What happened to 1/2 gallons of ice cream?

Ice cream cartons in our area now only contain 1.75 quarts of ice cream, not a half gallon.

Is this something new or have I just not been paying attention?

I know that the "special edition" types of icecream and the some lowcarb ones come in 1.75 qts.....but the normal ones around here are still 1/2 gallons....I have 3 in my freezer right now...I just checked :D

Don't look at me, I did not eat it. :mickeybar :teeth:

But you better watch it, ice cream is my fav. I would do just about anythig for a big dish of ice cream. I could probably eat it easily. In fact I just finished a big bowl of Butter Pecan.

The great downsizing of product containers. Candy bars, yogurt, ice cream....They make the package smaller but don't change the price, thinking it looks better than raising prices.

The ice cream cartons were downsized last year when milk prices went up. Manufacturers thought the customers would stop buying if they also reaised prices, so they made the containers smaller. I guess they hoped you wouldn't notice, or care that you are paying more for less.

Exactly my thought about cans of coffee!

:magnify:

I remember two or three years ago one of the big ice cream manufacturers introduced its "New Space-Saving Package" which indeed saved space since it was SMALLER and thus contained less ice cream (at the same price)! I noticed they stopped printing "Space-Saving Package" on the label but it never did go back to its original size. Things like that make me mad.

EXACTLY, 100% correct.

It's like you read my mind! I was just at the supermarket, looking at the friendly's ice cream on sale and said, this container looks awfully small....sure enough it's not a half gallon any more.....so I started to look at the other brands and most of them aren't half gallons!! The only good to this is when you eat an entire container of ice cream, you aren't eating as much as you were before!!

hummm I didn't notice!!! :cool1: Guess I am in my own world...

Where the old containers the ones that the top was folded in the back vs the new ones that are the lids that come off???? Did that make sense?

My Friendly's 1.75 quarts I'm enjoying now has the "zipper" with the hinged lid. But most brands with the 1.75 had the lid.
