The Widow & the Spinster Take a Bougie WBTA Cruise That Didn't Suck! - A Birthday Dinner of Complete and Utter Disappointment 1/16

I love this outfit!
I wish I got to wear it more often!
I actually had a couple of these for lunch today, leftover from supper last night! Homemade ones, so they were very good...I prefer mine boiled with loads of melted butter, that's how my grandma would prepare and serve hers
Nice, sounds delicious!
What the actual...why on earth would she say this....seriously lady
I know! Right? :confused3
Mmmm spätzle! Would entice me to possibly order this dish
Too bad it needed sauce.
You look so happy here :lovestruc
I know i can't believe the photographer captured that!
Love this one of you 3 as well!!
Yes! Me too!
Hmm I feel like these look like different chicken fingers...
Well she said they were the European version. We had stocked up in Southampton, at least the food part. Not booze.
 (sorry couldn't help but laugh at this!)
It burned my bum!
M got this too, a nice touch!
I guess I will miss getting one by one day.
Bring on dinner whoop whoop!!
It's next!

I love formal night for the free drinks!
Yes! Free drinks are awesome!
My husband and I went on a 7 night sailing on the Fantasy for our 15th anniversary, and on formal night we loved this particular pink drink, but there was only 1 on each tray. We just kept milling around until another server came by with a pink one to grab. We definitely hung around the lobby a lot longer on that night than any other, ha!
I lucked out because each tray had two glasses if wine which is generally my beverage of choice.
So pretty! I love the fringe on your dress!
Thanks! I love that dress. I have pictures from wearing it on Formal night on the Wonder back in to 90s.
Time in the spa and rainforest room sounds absolutely lovely. But I would be very annoyed by people monopolizing the loungers! At least you got to use the hot tub for a bit, too, while you had to wait.

Well in all honesty the proper order is hot tub first, loungers second.

If i eat a Lunch/Dinner sausage like a bratwurst or those Nuremberg sausages, then yes i was something to dip it in like mustard. But breakfast sausage to me, needs nothing to dip it in. However some people like to dip their breakfast sausage in maple syrup. 🤢
I've never dipped sausage in maple syrup... but I have purchased maple syrup flavoured breakfast sausage.
Holy cow were they good.

Still won't dip in maple syrup, though.
I couldn't lift my leg up to that pedestal to try. 😂
So... You're saying next cruise you're bringing a step-ladder.
I know you'd think I was absolutely smitten with Goofy.
::yes::
Does your therapist know you see animals in food?
My therapist was the one who pointed it out.
But it's free on the cruise...
::yes::

We got dressed up for Remy and soon it was time to take a few pictures. Jill thought I should take a picture in the throne wearing my fireworks dress.

335a96be-7443-4bdd-952c-df4bb08af72a.jpg

The photopass photographers were not back at their stations, but we snagged one as she was going back to her spot and she was happy to snap a quick picture of us in front of the Donald statue.

7a14eb1d-a3e0-4ad0-aa9e-9cf918dc4331.jpg

Then we went up to Deck 12 and checked in for Remy. We were seated at our table, and Candido was our server again. He made us the signature drink, The Collette.

78e886ad-b4d2-46c0-82aa-5b4964de4709.jpg

They were prepared to make quite a few this evening.

447b78c7-860d-4bd8-b6a3-d2a632c7d8ca.jpg

Then we were served these “little bites” as I guess as an Amuse Bouche. I should taken this as an omen for the evening. One was made from Cauliflower and the other was made from Chickpeas. Neither one are something I like. Jill thinks the white one was all cheese, but if it had been, it wouldn't have tasted so icky to me. However in hindsight. I should have eaten the chickpea one first because I could barely get that down without gagging.

Here is a copy of the menu.

1bb78cc9-7018-4055-954d-4a79424ff28d.jpg

Jill went with the Saveur menu which was the French Menu. I went with the Goût which was the American Menu. The only thing was that I did not want the King Salmon which was the first course, they said that I could substitute the Tomate from the French menu.

