The ABCs of a Very Merry Christmastime Land and Sea Adventure-J is for: A Jingle Bell-Style Jaunt Around WS (3/27)

‘I’ is for: Icicles

AND

I’m BACK in the Bubble!

As they say, all good things must come to an end. And so it was with our lovely Merrytime Cruise on the Disney Dream. We’d packed up our Christmas goodies that were part of our Ornament Exchange, the tree, the stockings, etc… and got our luggage ready to roll. Come 6:00AM we were both up and raring to go. I mean as much as raring could mean when one’s in vacation mode. Oh, wait! I was headed back to Disney and things seem to “rare” a bit more robustly when one’s on the way TO Disney.

We wanted to grab some breakfast before getting our disembarkation process started as the next meal time was a bit nebulous. The best option (perhaps only option?) was The Enchanted Garden. Only a few of our intrepid dining mates joined us for our hasty meal. I ordered some eggs and ham and had to pull out my microscope to find the ham. I shouldn’t complain, it did the trick of staving off starvation until quite a bit later that afternoon, but I did find it a bit on the skimpy side for portion size of meat to egg ratio.

We decided to self-disembark with our own luggage as we were in a huge hurry. In the end, we cut it pretty close for comfort with the entire process. The line was hella long to get off wrapping all the way around the Atrium shops, but by 8:00 we were off the ship and headed to the Ride Share area. Had I known it would take a solid 20 minutes for a ride to arrive, I’d have ordered it while still in line to get off the ship. We white-knuckled it all the way to the Brightline Station and true to the usual ways of fate, the driver got stopped at every. single. red. light. I kid you not, every one of them.

With only 10 minutes to spare, we finally arrived at the station and were lowkey freaking out not really knowing the process, distances, security, etc… Luckily, Bright Line makes it very, very easy to arrive and get on their trains quite easily. We used the elevators to get us and our bags upstairs to the waiting area, went through security, got our boarding passes and waited until they called our train’s group down to the platform area. The station is full of wonderful amenities. For more money you can upgrade to Premium and that includes the lounge where you can pay even more for drinks. I don’t get that, but apparently, it’s the vibe some folks want. There is also a pretty nice mini mart for snacks and drinks and other sundries you may need. There are also plenty of charging ports and comfy chairs if you arrived with more time than we had.

Looking back, if I ever book another Bright Line, the 9:25 train might not be the best option for coming off a cruise. However, the price difference was pretty sizeable (like $40 more?) and the next train was later at 11:30ish and that sucks a full 2 hours off Disney time. Pros and cons, Folks….

I’m a fan of train travel. Compared to the trains I took across Kazakhstan this was super posh. Even not comparing it to the skeevy accommodations on those, Bright Line is really quite nice! The seats were super comfy, there was wifi, charging ports, and tables. For a hefty price you could order snacks and drinks, and I chuckled at the party across from me who ordered not one, not two, but three rounds of travel fortitude. $$$$$$$

I busied myself during the 3-hour journey editing photos a bit with the phone app, catching up on trip notes, chatting with my neighbor a bit, and enjoying the passing scenery. Trust me, this trek is far less tedious by rail rather than by car and before we knew it we were on our way from the station at MCO to All Stars Sports in another Uber and in our room by 1:15.

You might be asking yourself about the room. Even if you weren’t, you know I’m going to tell you, right? When we went to the desk to check in, we needed to add Kari to the room, but they were so nice they didn’t charge her for as an extra adult, but rather simply added her as a day guest since she was leaving in the middle of the night for her flight back home. Huzzah! But, even better than that, when they asked if I was celebrating something, and given the fact that they’d assigned me to a king room at first (which wasn’t going to work for the 2 of us), they upgraded me to a preferred room RIGHT next to the Hall! It was literally a 30-second walk from the Food Court and buses to my corner room in the Calypso Section. It was also right by the pool and laundry as well. SCORE!!

(Our very own, private coach!)

