I was told my my TD bank that this was not yet in effect, that they were working on it. They said they had a pilot project, but it wasn't everywhere yet.Actually, if one is a account holder with RBC Royal Bank, Scotiabank, TD Canada Trust, the Mouvement Desjardins, the National Bank of Canada or ATB Financial, you can indeed use your Debit Card at many places in the United States in almost the same way you would use it at a cash register in Canada.
Most cashiers in the United States may not be aware of this feature. Simply be persistant and insist that the card is debit.
