The ABCs of a Very Merry Christmastime Land and Sea Adventure-B is for: Being Jolly at a Jingle Bell BAM! (Jollywood Night!) 1/1

Last edited:
It was already past it's bedtime during our tour so we quietly tiptoed by so as not disturb the sleepyhead.
I would NOT want to wake that one up!
As passenger I can only plead the fifth.
 :lmao:
Unbeknownst to Liesa, I helped myself to a Christmas treat while loitering on Sunset...a yummy but could have benefited from some thawing, coquito cupcake.
20241211_175853.jpg
Well, now! How coquette-ish!
Enjoyed the tower projections while nibbling on my treat--looked unsuccessfully for Liesa's head popping out of those elevator doors.

20241211_180505.jpg
That silly faulty elevator! Stupid doors keep opening and closing at the weirdest times!
Can never have too many holiday vibes...
Correct. And DHS does not disappoint.
If I recall, Gertie met a crumbly demise...
OH isn't that cute!!!

When my dad had the stroke, I had to amend the pick up date, but then it all worked out that we’d keep our Jollywood Night, so I got it changed back again to our original pick up- after our lunch at Summerhouse.
A lot of moving parts after a very trying time. Not easy.
Budget was SO nice about all the changes and were completely understanding.
I'm glad to hear that. You certainly had enough sadness and stress recently.
They were equally efficient and nice when we picked up the car just a couple miles away from The Springs.
Did you Uber over? Or did they pick you up? I'm guessing you didn't walk.
This would be #2 of the All Stars Trifecta for me.
You mention ASMu after the cruise. Did you mean that was the other one? Or had you stayed at one before?
(The rooms may be boring, but the outdoor theming with hardscaping is still pretty cool!)
And yet... I just can't get into the whole sports theme at Disney. It just doesn't jibe with my thoughts and feelings about Disney, whereas the other two All Stars do.
Literally the only thing that was remotely themed to anything having to do with sports was the mural behind the murphy bed. So sad to see the rooms so bland in terms of theming.
That's unfortunate. But... I suppose it is a value. If you want better themeing, you're gonna have to pony up for it.
a legit bathtub
:thumbsup2
Glad they didn't take those away too.
*Mini rant*: I really hate that the bath products are halfway up the wall. If you want a bath, you’ve got to stand up to get your gel- not a fan! Luckily, they still provide a bar of soap, and you can use that without interrupting a luxurious soak. *Rant over*
I've never really thought about it being high, but... I hate those body washes. I've occasionally been known to bring a bar of soap along with me, just for those times.
Cute. :)
what would be a very chilly evening.
Define "chilly"...
And let’s face it… not many of us like to stand around in the cold for a bus after a few hours of walking around a Disney Park.
Point of order... Not many of us like to stand around for a bus!
I can neither confirm nor deny that we’d breezed through the DHS parking lot earlier when we picked up the car due to a navigational error.
:lmao:
Cute cover. :)
Okay, first impressions: This is THE premier park for all things Disney Christmas.
Really! Huh! Would've picked MK, but haven't seen DHS party.
The background music is magical at dispelling any bah-humbug and it’s hard not to be-bop a bit as you make your way up Sunset or Hollywood Blvd.
I'm glad it helped you get in a better mood after recent events.
Hmmm... I see one hat, one scarf, but no gloves yet...
I think we did fairly well at getting almost everything we’d wanted to done.
That's about all you can ask for. :)
it was closer to 20 minutes,
Interesting. Usually if it says 13 minutes, that means no (or little) wait. Then again, 20 is pretty short for TOT.
(I'd never noticed this tea trolley!)
I have. :) I love this area.
“What's This? Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas Sing-Along at the Hyperion Theater” at 7:30.
That sounds like fun!
Pretty. :)
While making our way over to the Echo Lake area we made sure to visit the "creepy dolls".
Why "creepy"??
In actuality, I remember these very well from my own childhood. My great aunts and Grandparents had these up in their homes during the holidays, along with plenty of tree tinsel, and they were always in the window displays in Glendale and Pasadena.
Nice bit of childhood nostalgia there for you. :)
And a cute little reindeer for good measure!
Meh. No red nose. Just your average run of the mill reindeer.
Oh! Gertie actually has the ball just like the pamphlet cover!
(We weren't exactly sure what Gertie was smoking, but it must've been good... yah, mahn)
Spicy Korean Chicken Funnel Cake
What an interesting concept. I'd be tempted to try that too, except...
Meh… it was okay.
...except for that. Well, shoot.
As with 95% of Disney “cocktails”, 1) It was miniscule for the exorbitant price and
Classic Disney. :rolleyes2
They wave the bottle of spirit over the drink mimicking Tink with her wand hoping that a dribble left on the side of it will somehow make its way into the cup so they can say it “contains alcohol”.
such a COLD evening!
Define "COLD"
The empanadas were really small (about half the size of the ones at La Choza in Mexico, if you’re familiar with that) which was a bit disappointing.
So skip them here and head to Epcot. Copy that.
They also look a little overdone?
What’s This? Such a fun show!
Good to know! I don't know if I'll ever do this, but I'll remember that if I do.
How big was this??
Disney always seems to knock it out of the park(s) with their productions and this one didn’t disappoint!
They really do an amazing job, don't they? :)
I LOVED seeing Miss Piggy in all of her glorious vanity
Sounds like a lot of fun. :)
Best yet, the show uses a LIVE BAND!!
Really! That's a rarity!
In the ride's exit courtyard, a special ‘30’s-style party is all set up complete with a live Jazz Band and costumed dancers who mix and mingle with the crowd encouraging everyone to join in the fun on the dancefloor.
I love the sound of this.
This was so reminiscent of the OG Streetmosphere that the misguided decision-makers of DHS did away with. Shame on them.
Agreed. An absolute tragedy. They were one of... if not the best thing about DHS. I always made sure to watch them and have fond memories of them interacting with my kids.
It’d be tough to maintain an outdoor ice rink in the middle of Florida,
It's Disney. They could've done it if they really wanted! :snooty:

