I haven't been on them since before 2004, I hear they made it harder to spin them really fast...

Is it 'harder' to spin very fast, or is it impossible to spin very fast?

Is it true that some teacups spin faster than others?

What are the wheels made of? Are they just metal, plastic, or do they have some rubber for easy gripping?

Are any of you or your loved ones teacups pros who have tips on how to get the modern teacups going their fastest?

Would wearing gloves that help prevent your hands slipping on the wheel help to get it going?

My mission for my upcoming trip is to get the teacup spinning like a top!

Thanks in advance!!

LOL, I love questions from left field! After seeing so many of the same questions asked over and over again, this one is new to me.

To my knowledge they have not slowed the tea cups down.

However, I have been on the tea cups at DL, MK, DL Paris, and Tokyo DL. And the ones in Tokyo definitely spin a lot faster than the others. I could not handle them and they made me feel sick in 15 seconds. I had to get my DS to stop pulling on the wheel. It is hard for me to get sick on the ones at the other parks.

So maybe there is something to the idea that they have been slowed down on purpose at DL...

It is hard to make them spin really, really fast.

I have heard that one of the DL cups does spin faster. You would have to Google it.

Metal.

No pro here. I am one of those folks that remember spinning up the tea cups as a young child but as I got older my stomach did not handle them as well. See my story about Tokyo DL above.

Maybe a little but I doubt it. You will have most luck going fastest with three people on the same cup all working together. Three will be tough to fit if all adult size. You will have to cram your knees in.

Good luck!

Back in the day, when I wanted to go fast. I would do a hand over hand spin. Start with one hand at the 12:00 position, spin, follow with the other hand at the top and keep going. Some will spin with their hands at the 5: and 7: 00 positions and just do short turns before regripping.
They make the wheels solid so you can't put your thumbs on the inside. Can be pretty painful if you don't let go at the right time.
Don't forget after going as fast as you can, you still have to walk off the thing. That can be a challenge.

I've heard the purple cup is fastest. I agree with jaylens papa. Or if you're with others we all alternate doing that same thing . We've got going pretty fast before to the point of having difficulty walking out. Lol. So fun!

Which cup is the slowest? Ever since I had my son my motion sickness has intensified ten fold that I can't even be a front seat passenger in cars anymore. I will be taking the not so sleepy Dramamine so I can enjoy these rides with my 2 yr old.

All the teacups are on spinning plates that go the same speed, but the teacup doesn't automatically spin itself - you have to turn the wheel. I've seen lots of people just sit in the teacups looking around without spinning them.

you can get them to spin quite fast! last time i was there with a friend we tried to get them to spin as fast as we could, she's little so it was all up to me, it was all fun and laughs until my friend's sunglasses flew out of the teacup and we were worried they might have got crushed or hit someone else, when the ride stopped a nice cast member was waiting at the exit with her sunglasses, lol.

There is one that spins extra fast!! It's the purple one with the flowers, NOT the plain purple one! ;)

We're one of those families that likes to spin fast, too - so fast that our eyesight blurs at the end of the ride. (ok, we might find out 20 years from now that this was a bad idea, but we love it.) We've spun the teacups as fast as we could in WDW and Paris, and we think the ones in Paris are braked to prevent extra fast spinning. We've also spun the cups in DL, but we haven't been there since everyone was old to pull their weight spinning, so I can't say if DL's teacups are braked or not. Fast spinning is a group activity, with everyone pulling together like the happy roustabouts in Dumbo. We'll be there in a week, and I'll post the answer when we get back. Meanwhile, I'm going to try to find out which cup in DL is supposed to spin faster. At WDW, we always say that the pink cups spin the fastest.

As for the slowest cup, you can always ride without turning the wheel at all. That's what we do when DH is riding with us. He loves to watch us spin, but he can only ride with us if we promise we won't. Usually, he stands on the side and takes pictures of his family of lunatic spinners.

Only 8 more days until our next teacup ride of awesome intenseness. :goodvibes

Have you considered ginger tablets? They are totally non-drowsy!

I've been on the teacups plenty of times...ridden different colors and:confused3 I don't think the white cup with purple flowers spins any faster than the others. We rode it on purpose since it was supposed to be the fastest but I couldn't notice any difference.

Be warned, it took us several tries to get to that particular cup...guests know it is supposed to spin faster so it's usually one of the first to be filled.

Good Luck and Happy Spinning!

It's supposed to be the white cup with the purple flowers....but maybe it's actually the SOLID purple?? Who know?! LOL hehehe :goodvibes

:lmao: That's me! When I'm riding with my niece I'll let her spin the wheel since she's not that strong and we don't spin very fast. Otherwise I am just content to ride in the teacup as it does its dance. The best time to ride it is as night with all the lanterns lit up...so pretty.

I concur about riding at night! I LOVE how pretty it looks with all the lanterns. I don't really like to spin then either, just sit and take it all in! :lovestruc

Thanks all for all the suggestions! I'll try to get the purple cup at least once! I'll be there with my 1 year old nephew so there will also be a time on the teacups where we don't spin.

This is probably a silly suggestion since I'm sure you've tried it...I hear a lot of people suggest fixating on a stationary point to help avoid getting motion sickness.

I don't get motion sick too bad, if I'm riding in a car I have to look at the road or I will start to feel sick after a while. And I also made the mistake of not taking medicine on a deep sea fishing trip, and ended up spending my time feeding the fishes.

If you get sick on a lot of rides I think you are smart in taking some kind of medicine so you can enjoy yourself!

We were at Disney just last week, we had heard the purple tea cup was the fastest, so as we stood in line my husband asked the cast member which teacup was the fastest. He said, at first, that they were all the same, but when we said we'd heard that the purple one was the fastest, he grinned a wide grin and reiterated, that they were all the same. We happened to be the first in line for the next loading, so we got in the purple one! Now my husband and D18 always pride themselves on their ability to spin the teacups. I usually don't ride in the same cup with them for that very reason, but this time I did. Well, they started madly turning the wheel and we were off! Our teacup was spinning so fast that even the cast member was laughing and pointing at us. He then picked up the microphone and announced that the purple teacup was clearly the fastest this time around. I could see onlookers laughing and pointing at us as we whirled by. The cast member, winked and grinned at us again when we got off. So, officially, they are all the same, ;) go for the purple!

I haven't done any rides except a carousel since I had my son. I just think it's funny that prior to pregnancy my car sickness was only in the backseat now it's if I'm not driving I get it, heck even the new iOS 7 on the iPhone was making me sick before they came out with a fix for it.
