What all goes in the lanyard?

What are all the things you need to put into the lanyard for scanning? And how big are they? Could I use one of those clear nametag plastic cases, like the kind you get at a conference, to hold the items if I wanted to DIY a holder (I don't like anything around my neck!).

I can answer your question, but some more information would help me give you a better answer. Are you staying at one of the hotels that includes Express Pass? Will you have Express Pass at all? Do you have an annual pass?

Staying at HRH, so yes, we'll have Express Pass. We do NOT have annual passes, just 4 days of park-to-park tickets.

I'll put my ticket on one side with the barcode facing out, and my room key for EP on the other side with the barcode facing out. When you enter the park at the gates, they can scan your park ticket through the plastic. When you enter the EP queue, they can scan your room key through the plastic. It can be difficult to remove items from the plastic and then it causes it to rip, so its good to allow them to scan through it if you can. You'll also scan your park ticket if you go on a ride that requires your bag to be stored in a locker. Scanning of the park ticket allows the locker to be opened.

As PP mentioned, they're all credit card size. Are you thinking about wearing the nametag thing like as a pin on your shirt? You'd want both sides to be accessible for your ticket and EP, plus it may be too heavy for a pin and weigh it down on your shirt. You could just keep them in a lanyard and keep the lanyard in your bag, and pull it out when needed, if you don't want to wear it around your neck. For rides where you have to store your bag, you'll want to put the lanyard around your neck then so you can re-open your locker. A lanyard is the only thing permitted on your person for some rides.

I keep my room key (same as above, bar code facing out for easy scanning), my annual pass, my ID & a credit card. This lets me ditch the wallet completely and isn't a lot of weight around my neck. You can also buy those little credit card plastic holder bits that go at the end of your lanyard in the parks.

As others have said, put your ticket on one side with the barcode facing out so they scan it when they need to, and your room key/Express Pass on the other side with the barcode facing out so they scan it when they need to.

There are some rides where you not allowed to have anything in your pockets, but are allowed to wear a lanyard. However, if you are not into serious thrill rides or roller coasters, this may not be an issue.

Sorry to jump in here but what are they generally worth? Do you guys grab them at the hotel when you get your keys or order online or?
Thanks

Definitely not a pin, but I have some of those clear name tag cases that have a clip, or an opening. I could attach it to one of those stretchy bracelets or a retractable style clip. Not sure yet, just feeling out the size so I can think about it. That is a good idea and reminder though, that I need something I can use even without my pack for certain rides.

Please, jump in!! I'm always happy when my question isn't dumb, LOL, and others might also benefit from what I've asked.

Universal Store, Lanyards

They're definitely cheaper if you snag one off Amazon or something before you go on vacation, but I've had fun picking them out in the park. There are often seasonal ones.

These are so cute! I bought some HP lanyards on sale at Zulily (am I allowed to say that?) for $7 for my kids but I love that HP pouch and the retractable clips. What about those vaccination card clear pouches that I've been seeing on sale - would those be too big (3x5, I think)?

Do kids wear the lanyards, too? We are Universal newbies and will have EP, so wondering if we will all (adults and kids) need lanyards? I’m thinking it will make life easier?

If they are old enough to have ticket and an EP, then it's something worth considering. Some people really hate having something on thier neck all day, so if this would bother your children, it's not a good idea. If you think your kids will be totally fine with it, than go for it. Lanyards do make life easier at Universal.

Thank you for your reply! My kids will wear a lanyard without issue. They have worn them on the Disney Cruise. I’m assuming the hotel does not give you lanyards? We must buy them ourselves?

Correct, you'll need to buy your own. Every onsite hotel we've stayed at at UO has had nice selections in their gift shops if you want to wait 'til you get there 👍

@AlyCat44 I remember a great selection of lanyards right when we walked into Islands of Adventure (this was around 3 years ago so it may have changed), if that helps. You can also buy lanyards on the Universal website, or buy something generic on Amazon.com.

Do the kids get their own room card i.e. express passes? Or only the adults to scan for everyone?
