Yeah, doesn't sound good to me at all.
Don't knock it until you've tried it.
Jill thought I should take a picture in the throne wearing my fireworks dress.
Jill was right!
she was happy to snap a quick picture of us in front of the Donald statue.
You both look terrific.
He made us the signature drink, The Collette.
I looked it up. Sounds good!
Then we were served these “little bites” as I guess as an Amuse Bouche. I should taken this as an omen for the evening. One was made from Cauliflower and the other was made from Chickpeas.
Ummm... Yeah, they don't sound very good at all.
However in hindsight. I should have eaten the chickpea one first because I could barely get that down without gagging.
Jill went with the Saveur menu which was the French Menu. I went with the Goût which was the American Menu.
I looked at both menus (and of course the following pictures)... and I'm not sure which I'd choose. The American menu is more familiar, but the French one seems more adventurous. Given what you know now, would you have switched?
It was some kind of Macadamia Nut soup. It was OK, but another sign, I'm not a big fan of nuts.
That's different. Never heard of a nut soup, let alone macadamia.
The first one was kind of a tomato tart, very different from the one I had the other night. Also way more tomato flavor, and not in a good way. I think i gave this two bites.
Yikes. Not exactly high praise.
The next had two sort of tomato mousse things. I took one taste and that was enough.
he last two plates involved a cylinder that they called foccacia. It was to be dipped into the other plate which had some kind of tomatoey broth. I think i gave this two bites before giving up.
Too bad. It sounds really interesting.
What I didn't show here, was this tomato and green pepper infused water they served with the course. It was the least disgusting thing there so as not to be rude, I drank both mine and Jill's.
Geez. You're not exactly off to a roaring start.
We were served sourdough bread and three types of butter.
At least
that sounded good!
My second course was the toothfish. I can't remember what he said gave it this crispy topping. He said that it was very similar to a Sea Bass. This was by FAR the best savory course I was served of the night (besides the cheese). It was very tasty, well cooked
Thank goodness. Finally!
and had I been smarter I would have eaten the whole thing, but I didn't want to get too full too fast. I had wagyu beef coming.
Uh, oh... and after having read
@Steppesister 's last update, I had a feeling I knew what was coming.
Jill had Langoustines, which are kind of like a cross between lobster and shrimps. This was probably her best savory course as well.
I do know what they are, but have never had them.
Here's where everything started to go south (if it hadn't already been careening off the rails).
Yeah... I think the train left the station a long time ago.
I think I ate two of the three pieces of lamb, but I was not savoring and enjoying them.
Not okay.
Jill was served a pollack
Really? I don't think I'd be too happy with pollock. I equate that to a cheap fish.
I could be wrong, I suppose.
How do you screw up wagyu beef?
By not serving real wagyu beef?
Very disappointing.
Again there was that curry sort of flavor. When I was child my mom made a dish called Curry Chicken. I hated the smell when it was cooking. I never ate it and always managed to score an invite to dinner at a friend's house everytime she made it. This taste reminded me of that.
Jill was served some kind of chicken. It was dry, tough, and lacking flavor.
I mean... it's fairly easy to overcook chicken... but in a fine restaurant, that shouldn't happen.
When our server offered us a cheese course we were happy to have something we knew we would like.
Please tell me that was good at least.
They brought out this egg, and we were confused.
They showed us the inside, and then took it away.
Wait... so... "Here's your present... and you can't have it."
What was the point of that???
Then they brought our dessert wines, and our desserts which were fantastic.
A little redemption. Should've just had the fish, cheese (I presume), and dessert.
we found this towel animal.
Reminds me of a Venetian mask.