 (Disney announces four figure increase to Jollywood ticket price. In an unrelated comment, Disney announces they will have a permanent outdoor ice rink with real ice.)
By now, I’d put on my gloves and hat
Ah ha! There go the gloves and hat...
There was only a 15 or so minute wait which wasn’t bad at all.
Not bad at all for that ride. I don't think (in the two? times I've ridden it) that I've waited less than half an hour.
This ride has really grown on me, and yet…
And yet?
And with that, nothing could stop us now… from heading home;
 You thrill seekers, you!
our 6:00AM alarm the next morning would feel gross.
Yeah, okay. That's a good excuse.
I’d been up all night the day before, so this was going on 48 hours of no sleep for me;
 And that's an even better excuse! :faint:
I was tired to say the least.
You don't say!
Thrice as I remember? Once with Caroline, and her sister, once with my daughter, Mikki and once with another friend at some point.
You've got me beat by two. :)

This is THE premier park for all things Disney Christmas. Seriously, the glitz, the neon, the tinsel, the retro-y goodness that is splashed all over the park is nothing short of perfection. The background music is magical at dispelling any bah-humbug and it’s hard not to be-bop a bit as you make your way up Sunset or Hollywood Blvd.
I've heard good things about the Jollywood party. It looks like a lot of fun.
we made our way to the Hyperion Theater for the first showing of What’s This? Such a fun show!
It looks like a cute show.
Our next stop was at the Theater of the Stars (where Beauty and the Beast is) for the showing of Holidays in Hollywood featuring Miss Piggy, Kermit, and a really, really talented Broadway cast.
It is nice to see Disney bringing back some good entertainment to HS. Now they just need to do it for everyday guests to enjoy.
Moving on, it was time to see the “Ice” Skating show.
I can see why this was a crowded show.