Taking advantage of the timely arrival, we struck out for EPCOT to see what mischief we could get into. If mischief was calories, we found that in good measure. After waltzing into the park at 1:55, we snapped a couple of Entrance photos and made a beeline for the food booths.

True to my OCD self, I had made a list of the schnicky-schnacks I wanted to try. First stop was at the Favorites of Festivals Past where I loaded up on the Reuben Croquettes and Panettone Trifle. Kari headed next door where I’d meet her in a minute. Just as I put these hot little numbers into my cold little hands, the skies opened up and dumped buckets of rain. I took shelter under the breezeway and waited it out. With my sad and cold croquettes, I met Kari in Commuicore Hall where she’d gotten a Spaceship Earth gingerbread tile and drink. We didn’t wait long for a table to rest and eat at where I enjoyed an existential moment whilst devouring the deliciousness of the Panettone Trifle. Holy schnikies was that ever yummy!!

(The Croquettes were pretty good. I did eat them all and they were a really nice lunch for me.)

The 900-tile gingerbread Spaceship Earth dome was cycling its little lightshow, and we enjoyed taking a look at it while we found a few of the “hidden” Mickeys.

From there, we headed for World Showcase with a stop at Nochebuena for me while Kari continued her cookie collection a bit further on. I don’t remember where or which one she got- sorry! While she was away, it had started to sprinkle again, and I found refuge under the big shade structure in front of the kiosk. Actually, I joined another lady by asking if she’d mind if I shared her table and she said “absolutely, come on in!”

Unfortunately, I didn't love the tamale I got. Normally, the few plant-based Festival items I've gotten in the past have been really good, but this was just super salty and the texture was off. I did eat it because I was started my crawl quite hungry, but I wouldn't order this again in the future.

My tablemate, and her hubby who joined us with a beer he'd trotted off to get, chatted for quite a while, and I came to find out their daughter was working as “a character in China” but they couldn’t divulge which one. We swapped stories and shot the breeze until Kari arrived then we continued our touring.

Just as we got back to the path towards WS, I glanced behind me and was treated to this glorious view- I hoped this was a sign of good things to come that week…

I’ll leave off there and pick it up with our spin around the world next time. Until then, and in celebration of St. Patty's Day, I'll leave you with this:

May you have all the happiness
And luck that life can hold
And at the end of your rainbows
May you find a pot of gold.

~ Old Irish Blessing

The Brightline train looks like it was a good deal. I agree with you that taking a train is better than driving. You can get a lot done while riding a train. :)

The Panettone trifle looks delicious. I wish I had tried one when we were there in December.

It was a pretty good way to make that trek if you need to get to Ft. Lauderdale or Miami. There are a few other stops as well. It's comfy and easy and very affordable compared to other options. :)

It totally made me want to try and make it at home next Holiday season. T'was a good one.

Very true!
I ordered some eggs and ham and had to pull out my microscope to find the ham.
Unfortunate. :(

Thanks for pointing to it, otherwise I'd have never found it!
Had I known it would take a solid 20 minutes for a ride to arrive, I’d have ordered it while still in line to get off the ship
And if you'd ordered it, it would've been there in 2 minutes and you'd have missed it. You can't win.

Of course. If you hadn't been in a rush, you wouldn't have stopped once.

Um... I think I'll pass on that? Unless there was free food and really comfy chairs?
Cute nail polish. :)
Surely that's not the premium lounge???

I think I'd suck up the price difference and not sweat it! Too close.

Not exactly surprised to hear that.

I wonder if they remember the ride?
Looks pretty comfy. :)

3 hours...
Did the train have stops between Fort Lauderdale and MCO? I would've thought it would be faster than a car.

I bet! ::yes::

Glad that worked out. But... I wouldn't have said anything and not worried about it. Unless she needed her own key.

Nice score!
Like this shot of Kari. :)

You just keep scoring perks!

Yeah... I do that too.
You don't want to miss that one thing... or be too full for it.

