I was an assistant coach for travel baseball, and I guess it all fell in that 11-18 year old bracket. Like you, that included keeping “the book” during games.

Yes, I coached both my kids at some point in soccer. I coached both of them when they were “munchkins” (3-5 years old), then coached my older son’s U14 travel team and assistant coached my younger son’s U8 travel team.

Once they both progressed on to higher level clubs, they had paid coaches, not parents (at least of current players).

Now that both of them are past their playing days, I referee soccer. My way to help give back a little to the sport (plus stay in shape).

I’m going to push H more about reffing, he gets certified every year with ds22, but never signs up, he’s done a couple games when ds was just starting to make him more comfortable (ds26 reffed one game and was done, due to parents). When ds22 and dd22 (both varsity players, plus club) graduated HS it was like he was home all of the time in the evenings! 😂 Good exercise, fresh outdoors, plus he gets to watch soccer games.

I never coached......DD has coached baseball and soccer (which was her sport).
Now she is a "sidelines" coach for DGD's soccer team. Loud, but all her suggestions are good ones.
