I will be staying at the Grand Floridian by myself. It’s been a few years since I’ve been there. What are the guidelines for tipping housekeeping now?

There are no guidelines, tipping housekeeping is fully at your discretion. Technically housekeeping is not a tipped position from a WDW hiring/wage perspective; however many in the US view tipping hotel housekeeping as appropriate custom. But like with any tipping topic, some don’t.

Personally I highly value housekeeping’s services and leave a cash tip daily to show my gratitude/appreciation. To me the fact that a job is or isn’t a tipped position from a wage/HR perspective isn’t really relevant in my personal consideration of the topic. Nothing beats coming back to a clean room that I didn’t have to do myself - and that deserves some $ from me, in my humble opinion.

Suggested amounts vary widely and you’ll get lots of opinions. :-)

Enjoy your Grand Floridian stay!

I usually time 3-4 per day sometimes more because my kids are slobs. I always tip at checkout because they never seem take the money just left on a table. A couple of times wife printed out these cute mousekeeping enelopes and they never took them so we just started leaving a lump sum after we checkout.

It would be easier if they just did it like cruises, at the end of your stay you just fill out what you want to tip on a form and charge my room.

We tend to tip $5/day and leave it daily (you may have different housekeepers during your stay). I always write a note that says “thank you” that I leave with the money so they know it’s for them. We really appreciate coming back to a made bed and new towels.

This might be a big faux pas but I have never tipped housekeeping at any hotel I've ever stayed at. Never even thought it was a thing until I started seeing posts like this on the boards. I do appreciate their work but since I hardly ever would interact with housekeeping staff in a general sense (we leave in the morning and come back to the room and never see housekeeping) I don't even know who the tip would even be going to. I feel like I'm a good tipper with valet, restaurants, baggage handlers etc. but I am interacting with these positions face to face and feels completely different to me than housekeeping. Would be curios if I'm the only one.

I used to tip and now I don't.
I probably haven't tipped housekeeping in 10 years.

I will say that we generally don't even get housekeeping, we are pretty clean and I don't like my stuff to be messed with. So we usually leave the room occupied sign on the door.
We always opted out of housekeeping when it was a thing and got the gift card.

Estimates are about 1/3 of US guests tip housekeeping. It’s hard to estimate but you can google it and that’s the general consensus.

It's a very personal decision. We usually tip $5/day. We build a small pillow mountain on the bed and place it there with a thank you note. At WDW there is sometimes a cute response (not always, so don't count on it). Last stay at WL we came home one evening to a room full of ballons and an autographed "Enjoy Your Stay" photo from Mickey.

As others have said, you don't necessarily have the same room housekeeper each day.

There are no guidelines and the vast majority do not. Not to sound crass, but do we tip the people who clean our rooms at hospitals or flight attendants who tidy up the cabins? What about the janitors cast members who are constantly cleaning the bathrooms at the theme parks.

I always tip housekeeping. If I see the housekeeper, I tip them. If not, I leave a larger sum at the end of the stay. It. Might not get to the right person, but it will make someone’s day. No one is doing that job for he love of the job.
