Snorkeling at/near Vero Beach?

Has anyone gone snorkeling at or near Vero Beach? I know my husband would love to go, but not if it's really dangerous (sharks? surf?) I would really appreciate any information you might have. (We're leaving on Saturday! )

Bathtub reef is quite far from VB, but it's protected and you do see fish. A few years ago we stayed at the Marriott on Hutchinson island which is right there, but we didn't know about the Bathtub Reef! Duh...now we know. I had fun, but don't think I would make the trip to it from VB very often.