This was the actual Amuse Bouche. It was some kind of Macadamia Nut soup. It was OK, but another sign, I'm not a big fan of nuts.

5c2bdfe9-25e1-4b08-9861-bf187300ff4d.jpg

Because we were both having the same first course, we were both served the same first wine.

19f591b9-aef4-44d9-9aa2-d38522594254.jpg

The course Tomate came as a total surprise to us. There were four plates involved. The first one was kind of a tomato tart, very different from the one I had the other night. Also way more tomato flavor, and not in a good way. I think i gave this two bites.

8da9d26a-0745-4b56-b0fc-1d3955eeaa0c.jpg

The next had two sort of tomato mousse things. I took one taste and that was enough.

91f76df1-709b-443e-9c26-ae2a67adc60f.jpg

The last two plates involved a cylinder that they called foccacia. It was to be dipped into the other plate which had some kind of tomatoey broth. I think i gave this two bites before giving up.

0534287d-d59c-415e-a6c9-bf38e445019e.jpg

What I didn't show here, was this tomato and green pepper infused water they served with the course. It was the least disgusting thing there so as not to be rude, I drank both mine and Jill's. Our server took this as a sign that we liked it, when in actuality it was the only thing on the table that was even palatable to me.

We were served sourdough bread and three types of butter.

eb914524-1104-493f-812f-133f56c9d118.jpg

The three types of butter were seaweed butter, regular butter, and red pepper butter.

Next we were served wine for our second course.

70cb923b-343a-4549-9d2f-8708c94ec881.jpg

My second course was the toothfish. I can't remember what he said gave it this crispy topping. He said that it was very similar to a Sea Bass. This was by FAR the best savory course I was served of the night (besides the cheese). It was very tasty, well cooked, and had I been smarter I would have eaten the whole thing, but I didn't want to get too full too fast. I had wagyu beef coming.

a0ff8839-d986-4467-b684-0b118c1e58c7.jpg

Jill had Langoustines, which are kind of like a cross between lobster and shrimps. This was probably her best savory course as well.

3f802f52-d686-4c28-8c56-14a370f5be05.jpg

She was having seafood, while I was having lamb, so hers was the Pinot Blanc while I was having the Nuits-Saints-George (which was a red).

366f5500-e64a-406e-ad5e-32e57d69aba6.jpg

Here's where everything started to go south (if it hadn't already been careening off the rails). I know the picture is blurry, but my lamb, which looks perfectly cooked had an odd flavor to it. Not like it was rotten, but like it had a rub on it. The word “curry” kept being passed around by the waiter, and I believe there was some sort of curried spice on the lamb. Not very American or French. I think I ate two of the three pieces of lamb, but I was not savoring and enjoying them.

559454b4-557d-4965-93bb-9234535f94b7.jpg

Jill was served a pollack, and the word curry was also “bounced around” when talking about it. Jill has issues with food texture and mushy food is not something she could deal with. She said this was mushy and super gross, plus she didn't like the curry sauces.

Our plates went back not even close to cleaned.

Then we were served the wines for our last savory course. I was served the Silver Oak.

7fea8402-5f4e-424f-81d3-3b4ecb9e5fc6.jpg

I really tried to like this one too, I even ate a bite of the side dish on the right with the rice and such, but none of it was good! How do you screw up wagyu beef? It wasn't Japanese A5, but it was American. Again there was that curry sort of flavor. When I was child my mom made a dish called Curry Chicken. I hated the smell when it was cooking. I never ate it and always managed to score an invite to dinner at a friend's house everytime she made it. This taste reminded me of that.

7dcc936e-ad84-4b46-bed5-8102f1bce56b.jpg

Jill was served some kind of chicken. It was dry, tough, and lacking flavor. Which was a surprise to me, because about 10 years ago, I had the best chicken I'd ever tasted on the Dream. At Brunch they served a sous vide chicken that was to die for. This was obviously a far cry from that.

