So, when you run over a skunk, how do you get rid of the smell?

From under the car?

Not me. Our DD did it. She is forbidden to park the car in the garage until the smell is gone.

I'd go to the carwash and get the special underbody wash. It will just go away by itself, eventually.

If you took it through the car wash, would that help?

Yes, I would think a car wash (or three!) with the extra undercarriage wash would do it. After having to deal with skunks in the past you have my deepest sympathy...blech!:eek::headache:

Yeah, that's what I am thinking too.

I just hope the car washes are still open - we got our first blast of SNOW this morning!! Not sticking around though, and going to be back in the 50's this weekend.

It was dark and rainy last night, and DD was coming home (after taking her exam in Biochemistry) on our back country road with no shoulder, so while I'm sorry for the skunk (and DD was in tears; she said he looked like Pepe lePeu), I'm REALLY glad she didn't swerve and roll into the ditch.

I've driven over one that was recently squished. My car stunk so bad it came in through the garage door into the house. Didn't know before I smelled it in my house and wondered what it was.

Leave it outside for a couple of days and it will be gone. The snow will actually help I'm sure.

we ran over one once but the smell didn't last too long. we just left the doors open over night (many years ago when this was safe) and the smell was gone in about 2 days.

Happened to me about 40 years ago. What I did was park my car in the center of the little town I lived in and had a friend give me a ride home. About a week later I went back and got the car and ran it through a car wash and the smell was almost gone.

I remember my Uncle telling me about the time a skunk ran under his truck and sprayed, he said it took forever to get the smell out of it. Good luck.

Yup I would say the wrong word was used in the original question. It should have been 'when' not 'how'.:rotfl:
