, and kept the green from coming back. It was about 8.00 a bottle, but worth it:)

Yes. My mother was so not wanting to use it. She bought every shampoo on the market so she wouldn't have to use tomato sauce. We went to 2 hairdressers and the second one said to use tomato sauce. She put on on my hair and watched and waited and it takes a few minutes
and then just wash it out. And as a pp said coat your DD's hair in conditioner before swimming. No green hair and no chlorine dry out.

we always got my DD 's hair wet with palin water before she got in the pool. That way, the hair had already been saturated and did not absorb more chlorine

Two years ago, my daughter got one of the worst cases of green slime hair that I've ever seen. I didn't want to waste a lot of money on the de-greening shampoo, but I thought I'd have no choice. I tried the tomato sauce and it did nothing. I googled for more ideas and came up with baking soda, so I tried it. It took 3 applications to get all the green out, but it worked!

Just wet the hair and lather it up with any shampoo. Then pour some baking soda on top and work it in. Keep adding baking soda until the hair is kind of thick with it. It should take about 1/2 of a small box. Let it sit for about 10 minutes, then wash it out. You'll definitely see immediate results, but you might have to do it 2-3 times before ALL of the green is out.

Pre wetting the hair with water works great. We use Redken Cleansing Cream Shampoo 2T mix with 1 packet of Crystal Light Lemonade Singles leave on 15- 20 mins. then deep Condition. Rinsing the hair right after you get out of the pool helps also.

I agree with the baking soda. I haven't used it with shampoo on my hair-I rubbed it in on wet hair, like I was shampooing, then rinsed well and then washed my hair with a clarifying shampoo. It worked well.

Just a thought, if it's your own pool, for the future you could use chlorine-free treatments in the pool to eliminate the problem. That's what we use.

As a kid, my hair turned green and blue very damaged from chlorine. The only solution to it is a swim cap...otherwise Ultra Swim or Barracuda seemed to :help:! Barracuda is more expensive and harder to find.

I would dye my hair green LOL!!! :lmao:

Seriously though, pretreat -condition or at least wet hair with water before getting and immediately rinse hair out after swimming.

I have also used a Nexxus brand to get rid of it.

Good luck!

How gross is your pool filter and water later from that? My dad didn't even want us going in the pool with sunscreen on because it would gunk up the filter and water, but my mom insisted.

Chlorine-free pool chemicals would alleviate this problem in the future.
