Woke up by 8 am Vegas time, jr couldn't rouse himself, so DH & I set forth to break the Casino and explore a bit, telling kiddo to call us when he was alive.
no luck on the slots, table game limits high even so early in the am although we did finally find a $10 table.
they were doing rennovations while we there & we just missed the IMAX show. DH & DS did get to do the motion simulator ride as to tomb adventure, said it was 'ok'. They were doing a big push for Chris Angel, building a new theater & exhibit area , Carrot Top also one of their draws.
Finally, jr appeared & we headed over to the Excalibur via the people mover. FYI, even though it's right next door, combine the oppressive heat w/the distance (see pic below...u can see Excalibur/blue spired bldg in the background from the street level of the Luxor We all agreed walking the strip is fatiguing...glad to see the moving sidewalks & monorails.
laughingly, the sun was so intense even this early in the am, most of the pics r squinting faces
I had mixed feelings as to the Excalibur, it seemed def more family friendly, yet seemed crammed with people miling about. The casino had a low ceiling & was very dark/dated, seemed depressing; the large arcade a floor below it was even worse...dirty & rundown, shame...could be appealing. The lunch buffet was excellent, so many offerings to choose from; reasonable pricing, great quality & nice decor.
we decided to head to NYNY to check it out, architectural details were impressive, both inside & out...another great casino, u felt as though u were strolling the streets of NYC (trees, building, etc.). MGM is across the street
notice roller coaster track, long line to ride, we skipped it....looked a bit too bumpy anyway
their arcade was much nicer, some fun themed photo ops
visited the Harley shop for the tshirt & up the strip to the M&M store & sony video arcade (of which neither was impressive). There is also one of the discount tix places for shows, some good deals on both shows & dinner there...next trip
Decided to explore MGM next, specifically for the lion habitat. Crowded, yet able to get up close with the cats. Glad to hear they don't live in the small space, rotate out in shifts.
you get to walk under the kitties
Next, onto the Mandalay Bay (this is where i want to stay next trip ), incredible poolscape & more upscale vibe, here we r taking a breather on bench outside HOB
took moving walkway back to Luxor, changed into our bathing suits & joined the beautiful people @ the pool...lots of hot bodies...assume the guys were thrilled. Cement deck so hot it burnt ur feet, booze flowed freely (malibu rum people were handing out shots). DH got me a frozen daquiri that i had to take back as it was mostly alcohol bartender laughed & said it was the 1st time anybody complained their drink was too strong lol
After a few hours we retreated to the cool of the hotel & took a nap. Then grabbed a quick dinner in coffeeshop overlooking casino floor. Jr decided he wanted to go back to room, lounge in the hot tub & watch the planes land. DH & I gambled a bit more, then joined him a couple hours later..had to pack up for 9 am flight to SNA...Disneyland
We'd be happy to return to the Luxor if we got a great deal again, i liked the casino, the overall south end of the strip seemed to be less crowded than the area around Planet Hollywood/Bellagio, easy access to airport & less traffic too .
