Anyone have a Benihana in their town who can compare the two? My kids FAVORITE restaurant is Benihana. They love the shrimp and steak combos and the fried rice. Because we can go to Benihana at home, have never considered Teppan Edo (so many other choices to try!). But our home Benihana has been closed for a year so contemplating Teppan Edo in a few weeks. Will they enjoy it as much? How do they compare? Thanks!

It basic Japanese hibachi with Disney prices. It's not amazing, but it's good and it's fun. We don't bother with it, except for the one time, because we have two close by to our home.

very similar. Benehana has better prices.

Very fun but no fried rice there last time I checked.

It's generally not as good as Benihana, BUT, in the realm of WDW food, it's not terribly overpriced, and of course, you get some entertainment.

We don’t frequent similar places at home so can’t really compare, but we enjoy Teppan Edo. It’s one of my son’s favorites. We’ll usually make a point to go each trip.

As a PP said, no fried rice - they do a veggie/noodle thing instead. White rice is served on the side.

I like the filet vs the regular steak type, to me it’s worth the extra cost for me and DS.

Benihana is so much better... we have a Tepanyaki that we go to here and its so good. Went to Teppan Edo for the first time last trip and it was awful in comparison.

I bet it wouldn't if it was located in Epcot. :D Disney is a business , just like any other. They probably know how many $$ per square foot they need in order to generate a profit. I would believe their intrinsic costs are probably higher than Benehana.

I'll give you a example from about a decade or so ago. I visited Cedar Point in Ohio. I remember several things about it as far as cost - parking was about the same as WDW, the counter service food and drinks that were offered were slightly more expensive than WDW. The real eye-opener was there was a Chick-Fil-A in the back of the park and it's listed prices were about double of every other one I had been to. This was a perfect apples to apples comparison.

During the cooking show, Teppan Edo will make some of the food into the shape of a Disney character, such as Mickey or Olaf. I actually like the food at Teppan Edo better than Benihana.

Reading this thread makes me jealous of everyone else's Benihana restaurants. Ours is straight up trash compared to Teppan Edo & the small Mom & Pop hibachi place in our town.

Try Kobe - right on 192 outside of Celebration. I would go there over Teppan Edo any day. We did Teppan Edo once and will never go back - we were extremely disappointed in the portion sizes, the "entertainment" portion of the meal preparation and the quality of the food. That is one of the 2 restaurants on Disney Property I will flat out tell friend not to visit.

My kids favorite restaurant at WDW is Teppan Edo. They beg us to go back every time. Food is delicious (highly recommend the salmon) and our chef was incredible. The Disney twists on the typical "show" were really enjoyable too.

Benihana is my favorite restaurant too! I am sad I will not be getting to go there for my birthday this year since there is still no in restaurant dining in my area yet. And the carry out is just not the same (have done it 3-4 times in the last year). I happen to love Teppan Edo too. It is not exactly the same as Benihana (no fried rice), but it is still very good. I am most excited about that reservation for next month and have contemplated seeing if I could add a second night to dine there! I love the noodles and veggies and of course the filet. Getting hungry thinking about it. I think if your kids like Benihana that you probably can't go wrong at Teppan Edo. A few years ago my friend ended up coming to WDW with me (won something through work and went a few days earlier since I was going to be there that week). Asked her where she wanted to eat and her first answer was the Japanese place that I always talk about. She loved it too!

Greatly prefer Benihana but tepan edo is ok. As others said no fried rice but the meals do come with noodles. The meats are similar.

We usually eat at Teppan Edo every trip. We’ve found the food to be on par with our local chain hibachi restaurants - and our local places are not at Disney so of course that makes Teppan Edo even better. We also like how you get rice and noodles at Teppan Edo which is not the case at our local places. There you get rice and have to order noodles as an add on.

Sorry but Benihana is probably some of the worst Teppanyaki food that we have ever had. Teppan Edo is good. They do not do the fried rice, but we don't miss that since we can get it at our local place. We have always had good food at Teppan and go back almost every trip.

Cool. That opens up more tables for the rest of us! Everyone on this board has their restaurant love / hate list. I have absolutely no desire to return to 'Ohana again. To each his own.
