Are these parks different enough that it's worth it to visit both? We have GA season passes, and can easily go to Baltimore for a weekend..just curious to know if it will be worth the trip..

I live in the Baltimore area and I've never been to Six Flags America. Personally I don't think it's worth driving 20 minutes to get there let alone coming here from out of state.

But like I said I've never been there so this is just based on hearing things from other people I know.

We live about 30 minutes from Six Flags America. We had season passes last summer and went quite a few times. The theme park itself is pretty small. If I remember correctly there are 4 metal coasters, 2 wooden coasters, a few water rides and a couple spinning rides. They have a great variety of kids rides if you have small children. Overall it wouldn't be worth a specific trip, but would make a good side trip if you were coming to tour DC.

We took a one week trip last summer to Philadelphia and visited Six Flags Great Adventure. It is technically in NJ but is very near Philadelphia. That was a much bigger and much better Six Flags in our opinion. More coasters and rides for adults and bigger kids, but still quite a few kids rides. They also have a drive through Safari that had great animals to view as you drive through. A giraffe came right up to our car and looked down into our sunroof. It would make a great day trip from a Philadelphia vacation.

If you are choosing between the two, Great Adventure is a much more thrill filled park (more similar to Six Flags in Atlanta). Both have water parks too, but we never went to either so I can't add anything about that part of the parks. I don't know that I would make a specific trip for either, but if I was making a trip to either DC or Philly anyway, it would be worth a day's visit.

When we last had SF passes in '09, we visited both SF New England and SF America. (Our "home" park is Great Adventure). I would agree that SF America is not worth a special trip, but if we were planning to go to DC anyway, it would be worth a visit. SF Great Adventure is LARGE and FYI, unlike most of the other SF parks, Hurricane Harbor (the waterpark) is a separate admission. We have never been to HH in NJ but we have passes this year which include both parks.

FYI, the Six Flags in New England is absolutely charming and we enjoyed it so much when we went in June of '09 that we drove 1.5 hours to return a month later during our vacation in upstate NY. We already have a hotel booked to go there once this summer and will probably do that a second time. (It's about a 3 hour drive for us).

If was me I would with Six Flags over Georgia because they got variety of rides for everyone.

I would not Six Flags Great America if they paid go. I all seen was coasters and more coasters. The food was awful. I am not picky at all.

We did SF New England (as it's the closest to us) and it was fantastic. I was skeptical being a Disney girl, but we had a blast. And, Hurricane Harbor is part of the admission fee. We did two days there, spending one day mainly doing the coasters, and the second day doing the water park.!

It really was so much fun! However, it is my only SF experience. My sister and BIL went to the one in NJ and loved it...esp. the safari.

Six Flags Great Adventure, in NJ, is huge, and also has the drive thru animal park. I think the coasters are better than Cedar Point.

The problem is the LINES. Sadly they can stretch to over 2 hours long. For one ride.

The 2nd problem can be the clientele. I live in the next town over. But G.A. has many people who come in on bus trips. Many are teens, or tweens, and they are roaming the park unsupervised. It is not like Disney, where most kids are with their families. This can lead to some unpleasant behavior on their part, they can be loud, use foul language (loudly), get into fights (loudly), cut ride lines, wear the most skimpy clothing imaginable.

That said, the park is large, the coasters are amazing. :thumbsup2

Great Adventure was empty today. 0 - 5 minute waits for almost everything, even Kingda Ka. I usually go in April, May, early June and September to avoid crowds and won't go in July, August and Saturdays and Sundays in October.

If you have Great Adventure season passes and go regularly, you'd be disappointed with America. I'd say it's not worth the trip, IMO. Maybe try the New England one-- that one is alright. I've been to many Six Flags, and I really think GA is the best!
