Travel time from Destin to Orlando?

We'll be traveling in my parents' motorhome from east Texas to Orlando next month, and we're staying at FW once we get to WDW (or rather, my parents are; DH, our 2 DSs, and I will be at VWL). We'll probably stop the first night in Mobile, AL, and we would like to stay 2 nights on the beach before we head to WDW. We're looking at Destin right now, but I'm wondering how long it would realistically take to get from Destin to WDW. DH and I traveled by minivan last year from Mobile to WDW and it took about 9 hours (counting stops), but we realize we won't be able to move as fast in a motorhome.

Have any of you traveled this route with an RV? If so, how long did it take? (If it matters, we'll be arriving at WDW on a Saturday, so rush hour traffic won't be an issue.)

Is there another nice beach area further south that would get us closer to Orlando and still have camping?

Thanks for any advice!

Driving "regular" speed in a car, it takes 6 hours. So, if you give yourself 8 hours, that will be plenty of time! :goodvibes

Hey, we just did that in June, though went from Destin to FW. I'd say it took us a good 8 hours, including stops. We followed I-10 to I-75 to the FL turnpike, and got off on Rt 27 to 192, to avoid Orlando traffic. Was fairly easy, but seemed longer than I thought it should have been. Probably just impatient to get to FW!

BTW, Henderson Beach state park had the most beautiful campsites and facilities for $22 a night. Absolutely loved the place!

I make this trip 2-3 times a year. I have MH and pull a car behind. The car limits me to less than 65 MPH and it take me about 9-10 hours. The route I take is a lot of two lane highways but I do not mind that. From Destin go east on 98 to US 331 (10-15 miles). Go north on 331 to Fl 20. Rt on 20 for about 130 miles (about 10miles past Hosford) to Fl 267. Take a rt and go 30 miles to Newport and back on 98. Lt on 98 to Perry. Stay on 98 to Wildwood and Fl 44. Lt. on 44 to Leesburg and Us 27. So. no 27 to 192 and then to WDW. From Destin to WDW via Interstate adds about 50 miles because you have to go 25 miles north to get I 10 and somewhere you have to come back South that 25 miles. You could take Us 98 all the way but that too is out of the way and you have to mess with Panama City which lays on a e-w axis. You will get to see most of the town. That route (98) will take you near two Fl state parks over by Apalachicola. Henderson Sp is, as stated, a nice place. Fl state parks require res. Camping On the Gulf in Destin is nice and they have some waterfront lots. Have a good trime at WDW. We will be there at the end of Oct for a week. I know this is long, but if you need any more info let me know.

We go a different route, we go 98 to 331 and 331 to I 10, then I 10 to Hiway 19 (georiga florida hiway 19/27) all the the way to Ocala (4 lanes all the way) and then I 75 to Turnpike and I think 429 Westernway direct to Disney. We usually stop in Ocala and get up and leave about 8am and arrive 1 1/2 hrs later at Disney. Western Way is the new Tollway that goes direct to disney avoiding all the stops on 192 and you can see disney a few miles before you arrive.
