In honor of our 8 1/2 year old Guinea Pig named Zoe, that passed away today, I decided to do a poll on these sweet little animals. Share with us today…….

Have you ever had a Guinea Pig?
If yes…..when?
If not…..has anyone in your family had a Guinea Pig?
(Multiple-choice)

For Me…… Little Zoe was my only guinea pig and technically she really wasn’t mine, she was DD21‘s. But since we all had a role with taking care of her, I do consider her ours. We bought her for DD21 in 2016 for her birthday and we all instantly fell in love with her. She bonded most with my husband, because he would go to the grocery store for her every week and buy her cucumbers and lettuce - the minute he would walk into the room she would squeak until he brought her something from the refrigerator. I always was the one that would clean her cage because I had a certain way of doing it, and being the OCD person that I am, I never wanted anyone else to do it. On Halloween we saw that something was wrong with her, and we knew that the end was near. At 8 1/2 years old, which is ancient for a guinea pig, we weren’t surprised when we saw this. Finally, a week later, she gave up her spirit. She is now at the rainbow bridge with our Sophie dog who passed away two years ago at 14 1/2 years old - they were BFFs. They can now run and play together again, like they used to, when I would let little Zoe run around the kitchen with Sophie. We are going to miss her very much.

Little Zoe ⬇️ with her BFF Sophie - hard to believe they’re both gone now.

So sorry to hear about your loss!

I have never had a guinea pig myself. My cousin has had a couple and we have friends who have had them.

Oh, I'm so sorry to hear about your loss, @slo

We (well, DS, but he was a kid at the time, so "we") had a guinea pig a few years ago, and it was tough when we lost him. His name was Freddie:

Aww...so sorry! No guinea pigs growing up or with the kids. However, we had a lot of teddy bear hamsters. I had three or four, and the kids each had one at some point. They were sweet, but didn't have the personality that guinea pigs seem to have.

Sorry for your loss. Our family never had them but DH's friends had them. So a tiny bit of experiencing via them when we went to check them while the friends were on vacation. A friend or a cousin might have had one growing up as well but I'm not too sure.

I'm so sorry for your loss. :( It's so tough losing our furry family members.

I had a guinea pig. HerHis name was Godiva. I thought he looked like a big blob of chocolate, but my mom felt he looked more like an eggplant. I have a pic somewhere that she took of him posing with an eggplant. When I bought him, I was told he was a female, but some things eventually developed to show us that was not the case. My mom nicknamed him Godivis to make him sound more masculine. 🤣 He was a summer acquisition during my college years that my parents wound up caring for while I was away. The vets loved him because of how much he talked and would often watch him for free when they traveled (since they were already taking the dog), but he was a little demon at home. He had skin problems and heart issue that took him before he turned 2. I had really hoped it would have been better. Both of my aunts had awesome guinea pigs.

We have had 3 guinea pigs over the years. We had 2 brothers that lived to be 5 and a girl that only lived to be 3. We now have a rabbit that is 7 years old. Small animals are a lot of work and once Ruby is gone I am done with small animals. I love them but so much work.

So sorry for the loss of both of your pets. :grouphug:

The only pets we have ever had at home were birds, no guinea pigs. I selected other though because it was a big thing when I was in elementary school for each classroom to have guinea pigs, so we all participated in taking care of them. I am allergic to furry pets, so having dogs, cats, guinea pigs, etc., was something we just couldn’t do.

We've never owned a guinea pig, but did briefly have my sister's class pet for a few days once.

Very sorry to hear this about your little Zoe, Sandy.'s Yes, always sad when our pets move on to the Rainbow Bridge. As you said though, Zoe is there now, romping and playing with her buddy Sophie, and so many others.

My best for you, Sandy, along with her best buddy, Kevin, and Katie. And yes, there are cucumbers and lettuce at the Bridge.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.

There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.

There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers.

Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge, together....

The kids begged for one so we relented and bought one and they had her for all of 2 months before we gave her to a veterinarian friend of ours because the kids had no interest in her and pretty much ignored her. DH was the one cleaning out the cage and playing with her. Now she’s living her best life in a guinea paradise living with other guinea pigs and people that love her.
