It's been quite a few years since we've been to V&A & have a reservation in a few weeks (was easy to get at 60 days BTW).

--Are men required to wear a jacket AND tie? If not, do most men? Or are some a bit more casual?
--Who do we call to tell about an allergy, that section wouldn't work when we made the reservation online?
--If you don't want wine, is there an option for mocktails?
Thanks

When we ate there in November, 2022, we got this email one week out from our reservation that asked for a response and addresses dress code and allergies. My son and I wore suits with jackets but no ties. There is a non-alcoholic beverage pairing that we chose instead of the wine. The drinks weren't really mocktails, but a variety of interesting beverages (along with explanations on how they were created) that were brought out with each course, just like a wine pairing would have been. If you weren't interested in pairings, I am also sure that they would be happy to make any type of drink that you wanted.

If you don't want wine, is there an option for mocktails?
I think there’s even a water pairing you can choose - search this forum for details. Someone posted a report last year and said the waters came from different locations and really did taste different and complemented the food just like wines do!

No ties required and you’ll receive an email querying on your likes and dislikes as well as allergies. It’ll come about a week before your reservation.

Yes, you can opt out of wine courses and switch to “mocktail” or water tastings ( forgot about that affectation, lol, so thanks for the reminder @CarolynFH )

I had the non-alcoholic pairing two years ago, and it was outstanding. They will ask carefully about allergies and also strong preferences several days before your dinner, and they honor them.

This tends to be a once-in-a-decade experience for us, but highly memorable and well worth it.

Men don't have to keep their jackets on the entire time. My husband didn't even bring his because it was so hot in Florida. It wasn't an issue at all. He did wear a tie.

i have always wanted to go here but something in me just cant excuse the price tag that it comes with. :(

Anyone remember a favorite memorable dish? Were any of them super spicy?
Nothing spicy at all 🙂
It was a whirlwind of deliciousness each time I’ve gone which tends to be over the winter holidays.

My most memorable food thought? DGD eating caviar for the first time ( it was an optional add on) and unfortunately she still likes it today and I have no one to blame but self, 🤣.

I know we had various red meat cuts (bison and beef), turkey, duck, seafood, fish… I’d have to look at a souvenir menu to be more specific.

1. Have been a few times, I've always worn a jacket, no need for a tie if you don't want to wear one. They also removed the jacket requirement a while ago, and while every time I've been I've seen almost everyone wearing a jacket, I've seen people on here saying mixed things about other's having experiences where almost no one wears a jacket. For me personally, I will keep wearing a jacket every time I go.

2. You get an email about a few days to a week prior to your reservation asking about preferences and allergies. I've always had some minor preferences (e.g. no shellfish) and they bring out alternatives.

3. You can get mocktails, but they have a zero-proof pairing which it's an absolute must get every time I go. I will drink wine, but there is no way I am getting through 7-10 glasses of wine (even if they are half pours). I was skeptical about why a zero-proof pairing could possibly be so expensive, but they aren't just throwing together some mixers and non alcoholic liquors. It's a great experience where they put as much thought into house made drinks as they do into the dishes they serve.

I hear you, Jodo98! Maybe for some exceedingly special occasion? As I wrote, it is a once-in-a-decade event for us. It is as good as it is rumored to be. We might go again for our fiftieth wedding anniversary.

I highly recommend doing that. We had the good fortune to be gifted a V&A dinner for our fiftieth by our children. For our fifty-fifth, we treated ourselves to dinner at Monsieur Paul, now a less expensive alternative (still $195 pp plus tax, gratuity, and extras) with a similar vibe, though fewer courses.

The last time we were at V&A was while our daughter was 9 & at space camp at Canaveral. She just turned 34! Looking forward to going back!

We did the chef's table last week. We hit the parks during the day and brought clothes with us to change into at the Floridian. I totally forgot to tell my DH that he should have brought a jacket. He didn't bring a tie either. We felt a bit underdressed and probably got lots of side eyes/judgy looks from everyone but they did serve us. At least we were mostly tucked away in the kitchen. whoops.

I got a call from the restaurant about a week before our reservation to discuss allergies and any celebrations. They adjusted our courses to accommodate our allergies - mostly removing the ingredient in our dishes instead of getting something totally different.

As someone said, zero proof (mocktail) pairings are an option. We both did the wine pairing and surprisingly we finished each glass before the next dish showed up (was not the case when we did wine pairings at Monsieur Paul and Napa Rose's chef's counter!). All wines were really good and enjoyed them all.

Many memorable dishes over the years. A morel mushroom pasta (I despise mushrooms, but this was honestly one of the best pasta dishes I've ever had), cauliflower panna cotta, ratatouille stuffed cannelloni, a sticky rice cake (part of another dish, but this particular bit was a standout), blueberry ice cream, every single bread, a leek and potato soup, bison, elk, duck breast, something with real fresh wasabi (not the hot spicy fake stuff) and for DH the various caviar options. I think we've eaten there 10-12 times, and each time, there is at least one dish that is memorable. And, no, never a super spicy dish. The fresh wasabi is the spiciest thing I can recall and it's wasn't really that hot.
