Can someone tell me the benefits of a studio over a standard hotel room purchased with cash? Any information is appreciated!

The studios are larger than any moderate or economy hotel room on WDW property. They are comparable or larger in size than the deluxe rooms as well. They include a private balcony or porch. The real benefit is the kitchenette. This includes a medium size frig, microwave, coffeemaker, sink and toaster. The OKW studios have 2 queen beds. All other WDW DVC studios have a queen bed and a pullout sofa. Especially when traveling with two, the sofa can add even more of a special feel over a hotel room. But, the 2 beds can also be nice when there's more than a couple traveling.

All the DVC studios are in deluxe resorts and depending on where you stay it may or may not have deluxe resort amenitites such as valet parking, room service etc. A standard room in a deluxe resort would provide the same deluxe resort amenities but the studio is larger than most standard deluxe resort rooms and you have the added convenience of having a mini kitchenette with a sink, coffee maker, microwave oven and a refrigerator. Also because of the room set up(at WLV, BWV, BCV) with one queen bed and a sleeper sofa and the mini kitchenette the room feels much roomier and has more of an apt feel than a standard room with 2 beds.

Any information is appreciated!
It depends uopn what you are looking for. If you need the deluxe hotel amenities your best bet would be one of the studios at the conveniently located resort hotels. However if you plan on sleeping more than 2 comfortably your best bet would be an OKW studio since they all have twin queen size beds along with a noticibly larger floor plan. They are tough to get with cash but well worth it.

Actually the OKW studios are 17 square feet larger than the studios at the other DVC resorts, they do not have a noticeably larger floor plan. The studios at WLV, BWV & BCV actually feel larger since they only have one queen bed and a sleeper sofa, so when the sofa is folded up and not in use the studio feels very spacious. If you have more than 2 people in your group and no one wants to sleep on the sleeper sofa then OKW studio is the only DVC studio that has 2 queen beds vs 1 queen and a sleeper sofa.

Just our personal preferences:

There's only two of us so when we go to OKW we get a 1-B/R for the space and slower pace we intend for that particular trip.

We don't like the studio that much at OKW, seems too much like a regular hotel room, kitchenette included or not, simply because of the double beds.

At the other resorts, BWV, VWL, and I'm sure, BCV, the studios feel more like a villa. I just like the layout better there with the sofas instead of the 2nd bed. Makes it seem roomier even tho physically it's slightly smaller. That plus the location of the resorts really makes studios at those locations a lot more attractive than the studios at OKW. I don't particularly care for the 1-B/R's at those resorts however because they are considerably smaller than OKW 1-B/R units, and cost a lot more points.

When we have guests with us, then we will get a 1 or 2 B/R no matter which resort we're staying at.

If I were given a choice at equal cash cost between e.g. standard room at Beach Club and BCV studio, I would probably take the standard room for the housekeeping and two queen beds, important for our family of 4. You can get a fridge from the resort (at an extortionate $10/night), and buy a cheap toaster at Walmart, if those things are important.

But if it were just one or two people, the kitchenette might make the studio preferable.

Also, with a Studio (or any DVC lodging), I don't believe there is an extra charge for extra adults. (I'm sure this will be corrected if I'm mistaken!) :D

There is a $25 per adult charge for adults number 3 and 4 in the Disney deluxe standard hotel rooms, while dvc does not charge extra no matter what ages are in a room.

So, that could be an extra $60 bucks (plus tax) a night for the standard hotel room if you have 4 adults and a fridge! And no microwave, sink or TOASTER! ;)

Tagrel,

Two adults in a double-size sleeper sofa might be a little too cozy. Other than that, good points! And don't forget the free paper plates!;)

ericthewise, if you are playing cash for the studio, you would get full housekeeping, just like the inn room. It's only when staying on points that you get to clean up after yourselves, just like at home!
