Three Things...Gratitude Thread

The Eiffel Tower. I love Paris, and I love the views from the top of the Tower.

Animal Kingdom Lodge- My favorite of all Disney resorts. We don't stay there often (pretty much priced out) but we go there at least once every trip to Disney, even if we aren't eating at Boma or Jiko. I find it peaceful and fulfilling to just sit in the lobby.

My sister's home. They lost about half of their home to Katrina, and it took years to rebuild. However, now it's lovely, they were able to put in all the accessibility modifications that she needs (that they couldn't have afforded without some of the insurance), and it's really lovely. I'd build and decorate her house for me, if I could. I am just thankful that she has a strong, secure, accessible home for her and her husband as they move towards the "Golden Years." I know she's safe.

Growing up in NY, I have so many choices. (Won’t even include WDW this time, although I love the castle so very much!)

Empire State Building: the art deco interior is fantastic and the building itself is iconic. But like many New Yorkers, I didn’t go to the top until I came back to visit as a “tourist”!

The main branch of the NYC Library with the lions in front. Still have my NYC library card. And I loved those lions, especially around Christmas when they had wreaths around their manes.

The Museum of Natural History: so many memories and just a beautiful building.

Honorable mention to al the buildings at the 1964-65 NY World’s Fair, which certainly contributed to my eventual love of WDW!

I’ve used back in the day three phones at the same time to get a Cinderella breakfast and yes it worked!! I have used those dining services that used to be free to find me a resv and yes they worked / and I’ve used stalking nonstop - very grateful I have a job where I can do such things!!! Seldom miss getting a ADR I want - am having some issues this year with a certain ADR that is proving to be impossible for me to get - but still grateful I can keep trying all day long !!!
I felt very lucky this year. Got everything I wanted, including Cinderella’s breakfast (haven’t been there since DD was young and figured now it’s my DGD’s turn). But my only problem was with Yak n Yeti. Could only get a late lunch and not a dinner time, even though the park will be open later that night. I heard that Y&Y doesn’t release many res’s to WDW and that becoming a Landry’s loyalty member is the way to go, but not sure I want to do that for one dinner. :)

Good Morning!

#1 - Star Wars Movies & Series - This year I watched everything Star Wars in timeline order, except the animated series). I had already seen Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi many years ago, but I never saw anything else. I’m really glad I took the time to watch everything. I can’t say that I would watch it again for myself, but I would, if my husband said that he would like to watch everything. I do know that I want a picture with the Mandalorian this year if he is out when we go to Walt Disney World.

#2 - Marvel Movies - this is my current movie undertaking. I’m watching all the Marvel movies in timeline order on Disney+. A few I had already seen, but was confused watching them, because I had not seen the other movies, and they do all tie in together. I’ve been really enjoying these movies and I would watch them again. There’s a couple of the newer movies that I’m not enjoying as much as others, but I’m glad I’m watching them.

#3 - The Lord of the Rings - this is going to be my next movie undertaking. These movies have been around a long time now, and I have never seen them, so they will be new to me. I’m thinking I will like them since I love Harry Potter and Chronicles and Narnia. I have to see where I need to stream them at - I should do that today. Hopefully I don’t have to subscribe to any new streaming services in order to watch him.

Songs - hard to believe it’s been 25 yrs but all time favorite whole CD Stings Brand New Day - rereleased for 25 yr anniversary ❤️❤️❤️ One of his best concerts ever with Tracy Chapman

Movies - I enjoy movies about people or comedy- recently watched Back to Black about Amy Winehouse awesome voice tragic life so sad - comedy I enjoy watching over and over America’s Sweethearts or Birdcage

Books - can’t get enough of Mr Stephen King - another book I’ve read several times and enjoy the movie is Midnight in the Garden of Good & Evil / Harry Potter / Kingdom Keepers - the whole series I’m currently reading them again third time right now

Books / Movies / Music so grateful for all three great entertainment and huge part of my life !!!

Songs - too many to count, but one of the things I loved during my Sirius years was hearing things I hadn't heard in a long time and rediscovering something I used to love. I eventually ditched Sirius, but not before spending several weeks using it to help build the most epic playlist on Spotify. When you put all of the hours of music together, it's something like 8 or 9 days of music.

Popular TV series - Through streaming services, we have been able to experience some of the shows that were super popular a decade or two ago and just never got a chance to fully watch in their heydays. Sopranos, Weeds, SATC, Dexter, etc. It's kind of funny to also see tech change with these shows. They're recent enough that they really don't feel old...until you see the kinds of phones they're using.

