I enjoyed it for the lulls & waiting moments. I like watching Cooking, Neighbor Wars, Crafts, Decorating, DIY, Travel, Disney, ANIMALS, Bridezillas, a bit of gossip like the Baldoni/Lively war .... and getting first hand view from real people of things like the fires.

I never posted anything. I never bought anything. I have no profile info. I don't use my face as avatar. I did comment occasionally. I hate that they limit the number of blocks ~ we need more.

It's literally coming back up right as I type this lol What was that, like 14 hours?
Literal publicity stunt. If it were security we'd see the end of FB, IG, Twitter and more. Good grief our data is sold hourly by every company we deal with. We can't trust anything said as the excuse. Something was in it for someone.

And folks can plan on it being temporary as TT is still being "pressured" to sell the company. Just as I quit Twitter when it sold and became unsafe ... if TT sells it sounds like there is a good chance I will quit that too depending on buyer.

The internet has made our world much smaller, much more accessible, much more intertwined. The internet has overridden boundaries and borders. It is on each of us to choose where we are comfortable and feel safe, and using every tool to keep our accounts safe and secure.

Can someone explain how does one make money on tiktok/FB/ instagram etc. I do get sucked into the reels on FB from time to time, but just like with Disboards ads, I've never felt "on my, I must buy that shiny object".

Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe Tik Tok works just like YouTube. Content producers get paid based on how many people view their posts. And apparently for many, this is their job and where all their income comes from.

I don't know for sure but think there is an older thread that talks about that. I would assume the site knows how many followers you have and perhaps tracks how long people view your content/videos etc and there is some algorithm that does payouts. I assume their logic is by bringing in more people to their site for a longer period of time, they are more likely to see one of those popup ads selling something. I don't get it and it seems to me like a lot of smoke/mirrors just to be able to sell more ads at a higher price.

How the ads shown on any site results in more sales and/or how you can ever measure the 'effectiveness' of ads has always seemed like marketing voodoo to me...............LOL.

If it used by China as it is purported to, then I would say I am glad it was shut off for a few hours and may be in the future. I don't use it at all, same as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or similar sites. Since I don't use it, or others, I'm not sure what it has to offer over and above the others. Can't FB, IG, TW and many similar do the same? I do think, that since it's been stated that a particular individual likes it, it will not go away any time soon.

Yes, all the social media sites can gather data on you. TikTok is owned by a Chinese company so the Chinese government can force it to give them all the data it has. People are ignoring the fact that the US law wasn’t an outright ban, it was a requirement that it be sold to a non-Chinese company.

Agreed 100%. If you (general you, not you specifically) have been paying attention to this story, then the script was quite easy to read. I knew it would be back but not within 14 hours.

I don’t do Tic Tok, no interest in it. I’ve seen a few that DH wants me to see (from our son and brother-in-law) and think they are just annoying.

I've never had a TikTok account, but I do watch videos on Instagram, and I'm sure some of them were originally made for TikTok and simply shared on both platforms.

If it really does go away after the 90 day extension, I won't miss it personally, but I will feel bad for those who relied on it for income. (From what I understand, the pay scale is much higher for TikTok than for the same video on Instagram.)

I'm torn on how I feel about whether the app does more good or more harm overall. (Connecting and informing people vs. dangerous challenges, etc.)

I am not really sure if I ever viewed something from that site. Maybe if someone had sent me something from there, if that’s possible.

But it seems like there are a lot of people who enjoy using it. So while it doesn’t affect me personally all that much, I feel sorry for those that will miss it, should it eventually go away for good.

I never used the app and I’m not concerned that it was banned and now possibly restored.

I was upset when it was gone. I found a great support system on there after I was diagnosed with cancer. I live in a small area and while I do go to an in person support group, no one in that group has the same subtype as I do. On TikTok, I was able to find women around my same age that were going through the same thing as me at the same time. The video aspect made it more personableu than just reading. Yes there is a lot of garbage on there but one thing TikTok does great is learning your algorithm and showing only things you might be interested in.