The entire evening looks like fun. :) I think I need to look into it for next Christmas

Unbeknownst to Liesa, I helped myself to a Christmas treat while loitering on Sunset.
Lies! She said you hadn't eaten yet. You is sneaky!
but could have benefited from some thawing
Was it supposed to be partially frozen? Or they just... didn't?
looked unsuccessfully for Liesa's head popping out of those elevator doors.
I zoomed in for you, there she is!

Aren't there some old fashioned candies that look like that? Looks familiar... 🤔
Like this! But suspect it didn't taste amazing.
So... which list were you on? Hmmmmm????

Was it supposed to be partially frozen? Or they just... didn't?
The cupcakes are kept in freezers---the flavors would have come through more if the cupcake had a chance to thaw on the counter for 30 mins. Logistically convenient for a mass CS output machine but a negative for the consumer of said cupcake.
which list were you on? Hmmmmm????
Check those peepers...definitely on the Nice list :magnify: I am sure Mickey even checked it twice
I zoomed in for you, there she is!
Now I guess I should have checked my peepers :rotfl2:

Aren't there some old fashioned candies that look like that?
I imagine you are thinking of those nougat-like candies packaged in clear wrapping with holly like designs? That I can picture a resemblance too...
Like this! But suspect it didn't taste amazing.
No...Gertie wins points for looks but not the most delicious cookie. When I pulled her out for breakfast she was in multiple pieces so I only actually ate her head and her tail. The rest of her...well...it went extinct.

Logistically... they should've had them thawed. It's not like they didn't know when the party started.

Who am I to go against a rodent?
I imagine you are thinking of those nougat-like candies packaged in clear wrapping with holly like designs? That I can picture a resemblance too...
Hmmm... maybe? I was thinking hard candies, but maybe???
No...Gertie wins points for looks but not the most delicious cookie. When I pulled her out for breakfast she was in multiple pieces so I only actually ate her head and her tail. The rest of her...well...it went extinct.
Leaving nothing but oil.

Wasn't a special event exclusive....so wouldn't leave them out during Florida days (even though that night was a chilly one)
Hmm... So maybe they ran out/low and had to rush some out for sale a bit too early?

So maybe they ran out/low and had to rush some out for sale a bit too early?
A lot of the cupcake desserts are stored in fridges at the various CS places...its just a standard practice. I am usually getting for the next day's breakfast so can thaw them on my own. This was just an in park instance where not really an option at the time...still tasty, just could have been even better. My last word on cupcakes....

Budget was SO nice about all the changes and were completely understanding. They were equally efficient and nice when we picked up the car just a couple miles away from The Springs. It was incredibly convenient and if needed, I’d rent this way again in a heartbeat!
Sounds like a great experience. Maybe something for us to consider. How did you get to the rental place?

Okay, first impressions: This is THE premier park for all things Disney Christmas.
Wow sounds awesome!

The Hotel was all lit up in its holiday finery and the stars lining Sunset brought a magical, festive atmosphere to the area.
Hmm not sure if I buy the Hollywood Hotel lit up in festive lights 🤔

Spicy Korean Chicken Funnel Cake: Spicy fried Korean chicken with a pickled slaw served on a mini funnel cake for like $7 or something? Meh… it was okay.
Yeah that doesn't sound very appetizing. However, as an Aussie, I'm not familiar with funnel cake, so maybe it's different to what I'm picturing.

As with 95% of Disney “cocktails”, 1) It was miniscule for the exorbitant price and 2) They wave the bottle of spirit over the drink mimicking Tink with her wand hoping that a dribble left on the side of it will somehow make its way into the cup so they can say it “contains alcohol”.
Ben and I noticed that when we were checking out some YouTube videos from FARTS. No doubt I will still be tempted.

Chicken Empanadas with Street Corn: Chicken empanadas served with a side of street corn salad topped with chili peppers, lime, and cotija cheese.
Now that sounds delicious!

I really loved this production especially the giant Jack puppet and stage set.
It looks like a really interesting production. I'd love to see it (or something like it) one day!

