Wednesday 13th December
We were up at the usual time and I dropped DD off at school. DS has been off school for a few days as he has an upset stomach, is not eating and has been feeling sick. It transpires that this has been caused by anxiety about the up and coming trip. As he gets older his autism is making him more anxious about things and I will need to speak to our GP to help him before our next summer trip.
DS and I did some jobs and we also left Granny and Granddads presents at their house as they would be back from their holiday to the UK after we had gone. I got a call from our TA mid morning to tell me that Delta had decided our connection time of 1 hour 10 minutes was no longer valid and they had cancelled us off the 5pm flight and re booked us on the 7:40pm one. This was not good news as it meant we wouldnt get to our resort until at least 4am Irish time. Another thing was that the later flight was almost full and they could not get us seats together. I was really upset and phoned Helsbels a Dibber TA who works in Dublin for advice and she kindly checked the times and confirmed what out TA had said. I was starting to feel anxious about tomorrow but there was nothing I could do about it.
I collected DD from school at lunch time and they had given her a Christmas present and one to take home for her brother. DH took us to the station in his bus and we caught the 2:00 train up to Dublin. DS did some Sudoku and DD played with the Nintendo for at least 5 minutes before she was bored. She did some colouring for another 5 minutes and was bored again. I have a feeling it will be a long journey tomorrow . We eventually got to Dublin some 2 hours later and got a cab to the Clarion at the airport.
We checked in, dumped our bags and got the shuttle over to the airport for something to eat. DS had bacon and a few chips while DD had a cheeseburger from McDs. We got back to the room and went to watch some TV but it wasnt working. I phoned reception and they moved us to the room across the corridor.
I gave DD some Phenegrin and she went to sleep quickly. DS also had some as he was still feeling sick. I finally fell asleep and dreamt of spending days wandering round Atlanta airport trying to find our flight next flight

Thursday 14th December
We were awake at 7am and went down for breakfast. I had a full Irish and the kids had nothing - neither of them would eat anything. I managed to persuade DD to eat some toast but DS was feeling very anxious and wouldnt touch a thing. We got to the check in at 8:30 and as there was no one in line we were sent to the priority check in desk. There was a really nice lady there and when we explained our predicament with the changed connection she put priority tags on our bags so we could try and make the earlier flight. She said there were plenty of seats on the 5pm flight and to try and transfer onto it when we rechecked our bags at Atlanta. She also re allocated DHs seat next week into Premium class and let us go through the priority security line. I felt a bit better hoping that we might make the connection. We were down to the gate and through immigration just after 9am. DD was bored, bored, bored and then a bit tearful. I bought some undrinkable coffee and we waited. I gave DD and DS some Phenegrin. DS played with the Nintendo and I sent one last text to DH.
The plane took off at 11:45am and DD slept for the next 2½ hours. She then woke up and said she felt great and was hungry. I couldnt believe it as this is the first time that has ever happened (if youve ready my previous trippies youll know she is usually sick for the entire flight). She was great for the rest of the flight and even ate Ice-cream and some Pizza and has now decided she doesn't mind flying at all. DS meanwhile was getting agitated and still not eating anything although I got him to drink loads of water. The Phenigren stopped him being really sick but he still felt rough. His Nintendo ran out with 2 hours to go which made him even more agitated and the smell of the pizza made him sick.
It was a long 9 hour flight but we landed on time and our bags were off super quick. It looked like we would make the 5pm flight. We asked a pilot for directions and it turned out he captained our flight and was also the captain on the 5pm flight, he said wed easily make it so we were delighted. We got through customs and went up to the re-check in desk to get moved to the earlier flight. The girl on the desk said she couldnt move us as the 5pm flight was now full. I was gutted and DD burst into tears and was really upset, I felt like crying too. We handed back our luggage and went to find a food court. None of us really ate anything as we were too tired so we went to find our gate for the long wait for the next flight.
Wed been sent completely the wrong way and after a long walk and a trip on the train we were eventually at the right gate (or so we though.) We did as most others seemed to be doing and plugged the Nintendo into the nearest socket so DS could play and we could recharge it. After a couple of hours we realised they had changed the gate again so we moved to the new one, which was very busy. I spoke to a Delta rep who changed some seats around and put us together. We were now very very tired. We boarded at 7:20pm and the plane was full. We took off at 8pm and as it was only a 1 hour journey we landed at 9pm. DS was sick again and it had a knock on effect on DD who got sick at the same time. It was very iffy trying to manage two bags at once.
As they had priority tags, our bags were waiting for us by the time we got to the baggage claim and we walked to the ME desk. They had to re issue our tickets as they were for the Contemporary next week and we also decided to take our bags on with us rather than letting them be deleivered to our room as it was so late. It was fairly straight forward and we were on the bus by half 9. It went to Pop first then All Stars and finally AK. There were 5 people in front of us checking in but we only waited 10 minutes.
Wed been upgraded to a Savannah room over looking the Sunset Savannah. It was about as far from the lobby as possible and not a very good view. If we had paid for a Savannah view I would have been very disappointed but as it was a free upgrade I didnt mind. I bought some water and donuts before we went up to the room.
I dont know what it is about AK but I felt a bit disappointed with the resort and didnt feel happy about staying here. Hopefully its just tiredness from the long day and Ill feel better about it tomorrow.
We got the bunk bed room we requested and were in bed by 11:11pm (4am Irish time) The beds were super comfy but we were so tired that a bed of nails would have been a welcome resting place. Not surprisingly we all went straight to sleep.
