I haven't seen some of the movies mentioned here. My husband watched Saving Private Ryan and urged me not to watch it. It is the only movie that he will never watch again. Maybe it was so powerful because both of our fathers fought in WW II.
Although it is not classified as a war movie, I loved Forrest Gump because of the love and loyalty between Forrest and Bubba and between Forrest and Captain Dan.

I also liked a series on the History channel that is not a movie. It starts with the Rise of Nazi Germany, then Nazi Germany, then the Fall of Nazi Germany. Very educational and very moving. I always think of my Dad as he fought in WWII in North Africa and Europe. He was in Germany when the war ended.
