Hi all, my family and I are flying out of Tampa on our last day as the prices are so much cheaper than MCO. I was going to rent a car on our last day from the Disney Car Care Center, but I came across a rental company called SIXT where you pickup the car from the Hyatt Regency for super cheap...it was like $50/day for a full size SUV. Does anyone have any experience renting from SIXT...I've never heard of them before and wanted to see if anyone has experience before I book it! thanks so much!!

I used them in Denver. The only issue I had was the trunk area was full of dog hair-the car wasn't clean. I ended up stopping at a dollar tree to get a lint roller to clean it out. Pricing was fine. Nothing extra, everything was up front, and no pressure to buy incidentals. I would use them again but would check the inside of the vehicle closer before departure.

We used Sixt exclusively for years when it was a shuttle from MCO. The payoff for a short reliable shuttle ride was getting much nicer vehicles. Brand new BMWs and Mercedes for the same price of low entry SUVs inside MCO.

Once they opened inside MCO the prices were no longer competitive. The past 5 years we found better deals elsewhere 9 out of 10 trips. For our next trip Sixt inside MCO finally came back down in pricing so we booked them for next month.

They are a great company to work with - just the pricing had gone crazy for a while there.

I travel and rent cars frequently in various cities and have used most rental companies. I used Sixt once, never again. Great car, great price…then after the fact they tried to charge me for damage. The “damage” was low tire pressure. In the end they dropped it after I didn’t roll over but it caused unnecessary stress. Google tells me this is common practice with Sixt. Avoid!

Yeah, ya know t’s funny because I was thinking about this aspect too. In those 9 out of 10 times we used companies not-Sixt, we had 3 issues. Budget charged us double at the counter by the time they tacked on a bunch of extra charges from the deal we booked through UndercoverTourist, so we said Budget (and UT) never again. Enterprise rented us a not-cheap vehicle category that ended up not having AC, and in high humidity rain made it dangerous and uncomfortable to drive, we went out of our way to exchange and 2 different locations didn’t have any stock for the category we needed after they told us to go to them. Alamo, my last experience in Feb 2023 - they tried their best to pin an existing crack in the windshield on me. I took pictures on pickup but didn’t even notice it. Fortunately I did notice later and took pics from inside vehicle. That pointed me where to look in our original photos to find the crack existing at pickup… but I can easily see how this would’ve been pinned on us if not for vigilance on our part.

We’ve used Sixt at MCO about 10 times now and never an issue. The one time I thought would end up a nightmare - drunk driver smashed into us and wrecked the side of Sixt brand new Mercedes - all we had to do was hand them the police report and they took care of everything with zero involvement from us. I figured it was either going to cost us a bunch of time or money, and it was neither. They didn’t even ask for my personal insurance details.

But I do wonder if experience with certain rental companies depends on location to some degree, where some places are managed much better than others. The thing with Sixt was we never got a vehicle that wasn’t in new condition. Always in tip top shape. But I’ve only ever used Orlando location.

This topic gives me stress. I only rent from the majors and avoid the smaller rental companies. But... maybe the experience would be different renting from a kiosk at a hotel???

Since we typically only use the car to transport us from the airport, with a side trip to the local grocery store, I almost always rent from Enterprise, Alamo or National and then return the car to the Disney Car Care Center a day later. This way there are no hassles returning it and Disney will shuttle you back to your hotel. It costs a little more since it isn't a round trip back to MCO, but then I am not paying for a ride to the hotel.

Sixt is a major rental player, just not in the US. I wouldn't have a problem renting from them, but their prices have always been either the same or a little higher than what I could get from one of the US majors where I don't have to go to the counter. In my research on them I found that, at least when they first moved into MCO, they took the typical German line of finding and charging for every scratch on the vehicle. That may have changed, but would still be my concern.