Holidays in Hollywood featuring Miss Piggy, Kermit, and a really, really talented Broadway cast.
That. Sounds. Awesome.

In the ride's exit courtyard, a special ‘30’s-style party is all set up complete with a live Jazz Band and costumed dancers who mix and mingle with the crowd encouraging everyone to join in the fun on the dancefloor.
As does that!

Moving on, it was time to see the “Ice” Skating show.
I love ice-skating, and I love Disney characters, and I love shows, but somehow ice-skating shows always seem a bit meh.

Our last show, of course, was Jingle Bell, Jingle Bam!- the projection and firework show for this party. It has a cute storyline of the elves rescuing Santa from Mr. Oogie just in time for Christmas.
Sounds like fun too!

And with that, nothing could stop us now… from heading home; our 6:00AM alarm the next morning would feel gross.
I'm very impressed with your endurance! Gives me hope that we can manage the MK AH party on our first night after an early flight from Vegas. A 6am wake-up call sounds pretty tough though!

A lot of moving parts after a very trying time. Not easy.
Yes, Mary Ellen was pretty busy just before the trip changing a lot, but there was a fair amount for me to do as well.
I'm glad to hear that. You certainly had enough sadness and stress recently.
Hopefully, things are going to turn the corner here. Have 2 more job interviews early next week... so we will see....
Did you Uber over? Or did they pick you up? I'm guessing you didn't walk.
We grabbed a Lyft. It was cheap and fast.
You mention ASMu after the cruise. Did you mean that was the other one? Or had you stayed at one before?
I'd stayed at Movies on a prior trip (2-3 years ago?); and Music is coming up. :)
And yet... I just can't get into the whole sports theme at Disney. It just doesn't jibe with my thoughts and feelings about Disney, whereas the other two All Stars do.
Me neither, and yet the folks who run the races there might think of it as such?
That's unfortunate. But... I suppose it is a value. If you want better themeing, you're gonna have to pony up for it.
A LOT more ponying!
:thumbsup2
Glad they didn't take those away too.
For SURE!!!! Maybe cuz families stay here and need tubs for the littles?
I've never really thought about it being high, but... I hate those body washes. I've occasionally been known to bring a bar of soap along with me, just for those times.
I prefer a good bar soap over gels any day of the week too!
Define "chilly"...
Low 50's with wind. Cold for Florida- I hadn't brought a winter coat, and yes, I know you Canadians think that's balmy and would be wearing shorts. LOL!
Really! Huh! Would've picked MK, but haven't seen DHS party.
I like the retro feel of the DHS stuff better. Vintage Christmases and best!
Hmmm... I see one hat, one scarf, but no gloves yet...
Not yet....
Interesting. Usually if it says 13 minutes, that means no (or little) wait. Then again, 20 is pretty short for TOT.
I think it'd jumped a bit as the crowd got there ahead of me as we paused for a couple photos.
Why "creepy"??
I don't think they are myself, but folks on the interwebs describe them as such.
Meh. No red nose. Just your average run of the mill reindeer.
I'm 1,000% positive is Vixen.

(You'll see why in a later chapter)
Oh! Gertie actually has the ball just like the pamphlet cover!
YES!! Super cute detail.
...except for that. Well, shoot.
I should have known better. I just don't care very much for fried foods of any kind. I'll eat a VERY occasional donut, but otherwise, pass.
Define "COLD"
See above. And the longer we were out in it, the colder it got!
So skip them here and head to Epcot. Copy that.
Correct! Plus, and this is the biggie: The empanadas from La Choza have a delicious red sauce and cotija cheese over them which makes them even better!! These were just okay.
They also look a little overdone?
Yes, they were a bit overdone, for sure.
How big was this??
I'd say about 12-15' tall? @Malia78 ??
They really do an amazing job, don't they? :)
They really do. It was the same on the cruise- just super well done shows.
Agreed. An absolute tragedy. They were one of... if not the best thing about DHS. I always made sure to watch them and have fond memories of them interacting with my kids.
Me as well. My kids LOVED their antics as did I. I was super sad to see them go during Covid.
 (Disney announces four figure increase to Jollywood ticket price. In an unrelated comment, Disney announces they will have a permanent outdoor ice rink with real ice.)
:lmao:
Not bad at all for that ride. I don't think (in the two? times I've ridden it) that I've waited less than half an hour.
It's really popular now- probably the longest lines after ROTR and Slinky. And a lot of the time, its line is longer than ROTR.
And yet,

It's not the GMR.
 And that's an even better excuse! :faint:
I was really tired for sure. As I remember, I did sleep pretty well!

