What is the current drink cup situation onboard? Lids? Straws? Reusable cups?

Getting ready for our upcoming cruise and, as usual, suitcase space is at a premium with all the various exchange gifts, costumes, etc. we need to pack. (Don't even get me started on shoes! lol) Trying to decide if we need to make room for our own plastic cups and reusable straws or if we can make do with what's currently onboard.

A month or so ago DCL announced all plastic straws would be replaced with paper straws - is that transition complete in all areas of all ships now? What about lids at the 24-hour drink station? Are they still provided?

Not sure if this is true, but I've also heard DCL might be supplying reusable plastic cups in cabins?? Wondering if these have lids? Reusable straws? Are they meant as souvenirs or expected to remain in the cabin after each cruise like the (actual glass) glasses that are set out with the ice bucket? Does anyone have photos of these cups?

TIA!

On the Magic 2 weeks ago, there were no lids or straws available at the drink stations. No straws were provided in the MDR unless requested, and then it was a paper straw. I was provided a straw in the "drinks of the day" I ordered and they were paper straws.

I have not heard anything about DCL supplying reusable plastic cups in the cabins. Just the regular glasses were in our stateroom. And I can't imagine DCL would go to the expense of providing reusable plastic cups. That would defeat the environmental and financial impact of removing the straws and lids to begin with. If you want a reusable cup, you'll have to pack your own.

When we were on the Fantasy this past March they had reusable cups, plastic lids and Paper straws at the drink stations and we also had to ask for straws in the MDR (they were paper as well)
DCL did not provide any reusable cups in the rooms, we brought our own.
Have a great trip :)

On the Wonder the only lids for cups they had recently was the coffee-type lids. I didn't see the paper straws at the drink station. I'll be bringing a bigger cup for our upcoming cruise.

The paper straws we got in the drink of the day were quite robust, not flimsy at all. They don't stand up to someone chewing on them, but having refilled the "hurricane cup" with soda, they stood up to multiple drinks.

If you want a reusable plastic cup just grab one from Cabanas. They are always out and I like them more than the paper cups. The lids will not work with these but it keeps you from going through a ton of paper cups.

Are you saying you'll grab a fresh cup from Cabanas each time you want a drink? Because you are supposed to use a fresh cup each time you refill.

They no longer ask that you get a fresh cup or use a paper cup to fill your personal cup. The signs now just ask that you not touch your cup to the dispenser.

Then I wish I'd taken a picture of the sign I saw on the Magic 2 weeks ago, because it said to use a fresh cup for refills.

The sign I saw was above the machine like in the picture below.

So happy to hear that the coffee cups have the lids. That is my favorite way to drink most things (coffee, soda, water)

And those coffee cup lids also fit the paper soda cups if you happen to fill one and then realize you need a lid.

Is it good to bring those Disney World plastic refill cups to use on ship?
Or is the inside still too small, that we should bring other cups that hold more?

hold on! no coke zero on board?? and FOUNTAIN iced tea? :crazy2:

You can get brewed ice tea in the MDRs. Or I brew my own sometimes with the tea packets available. I refuse to drink fountain iced tea.

I've read mixed things on Coke Zero. It has been available sometimes but not all cruises on all ships. I'm a Diet Coke addict and I can't remember if Coke Zero was on my last cruise or not.

We didn't really run into issues with drinks on our 14n WBPC in Feb/March. The Wonder had only cold cups (no lids/straws) at the drink station, but the coffee station still had coffee lids, which fit fine on the cold cups (and reduce the need for a straw). We also brought Starbucks cold cups (which include a lid and straw) on our recent WBPC. They worked well, especially for missing our own milkshakes. And at $3 each, I wasn't going to worry too much if they got lost, broken, or didn't fit in the luggage on the way home (they did not, and they fit fine and we still use them at home). Frozen drinks did include a paper straw, but they were fairly sturdy - only once did I wish I had a second straw before I finished my drink.
