Anyone stayed here since the sink hole incident? I'm trying to plan an extra trip right after Thanksgiving. Dh and ds aren't interested in Christmas decor so I'm looking for a resort with lots of amenities for them. Government site I can stay in 2 br under 400.00.

My friend just got back for a 5 night stay..... she said it was ok. nothing great and the hotel section that they stayed in was a dump.. She also didnt like that it was at the end of a major road made for a long ride. The resort is actually in Cleremont she said not kissimmee.:)

I stayed at the hotel at the front of Summer Bay resort (Crown Clun Inn) like 2 weeks before the sinkhole incident,I thought the hotel and resort looked pretty decent but I have to agree with the location. When I stayed there it was summer and the traffic was horrible to get to the parks,Disney is the closest and still took forever,Sea World and Universal would take almost an hour with summer and holiday crowds. It's not a bad a drive if you're coming during offseason with no traffic but the combination of it being pretty far and a crowded road can make going back and forth from the parks pretty annoying. To Disney you do have the Sherberth rd entrance that puts you in Osceola pkwy by Animal Kingdom pretty easily but I remember one day it raining and all the parks emptied out and I ended up sitting like 20 minutes at the light on Sherberth rd to turn west on 192.

Thanks. Another option is cypress palms but doesn't look like there are many amenities. Waiting on a quote for Bonnet Creek now. We've already stayed here and love it.

Try the Fantasy World resort In Kissimmee. It is very close to the intersection of 535 and I92, a couple of miles from DTD. The condos are all 2 BR 2Bath with W/D, enclosed patio and hide a bed in living room and completely remodeled full kitchens. I think I'm paying about $140 a night in May but have paid cheaper. They have a fairly new pool area with a fantastic lazy river and 2 very large water slides plus a zero entry pool and many other amenities. They have an adjacent business with a surf machine that you get a discount too. They also have an awesome pool bar with a fantastic happy hour and reasonable normal prices. You can also walk to restaurants like CiCi's, Olive Garden and Arby's. Also had free internet, really a great place to stay if offsite.

We checked in to Summer Bay the night of the sinkhole event. I recommend staying elsewhere.

Mystic Dunes is great resort with excellent customer service and is often on Hotwire for great rates. We stayed at Westgate Leisure Resort over Thanksgiving. The condo was clean. The resort is not fancy but the location was fantastic!

Bookit.com often offers great rates for townhouses at Regal Palms Resort in Davenport. This resort has a really nice pool area, lazy river, waterslide and poolside bar. Davenport is about 15-20 minutes away from Disney Parks using Sherberth Rd. cut through...

I second Regal Palms! The pool area is wonderful, slide, lazy river, tiki bar and weekly "dive in" movies, and a fantastic kids game room.

However, I would suggest booking through an owner direct. Using a tour operator does not guarantee which type of room you will get as it gets assigned at the time of your arrival. You don't know what your going to get. There are several reasonably priced homes @ Regal Palms on VRBO. You can also read their reviews for that specific home itself.

I've heard mixed reviews about Summer Bay Resort. Anyone stay there recently who can let us know what it was like?

What about Holiday Inn Club Vacations Orange Lake? Tons of amenities, and you don't have to leave the property to have a great vacation.

I stayed there in August. We stayed in the timeshare section, not the hotel. We had a 2 bedroom unit. It was nice/clean and slept 8. The sofa bed didn't pull out right so we called and there was someone there to fix it within 1/2 hour. Plenty of pools and my kids liked the splash pool area. It was a little drive to the parks, but not terrible. We'd stay there again - definitely better than cramming 5 people into one room in a Disney hotel. One downside was the wifi was pretty slow, although we weren't in the room that much to get too frustrated by it.

I've not stayed at Summer Bay, but we own a condo in the same general area. There is a back way into Disney right at your fingertips, keeps you off the 192, country road, no traffic, abandobed Orange groves, you pass the rear of Orange Lake resort. Turn left at Avalon Rd. (Off 192 just east of Summer Bay) then right on Hartzog Rd. Takes you to Western Way, and your own personal 'Welcome to Disney' gates (feels like they're just for you because there is so little traffic). If you stay at Summer Bay, or the general area, you never have to take the 192 to get to a Disney Park.

That truly is a back way,I've driven back there by those roads to look at the incomplete Flamingo Crossings Disney area and have come in through that Western Way entrance.Flamingo Crossings was very interesting, some nicely landscaped streets with absolutely nothing there.Since I've been coming up to Disney by US 27 from South Florida lately I'm going to try the Avalon rd way next time. However looking at the map it just looks further than just going a bit up the road on 192 and turning left at Sherberth rd which is the way I normally come in,the traffic on 192 usually gets worse at the curve on 192 just past Sherberth rd.It is good to know of another option though.

Avalon Rd was freshly paved last summer, with that came a lot of traffic enforcement the week we were down, generally right before you hit WW. The road is actually 30 mph, most, me included, usually cruised between 40-50. Luckily I noticed this the first day, so I adjusted accordingly.

We stayed in October and they were doing a lot of renovations as Exploria resorts had just purchased it.

It wasn't bad. The room was clean and while it was a bit dated the bedding was newer. We rented through SkyAuction.com - so pretty much the same site you are going through. The 2 bedroom 2 baths do not have balconies and the master bathroom is tiny with a standard tub/shower combo. It was fine for us since all we did in the room was sleep.

We saw 1 bug the entire week and it was at the door right after we got back from Disney. So I am sure it ran inside while we were coming in. We killed it right away.

The pools aren't that spectacular and the new water park (they were building it while we were there) costs extra. The lake (we didn't use) is tiny compared to how it looks in the picture.

Everyone was polite and the bartender at the main pool was great. I ordered a kids meal for my son at the pool and when it was brought out they accidentally knocked over my empty drink (only ice was left) - they brought me a free drink.

It was October and I thought the ride to the parks was pretty fast. We would stay there again but it probably wouldn't be our first choice. It's clean and cheap though and that's a plus.

It must depend on which part/building you stay in then. We stayed in a 2 bedroom/2 bath and had a balcony. We also had a large bathroom for the master bathroom. The shower was in a separate part of the bathroom (with a door) and we had a large separate tub with jets. The other bathroom was smaller with a regular tub/shower combo.

Yes, some of the rooms do have balconies but I believe you can't rent those through RCI. The ones on Sky Auction, Armed forces vacation club, etc. aren't going to have the balconies or larger rooms.

Either way, it's a decent resort that I would stay at again although it wouldn't be my first choice.

We are leaving a day early so we need an low cost option to stay the night before we check into the Yacht Club. I booked us at the Crown Club Inn for the night ($55 before tax on Expedia)