I've heard good things about the Jollywood party. It looks like a lot of fun.
I enjoyed it quite a lot. I think next time, if there is one for me, I'd try to stay til the end and take in a few more of the rides with low wait times and stay longer at the Twilight Soiree. ALSO, the HBD has an upcharge party with exclusive cocktails and food that I'd have liked to have gone to.
It looks like a cute show.
They were all really good IMHO.
It is nice to see Disney bringing back some good entertainment to HS. Now they just need to do it for everyday guests to enjoy.
I'd agree. We'll see if the trend continues!
I can see why this was a crowded show.

The entire evening looks like fun. :) I think I need to look into it for next Christmas
I honestly think I liked it better than the MVMCP- no parade of course, and the fireworks are better at MK, but this one is full of such good shows and the lines weren't bad AT ALL.

Sounds like a great experience. Maybe something for us to consider. How did you get to the rental place?
We took at Lyft which wasn't really expensive at all. Very convenient. :)
Hmm not sure if I buy the Hollywood Hotel lit up in festive lights 🤔
It's definitely different. ;)
Yeah that doesn't sound very appetizing. However, as an Aussie, I'm not familiar with funnel cake, so maybe it's different to what I'm picturing.
Funnel cakes normally are sweet with choco sauce, fruit, whipped cream, honey or some combination of those. But this concept, like waffles and chicken, funnel cakes and sausage, etc... is becoming a lot more popular.
Ben and I noticed that when we were checking out some YouTube videos from FARTS. No doubt I will still be tempted.
I guess as long as you go in with low expectations of having a cocktails with a low ETOH-content you'll be good. :) Don't get me wrong, they taste fine, just not very boozy.
Now that sounds delicious!
I like the ones at Mexico in EPCOT so much more. Head to La Choza for bigger, better ones that have a little red sauce on them. :)
It looks like a really interesting production. I'd love to see it (or something like it) one day!
It was really good!
I love ice-skating, and I love Disney characters, and I love shows, but somehow ice-skating shows always seem a bit meh.
This was a tiny little space but I was surprised at how good the show was (the little that I could see through the crowd) despite that.
I'm very impressed with your endurance! Gives me hope that we can manage the MK AH party on our first night after an early flight from Vegas. A 6am wake-up call sounds pretty tough though!
If I'd gotten more sleep the night before I could have really gone the distance and closed down the park and taken advantage of the rides a bit more at the end. Also, there is a Latin-themed dance party that we didn't even check out.

In your case, you'll have the advantage of being on "West Coast time" so it'll feel 3 hours earlier (might be Mountain time, can't remember)

Yes, Mary Ellen was pretty busy just before the trip changing a lot, but there was a fair amount for me to do as well.
But it all got done. :)
Hopefully, things are going to turn the corner here. Have 2 more job interviews early next week... so we will see....
Oh! Good luck!
I'd stayed at Movies on a prior trip (2-3 years ago?); and Music is coming up. :)
And there’s the trifecta.
A LOT more ponying!
::yes::
Low 50's with wind.
Ah. Warm.

and yes, I know you Canadians think that's balmy and would be wearing shorts. LOL!
::yes::
I don't think they are myself, but folks on the interwebs describe them as such.
Alrighty. :confused3
I'm 1,000% positive is Vixen.

(You'll see why in a later chapter)
popcorn::
I'd say about 12-15' tall?
You didn't! Buahahaha!