Harry Potter Books - I was late to finding the books. My parents read them right when each came out, but I think we were on the third movie by the time I decided to read the books. Back in 2022, while I was semi-bed ridden after surgical complications, I reread Goblet of Fire and Order of the Phoenix. It was really nice to revisit all of the rich details of the books that didn't make it into the movies.

Today's Topic (Tues, 10/8) - 3 new or newly rediscovered songs, movies, books, places, etc.

I've recently rediscovered the enjoyment of watching New Girl (sitcom) and Gilmore Girls. (That second one is @PollyannaMom 's fault!! 😉😂)

I watched the Top Gun sequel in the summer. Just the background music is so nostalgic. It reminds me how special cinema/ movie theater trips were back then. 🎬

And, I'm always rediscovering 80s/90s music I'd forgotten about. :music:

I love New Girl and Gilmore Girls. I kind of wished I'd watched Gilmore Girls when my girls were home. We've all watched it in reruns, but not together 🤣

When my honorary niece discovered Harry Potter, and I got to geek out all over again with a new generation. 📚

During the Covid Lockdown, I rewatched The Waltons. Partly it was just a comfort show, but also a lot of what they were dealing with felt timely again, and kind of gave me hope that we'd manage as gracefully.

I've been going through some storage boxes, and I'm always grateful when I rediscover old photos!

I have been enjoying the prequel, The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power airing on Prime. :thumbsup2

My DH and I are re-experiencing the XFiles right now, but only the stand-alone episodes. (He refuses to watch any of the myth arc episodes, which I understand)

Relatively new show for us is Bluey, which we would never be watching if not for our DGD. Major fans!! We also get to re-experience Disney/Pixar movies when she sees them on the Disney menu and asks for them. Looking forward to all the holiday films!

Reading Stephen King’s new book of short stories and when I am done with that, I have Sharon Draper’s 3rd book in the Melody trilogy, Out of My Dreams, lined up and ready to go. The first book that was made into a movie, Out of My Mind, is premiering on Disney+ on 11/22 and I can’t wait to see it!

Good Wednesday Morning!

#1 - 90s Degree Days - I love super hot weather, and I am always very grateful for it, especially on days that I’m home and I can use the pool. I know I’m a bit unusual with this, because most people do not like super hot weather and avoid it as much as possible.

#2 - Working Out - I am so grateful that I have the love and desire to work out. When I tell people how much I enjoy it, so many people say how much they hate it, how much they wish they could like it. I’ve been faithfully working out for over 25 years - it’s a part of my life and I can’t imagine not doing it.

#3 - Meal Planning - I really enjoy meal planning every single week and am grateful I’ve disciplined myself to do this - it’s very rare when I don’t know what’s for dinner. When I talk about meal planning with others, I get very similar reactions to when I say I like to work out. I explain to them how I meal plan to make it easier for them, but most people have no desire to do it. I’m just a big planner and always like to know what’s going on.

My beef very rare !!!

My house looking show ready at all times

The honest truth - straight forward answers no beating around the bush / no candy coating etc - I have been dressed down on several occasions for being too honest (?) really ??? I have been told more or less I need to lie not going to happen / learn to handle and accept the truth and tell it - the World would be a better place for it !!

Driving - while I'm still a bit road weary from the weekend, I enjoy driving. It helps me clear my mind and feel like I'm getting control of things. Good music also helps!

Trip Planning - While I see a lot of other planning lovers on sites like this, in my day to day life, I see a lot of people that hate dealing with the nuts and bolts of travel. The parents of DDs friend asked to sit down with me a couple of weeks ago to pick my brain for some last minute Disney travel tips, my brother called me yesterday to try and help him plan a last minute trip for later on this week since the Milton upended their plans to go to Marco Island, another friend usually taps me to hunt for her airfare to places like Vegas and the Caribbean...and so on and so forth. To me, it's a game. I've had friends leave me in charge of their Disney ADRs simply because I enjoy the stalking game that goes into snagging the hard to get spots and times and don't mind being up before dawn to hop on them as soon as they open.

Baking from Scratch - Some people seem to fear it because it's too much measuring and others just feel it's too much of a chore. I prefer it because it allows greater room for creativity, it's really not that much more time consuming once you know what you need, and it tastes so much better. It's gotten to the point that I can't eat cakes from a box mix (even if they've been jazzed up) because the box mixes (especially non-chocolate flavors) have a really strong taste of preservatives in the final baked product. So, we're all about baking from scratch.