279b9b57-c1a1-43cd-97ea-d58c171091ff.jpg

When our server offered us a cheese course we were happy to have something we knew we would like.

Our Sommelier brought a selection of port wine for me to choose from.

7bbd437c-f487-49d3-aa89-8a976d2d67c2.jpg

I chose something nicely aged, but that wouldn't set me back a couple months of rental income.

be90ad7e-f3ec-42bb-87fe-360565992dd7.jpg

They brought out this egg, and we were confused.

fa7f03d3-764d-44d9-9a48-2e5134858d37.jpg

They showed us the inside, and then took it away.

44a1b894-14d7-46f2-bdef-ecdabe6b2aab.jpg

Then they brought our dessert wines, and our desserts which were fantastic. I don’t remember what they were. But on the menu mine says “Chocolate” and Jill’s said “Opaline Fraise”. Not much clue as to what that says about the actual stuff on the plate!

Then we got this little slice of heaven.

9a38e82d-e7ec-4805-a8ee-590e1dc7a5cc.jpg

And I guess this was a sorbet for the end of the meal? It wasn’t in my notes, but the picture is clearly there.

07b61319-d9a0-40df-87f4-7cf09aea7ecf.jpg

And these petit fours.

15b6a68a-240b-458e-83fd-139418fc3467.jpg

We were so exhausted that we had them pack up the petit fours and went back to the room, where we found this towel animal.

My stats for the day.

Yeah, doesn't sound good to me at all.
Don't knock it until you've tried it. ;)
Jill thought I should take a picture in the throne wearing my fireworks dress.
Jill was right!
she was happy to snap a quick picture of us in front of the Donald statue.
You both look terrific. :)
He made us the signature drink, The Collette.
I looked it up. Sounds good!
Then we were served these “little bites” as I guess as an Amuse Bouche. I should taken this as an omen for the evening. One was made from Cauliflower and the other was made from Chickpeas.

That's different. Never heard of a nut soup, let alone macadamia.

Yikes. Not exactly high praise.

Jill was served a pollack
Really? I don't think I'd be too happy with pollock. I equate that to a cheap fish.
I could be wrong, I suppose.
How do you screw up wagyu beef?
By not serving real wagyu beef?
Very disappointing.
Again there was that curry sort of flavor. When I was child my mom made a dish called Curry Chicken. I hated the smell when it was cooking. I never ate it and always managed to score an invite to dinner at a friend's house everytime she made it. This taste reminded me of that.

So yummy and named after the female chef in Ratatouille!
Then we were served these “little bites” as I guess as an Amuse Bouche. I should taken this as an omen for the evening.
My PTSD just kicked in.

The entire table was covered in plates of tomatoes! The pie tasted like unseasoned tomato paste.
What I didn't show here, was this tomato and green pepper infused water they served with the course. It was the least disgusting thing there so as not to be rude, I drank both mine and Jill's. Our server took this as a sign that we liked it, when in actuality it was the only thing on the table that was even palatable to me.
I hate green pepper and almost gagged when I tasted it.

Jill was served a pollack, and the word curry was also “bounced around” when talking about it. Jill has issues with food texture and mushy food is not something she could deal with. She said this was mushy and super gross, plus she didn't like the curry sauces.

I cannot tell you how mushy and gross this was. I believe there was aspic involved as well. I took one bite and excused myself to the ladies room. I really thought I was going to 🤮 .

This was just a weird dry texture and awful. The server tried to get me something else but it would have been the things Alison had and they were terrible too! I just plead a small appetite and said it wasn't to my taste.
When our server offered us a cheese course we were happy to have something we knew we would like.

33f9ce4f-1219-4dfd-9e6f-9d179551ffc1.jpg

The cheese was amazing!
They showed us the inside, and then took it away.