:( Oh dear...
I met Kari in Commuicore Hall where she’d gotten a Spaceship Earth gingerbread tile
Heard of those. ::yes::
the Panettone Trifle. Holy schnikies was that ever yummy!!
So the schnicky-schnacks were holy schnikies good?
 That looks stunningly good!
The 900-tile gingerbread Spaceship Earth dome was cycling its little lightshow,
I didn't know it lit up!
Good eye!
Too bad it was disappointing. It looks interesting.
My tablemate, and her hubby who joined us with a beer he'd trotted off to get, chatted for quite a while, and I came to find out their daughter was working as “a character in China” but they couldn’t divulge which one.
I wonder if they're not allowed to?
No surprise there. Disney has enough money for several pots of gold.
(But wonder shot, though. :))

I’m curious about Brightline. I heard it may eventually go directly from MCO to WDW, cool 😎
I loved the Reuben croquettes, it was one of the only things I ended up trying at Festival of the Holidays.
Yay to the room upgrade!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day ☘️ We had Reubens for dinner!

Your mad dash to make the train gave me anxiety. :crazy2: Changing times would be a hard choice to make.

Excellent room Pixie Dust!

Lovely photos.

Beautiful and Magical!

Thanks for pointing to it, otherwise I'd have never found it!
:lmao: Microscopic, I say!
And if you'd ordered it, it would've been there in 2 minutes and you'd have missed it. You can't win.
Naturally! I've only cut it close to missing one once though. Usually I order it just as I pick up my bag from the carousels and it's there once you get to the pick up point.
Of course. If you hadn't been in a rush, you wouldn't have stopped once.

It's a rule.
Of course. It's universal especially when you're running late for work.
Um... I think I'll pass on that? Unless there was free food and really comfy chairs?
Yeah, hard pass for me too.
Cute nail polish. :)
Thanks! :D
Surely that's not the premium lounge???
I think it was. Although, I doubt they'd say anything if you sallied on up.
I think I'd suck up the price difference and not sweat it! Too close.
Was a bit dicey, but all's well that ends well.
I wonder if they remember the ride?
LOL! Likely... not.
Glad that worked out. But... I wouldn't have said anything and not worried about it. Unless she needed her own key.
Hmmm, now I can't remember why exactly it was that she needed to be attached to the room, but she did.
You just keep scoring perks!
The Pixie Dust was strong!
Yeah... I do that too.
You don't want to miss that one thing... or be too full for it.
Exactly! Best to have a plan or you tinker around with stuff lower on the "want list" and blow the limited appetite one has.
So the schnicky-schnacks were holy schnikies good?
That's a great way to put it!
 That looks stunningly good!
Oh, trust me... it didn't last long!
Too bad it was disappointing. It looks interesting.
I was pretty sad- the concept is a good one.

Yay to the room upgrade!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day ☘️ We had Reubens for dinner!
I've heard that too, but also heard the plan was scrapped permanently. It'd be a nice surprise if they changed their minds!

The 1,000 Island sure added a level of greatness!

We had all the goodies and it was all sooooo good! I made some Melon Ball cocktails which were super yummy!

Your mad dash to make the train gave me anxiety. :crazy2: Changing times would be a hard choice to make.
Yeah, I won't lie, too close for comfort but all's well that ends well.
Excellent room Pixie Dust!
I was wonderfully surprised! Such a blessing!
This looks really good.
It fantastic! I'm usually not someone who even orders the desserts/sweets at the Festivals, but I'm sure glad I did this one!

Naturally! I've only cut it close to missing one once though. Usually I order it just as I pick up my bag from the carousels and it's there once you get to the pick up point.
How did you come close to missing one?
Of course. It's universal especially when you're running late for work.
Um...
No, it's not.
I really don't care if I'm late for work. Don't get me wrong, I'm almost always early for work. Where I work, when your relief shows up, you can go home. And I almost always kick people out early. So if I'm late one day... I don't sweat it. I've got enough "early time" in the bank that I think people would cut a lot of slack for me.
I'm not talking hours late, or anything, but... 10-15 minutes due traffic?
I think it was. Although, I doubt they'd say anything if you sallied on up.
:sad2:
The Pixie Dust was strong!
:goodvibes
Exactly! Best to have a plan or you tinker around with stuff lower on the "want list" and blow the limited appetite one has.
"I'm so stuffed... I couldn't eat another thing. I wonder what they have at this kiosk? Oh, no! That's the one thing I wanted!!"
No, and they said as much. I'm glad they were discreet, but I did figure out who it was. ;)
How?

