Disney Skyliner Refurb 2025

If it were me and this was causing worry and stress, I'd just go ahead and switch to a resort where it won't matter.
Why do that to yourself when there's an alternative.
Mostly because we're traveling with friends, and they wanted to stay at Riviera.
I still have a few weeks. If I get to 31 days out, that's the real dilemma -- do I assume I'm in the clear, or do we switch just to be safe?

If your friends are cool with staying there even if you have to take busses everywhere, then you figure out what's most important to you: staying in the location with your friends or YOU change to another resort you'll be happy with and just meet up with your friends at the parks, restaurants, etc.

I appreciate the advice, but this is a trip together and we wish to stay with them, and honestly our plans were predicated on being at Riviera and the World Showcase entrance to Epcot especially (we’re mostly doing the Festival of Arts). Obviously we can make it work, but it’s not as ideal a location for our plans — unless of course the Skyliner is down. The other thing is that Poly would cost us significantly more points to stay there, and while I do have the points, we have some big family trips planned next fall (we do Thanksgiving in WDW with my husbands family every other year), so I’d rather bank the points to use then borrow in.

I’m just hoping we hear soon and that it is not over MLK weekend.

I am going around this time. End of January and early February.
Staying at CBR and two days at POP. Both are on the skyliner path.

If they are down for refurb, I’ll just do a Lyft or Uber. Last time we went we decided to do just this at the end of night and it was a godsend.

There is always a way there and back, it just may not what is preferred, but the ride share sometimes gets the job done

The busses at Pop are ran like a machine. I was there last week and we did a lot of MK and AK days. I was shocked at the frequency and speed. One MK bus was pulling away and then another pulled right up. So I’m thinking if the skyliner is down, they will have a similar bus system in place for all parks!

We stayed one time at Art of Animation and were also very impressed with the efficiency of loading the buses. The cast members at the bus stops were very good about loading the buses. We love our PO resorts for the theming, but the buses at the spread out resorts with multiple stops can be a bit of a hassle due to the fact that there are not cast members monitoring each stop.

I’m slow…. What do you mean by this?
Conspiracy theories.

If you’re traveling in Jan, beware there could be a Skyliner refurb. Since they haven’t announced a date yet I speculate Feb could be in play as well so I’d keep an eye out for that month too, once they post the dates it will be all over the blogs. If you’re concerned just book two reservations as Disney doesn’t care if you hold two reservations.

Disney has some of the most lax cancellation policies in the industry- and if you reschedule they don’t even hit you for those.
Reschedule, ok. Cancel, they most likely will hit you. It is just really odd with thier timing this year for the announcement.

It is very easy to reschedule far enough out (more than 30 days), and then cancel with no penalty. Guests have been doing this for decades and decades. This is not a vast conspiracy and I am not sure why you keep implying that Disney is trying to pull a fast one on a large number of guests.

They may not be, but I'm skeptical. It could be something else, but it does seem odd.

I totally agree, we had to cancel twice, once under 30 days and once a week out, and never was charged any fee, and this is from someone that has no problem pointing out the MANY WDW flaws, but this is not one of them. There was even a time when we had car troubles and did not arrive until a day after check-in and they did not charge us for the 1st night:)
Not to mention that if you know there is a chance it may be down and you do not change and gamble, to me, that's on you. WDW offers a lot of resorts, so it's not like you are stuck with that one.

Im booked January 22-26 and will not switch, closure or not. Busses are fine at Pop. It’s just so strange the announcement hasn’t happened yet.

Disney Dave, are you saying that Disney doesn’t plan a major maintenance disruption like the Skyliner refurb more than 30 days out? That’s either gross incompetence or, like the PP said, a conspiracy to lock guests into a reservation they would otherwise change/cancel. Neither is a good look. These dates should be posted 11+ months prior every year so that those of us in DVC can plan around them also. Forget the resort reservations, you’re talking airline, car service, pet boarding, and everything else that needs to be changed when you change dates or locations.

Not to mention our points go into holding at the 30 day mark if we cancel. I’m rapidly coming to the point where I need to make a decision, as we’ll be 31 days out on 12/16. We want it to be at Riviera with the convenience of the Skyliner for our plans, especially as it’ll cost us fewer points than our alternative at Polynesian.