44a1b894-14d7-46f2-bdef-ecdabe6b2aab.jpg
The desserts were amazing! Not a hint of curry to be found!

I have eaten at Remy several times before on the Dream and the Fantasy and totally enjoyed my meals. The chef on the Dream on this trip was just not good. I was so disappointed with as much money as we spent and as much as we looked forward to this experience.

Jill in CO

Finding this dress was just the best, most Disney magical day!!
Yay! I love you in this dress so much, the day we got it, ahhhh brings back all the feels for me :lovestruc
Also way more tomato flavor, and not in a good way. I think i gave this two bites.

8da9d26a-0745-4b56-b0fc-1d3955eeaa0c.jpg
This looks like tomato paste in like a pie with ketchup on the side? Weird and that's a no thanks from me
This is a nope for me as well, does not look like my thing
Ok, this one I might be ok with,, looks like kinda pastry
The three types of butter were seaweed butter, regular butter, and red pepper butter.

20f228d4-4b40-42eb-a575-0cde3e68da67.jpg
These are pretty butter pats, were they ok?
This was by FAR the best savory course I was served of the night
Glad something was decent

She said this was mushy and super gross, plus she didn't like the curry sauces.
Somehow I deleted the photo, but this did not look good at all, I don't like mushy things much, especially protein/meat related things, uggg
This cut looks strange in the middle, like raw, I guess it can look like that
When our server offered us a cheese course we were happy to have something we knew we would like.
Thank goodness for the cheese!
They showed us the inside, and then took it away.

44a1b894-14d7-46f2-bdef-ecdabe6b2aab.jpg
This is confusing- why did they show?
Then they brought our dessert wines, and our desserts which were fantastic.
Yay I'm glad for that, hard to mess that up though
And these petit fours.

15b6a68a-240b-458e-83fd-139418fc3467.jpg
I'm actually not an OCD person, but I wish they were in straight lines lol...

I'm sorry this was such a disappointment :(

Well, I thought I quoted other things, but where the heck did they go, I don't know!? In any case, I grabbed this pic to say, I am also vintage 1982! LOL :rotfl2:

Such a bummer that this meal wasn't as enjoyable as it could have been. The descriptions sounded lovely, but sounds like the courses themselves were pretty disappointing overall.

You both look terrific. :)
Thanks!
I looked it up. Sounds good!
It's very tasty!
Ummm... Yeah, they don't sound very good at all.
Nope. Not at all.
I looked at both menus (and of course the following pictures)... and I'm not sure which I'd choose. The American menu is more familiar, but the French one seems more adventurous. Given what you know now, would you have switched?

I should get over and read her TR
I do know what they are, but have never had them.
I'm not sure I have, but Jill has had them several times when I have dined with her.
Yeah... I think the train left the station a long time ago.

Very disappointing.
:sad2:
I mean... it's fairly easy to overcook chicken... but in a fine restaurant, that shouldn't happen.
Nope it shouldn't happen.
Please tell me that was good at least.
Probably the best course of the night so far.
Wait... so... "Here's your present... and you can't have it."
What was the point of that??? :confused3
I know. It just seemed odd. I know it said "Happy Birthday" in French but I still didn't get it.
A little redemption. Should've just had the fish, cheese (I presume), and dessert.
Yeah, but everything was supposed to be good.
Reminds me of a Venetian mask. :)
I was thinking of something different. But now i can put my finger on it.

With what I know now? I would have canceled the dinner!
I'm not sure I have, but Jill has had them several times when I have dined with her.
Really! I’ve never even seen them on a menu.
And we decided looking at the pictures it was in aspic. 🤮
Ew.
I know. It just seemed odd. I know it said "Happy Birthday" in French but I still didn't get it.
Bizarre. And almost rude.
Yeah, but everything was supposed to be good.
True.
I was thinking of something different. But now i can put my finger on it.
@Steppesister had similar and she thought it was Davy Jones.
