It‘s Friday the 13th and for some it’s an unsettling day :scared::eek: .

Friday the 13th is a superstition, and there’s many other superstitions - some are common and some have their own private superstition.

Which superstitions listed do you stay away from doing or do?
There’s way too many to list, so please answer “other” for ones not listed and please post your answer.
(multiple choice)

For Me…..I’m not a believer in superstitions, but since they’ve been drilled into all our minds our entire life, I do hesitate to open an umbrella inside, walk under a ladder, schedule something special on Friday the 13th. I will pick up a penny and say to myself, “find a penny pick it up and all the day you’ll have good luck“. I say, “fingers crossed” and cross my fingers all the time - come to think of it, I sent a PM to WDWEPCOT today with that in it - LOL! I also will knock on wood when talking about different situations. Even though I don’t believe in the superstitions they are kinda fun.

Is a general rule I do believe in them to a certain extent but with that being said I have flown on Friday the 13 but I usually have bad luck on Saturday the 14th so go figure
But I do not like to open an umbrella in the house and will not walk underneath the ladder
I have owned several black cats
There’s just way too many list so I think this day causes bad luck no it’s a mindset but I agree it’s been drilled into our heads I know my mother had hundreds of these things she spout them out of her mouth night and day - for some strange reason she had a bunch of them that had to do with women’s monthly’s
The history behind this day is very interesting though

I don't believe in them.
But, I don't open an umbrella in the house. No reason to.
I have had black cats.
I'm running errands today

Like you, Slo, I don’t really believe in them, but sometimes participate in things like knocking on wood.

Funny how these things are passed along from previous generations - although I can’t say that I really pay attention to many of them. Not Opening an umbrella in the house just seems like common sense - so I could go with that …

I always knock on wood. I don’t open an umbrella indoors and I won’t walk under a ladder, if I can help it. My mother would never put a pair of new shoes on a table and I don’t do that either. I just can’t. 😁

The only superstition I use is "knock on wood". Otherwise, I don't pay attention to any of the other common ones. I consider Friday the 13th a "lucky" day because my mom was born on a Friday the 13th. :)

Some useless info: Oddly in some countries (Ireland for one) black cats are lucky.

Bonus useless info - Avoiding even numbers with garnishes in drinks - so one or three olives in a martini - two is bad luck. Coffee beans in Sambuca always 1, 3 or 7 - never an even number

I do knock on wood sometimes and always pick up pennies (more because it's free money than superstition).

We do open umbrellas in the house sometimes because they dry faster that way.

I always say or type "knock on wood". I don't pick up pennies if their tales are up and I don't walk under ladders.

I've given up on the black cat one as my neighbor across the street has two very black cats with beautiful yellow eyes. They're always running across the street and into my yard.

Side note.....my oldest DS was born on a Friday the 13th.

No superstitions here. I don’t walk under ladders because it’s stupid to do so.

I might open an umbrella inside just before heading outside, and if I break a mirror I’d just clean it up. No negative consequences.

But I won’t step on a crack in a sidewalk. ;)

I’m generally not superstitious. Friday the 13th doesn’t bother me, and I think it’s silly when tall buildings “don’t have” a 13th floor.

When I was a kid, I did some things just for fun, that I learned mostly from other kids, like not stepping on sidewalk cracks. I was taught that “pennies from heaven” are signs from a loved one who has passed, which I’m not sure I believe, but it’s a nice sentiment. And we always had black cats as pets, because my mom would pick them from the shelter as the most unwanted ones.

I can be a little superstitious. I don't walk under ladders, I pick up a penny (heads or tales), I do think breaking a mirror is bad luck (and a mess), and I knock on wood all the time.

I also wear specific clothing when my teams makes the playoffs. Sadly, it has been a while since I have done that.

I participate in some of them, but I don't really believe they affect any sort of outcome. (I don't walk under ladders. That seems dangerous. I do pick up pennies and knock on wood.)