I love traveling by train. So stress free once you actually know you’ve made it onto the train 😂. Glad you got there in time.
Epcot’s festival snacks and decor look lovely. That trifle looks delicious. I’d definitely be up for trying that 😋
Thank you for the blessing and I hope you enjoyed St Patrick’s Day :goodvibes

Oh, wait! I was headed back to Disney and things seem to “rare” a bit more robustly when one’s on the way TO Disney.
YAY for more Disney time!!! It certainly does take the edge off that last morning of the cruise feeling. We've done it both ways, and the back to Disney instead of the airport version of travel is FAR superior!! 😃

I love that you make these!!!! You are @StarWarsMomofGirls! always make me jealous with your cute ways to stay organized for the day and keep track of the things you want to do/eat/drink!

I came to find out their daughter was working as “a character in China” but they couldn’t divulge which one.
Ooh, love that!!! On Jimmy's first WDW trip, we were in line to meet Belle. Aurora and Cinderella. The family in front of us was waiting to see Aurora and the Mom was bawling as soon as she came into view--it was her daughter. It was such a sweet interaction when they got up to see Aurora who was really fighting back tears herself to stay in character. Love that the parents you met were trying to follow the rules about who their daughter is "friends with." :)

Looks like a postcard for F.Arts!!

How did you come close to missing one?
Ordered it too soon and underestimated the time it takes to walk to the pick up point. Nashville is especially far away from baggage.
Um...
No, it's not.

I get that, and they should give you grace if you've been nice all along that way, but I meant like if you're running late for work the lights will almost never be in your favor.
"I'm so stuffed... I couldn't eat another thing. I wonder what they have at this kiosk? Oh, no! That's the one thing I wanted!!"
A scenario played out many times I'm sure.
(Not so) subtle hints- They said which pavilion and that "she was the friend of the main character." :)

Thank you for the blessing and I hope you enjoyed St Patrick’s Day :goodvibes
It IS a nice way to travel! For sure. Especially for a regional commute like that one.

EPCOT does a really nice job with decor and I love how each pavilion is themed so well. :goodvibes

We did! I made Midori Melon Ball cocktails and we had a lovely dinner of the very un-traditional corned beef. :lmao:

I'd agree! It's never very fun ending vacation no matter where it's from. Blech!
I love that you make these!!!! You are @StarWarsMomofGirls! always make me jealous with your cute ways to stay organized for the day and keep track of the things you want to do/eat/drink!
I've made them for years and years and still have most of them. They've come in handy now and then too. :) Plus, they do keep my on track and organized. They've saved my bacon for confirmation #s a couple of times too.

IT was so fun to see them bragging on her and so proud. Just a lovely tableside chat with these folks and sharing our love for Disney together. I love interactions like that. :goodvibes I can't imagine actually getting to SEE their daughter, like you got to see happen, all dressed up and in character!
Looks like a postcard for F.Arts!!
It was definitely one of the loveliest rainbow scenes I've seen there. I think it'd be even prettier with the flowers for F&G.

ordered it too soon and underestimated the time it takes to walk to the pick up point. Nashville is especially far away from baggage.
That learned ya!

Except now you're always having to wait!
I get that, and they should give you grace if you've been nice all along that way, but I meant like if you're running late for work the lights will almost never be in your favor.
And I'm okay with that.
Been caught by trains or accidents a few times... I always aim to be early, so when that does happen... I usually wind up... on time!
(Not so) subtle hints- They said which pavilion and that "she was the friend of the main character." :)
That makes it easy.
