I was wondering if anyone had every used one of these (at Disney or elsewhere), and if really works and is worth the price? I overheat very easily (almost had a heat stroke three years ago, and since then I'm very heat sensitive), and am trying to find something that would be more effective than the little water bottle fan mister things (which I have used with mixed success).

I figured someone here would have some advice one way or the other!

You can see the gizmo online at http://www.sharperimage.com/us/en/catalog/productdetails/sku__SI758SL2.

Thanks in advance!

Hello,
I haven't used them, but I have used the MistyMate (which I bought on EBay). It's not one of the fans, it is a small bottle that you add water to, pump out the air, and when you turn the little knob, a continuous mist flows and it really helps keep you cool. There's even a clip on it to attach to your shirt or shorts or whatever to hold the mister head in place in order to receive continuous cooling.

When you add the water and pump the air out, you turn the knob and you can get continous mist for about ten minutes. Then you repump it to get more mist.
It is SO MUCH better than the fans, which emit much thicker mist and you have to squeeze in order to get misted.
The MistyMate can even mist your face without smudging or running your make-up, it is such a fine mist.

If you want to spend a little and get a wonderful helpful cooling experience, try it. Check them out on EBay. They're too expensive when purchasing them from mistymate.com
Good Luck!
P.S. This helped us so much when we visited in July - even with the humidity in the air, the mist cooled us down and we were comfortable.

P.P.S. I just checked it out on your link.....that looks nice, but I would only buy it with a recommendation. I'd love to hear how it works, too...

I had looked into this before as I get really overheated down here in FL, especially when mowing the grass, and thought this would be perfect for that :goodvibes but I was scared off by some of the reviews I found. For example on Amazon, there were a few good reviews but most were like these:

Poor Review # 1:DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. for people living in the hot desert, or even sunny florida, This is NOT the product you want.

It surely delivers some cool feeling the first 2 minutes you put it on (only because of the cold water not the equipment), but it wears off rapidly. If you are in real need of coldness, then I suggest wearing a wet towel or bandana, and stay properly hydrated. You wont look as dumb as if wearing a big noticeable collar and look different than everyone else.

This product would work better if it only had more cold generative power for hot temperatures.

If a product you see advertised seems too good to be true, it probably is. The Personal Cooling System doesn't live up to its claims.

If you're reading this you are doing the same thing I did. Check out what other people who bought the product had to say. The problem is that some reviews are actually favorable! You want to believe the favorable ones. If it works as advertised -wow! Sadly, no way. Now, I won't say that the favorable reviews were written by employees who work for Sharper Image, or the ad company that put together the commercial, but I can't think of what else could explain the favorable reviews.

Bottom line... It didn't come close. The fan, powered by a single double A battery, was so weak that even if the cooling moisture they promised had been generated I wouldn't have felt it. While the fit wasn't uncomfortable, all it did was make my neck sweaty. You'd be better off with the wet towel they suggest in their promo.

Do not buy this product unless you keep the receipt for an exchange. Luckily I did.

Plain and simple...this product does not work....I have tested it under moderate weather conditions.....doesn't even work with temps in the 70s or 80s. A pure case of over-hype..underperform. I don't know how much Sharper Image paid those people in their infomercial to laud the product...but I hope a lot. I will be returning the product at my earliest convenience. I wholeheartedly recommend a large washcloth soaked in ice.

This cooling system has a good advertise on it from Sharper Image. However, in reality, it does not give you any cool feeling at all. Please do not buy this toy or you will start kicking your wall after you receive it (like me!!). I'll try to return it if I still could.

My son and I both tried this "personal cooling system."
The fit was not comfortable. It pressed on various nerves and tender parts and was impossible to forget it was on.
The cooling effect is a joke. Although it appears to have seven openings in the air outlet, actually only two of them are open. The cool breeze is barely noticeable. What little there was aimed more at the base of the skull rather than the back of the neck. It failed to penetrate my son's hair (very short) or mine (pinned up).
We are back to wrapping our necks and heads in wet towels. The effect doesn't last as long but it's a lot cooler and a whole lot cheaper!
Needless to say, I'm returning this device.

And from epinions:
Pros: none
Cons: Useless, makes you feel clamy, and expensive.

Living in an unairconditioned dorm, I bought the personal cooling system in hopes of surviving the summer months. If anything it actually makes you feel worse. I put it on for about five minutes and I felt clamy, just as hot, and pretty dumb looking for wearing this monster. On top of that this thing is expensive and mine broke.

Please repost if you get one and actually like it! :sunny:

If you're looking for something to cool you down, I have a friend who is making cooling neck ties in Disney fabric. They really do feel great!

PM me for her info if you are interested.

PS: I also like the Mistymates and am looking forward to using ours on our trip next month.

Thanks for all the quick responses! I had a feeling it was one of the "too good to be true" claims, and y'all have just solidified that feeling! I'll be checking out those neck ties, thanks for the leads! I have a misty mate, and I agree that it definately works better than the spray fan, but I find that it can be kinda awkward to carry along with my camera, pins, etc, so I was looking for something different...but, when all else fails, stick with what works, eh?

Thanks again!

I use to work at Sharper Image and that was the one thing i hated selling. They always came back...do not buy it. It's a little thing that goes on the back of your neck that has a "fan" on the back but it doesn't really work do not waste your money on it. It works just as good to take a cold rag with you. Trust me! I hope it helps!

The store rep advised me against that device and showed me the mini misty mate instead. They were on sale for $7.95, and have a caribeaner (sp?) clip that makes them PERFECT. They are little, but powerful and worked great for our 8/1-8/4 trip just this past week. Bought three, used two between the 3 of us...and they are still working perfectly for future trips!

I'd say...do the little misty mate instead. It's so much more portable than that larger bottle...and much lighter than that personal cooling device!

Not sure if these are going to work but I bought some Little Fevers Cooling Cloths at BabiesRUs. They were on clearance for 2.80 a box, which contains 20 individually wrapped cloths. The box indicates "Temporarily relieves heat discomfort and feeling hot." They are made with witch hazel, aloe and chamomile. Once again, not sure how well they will work, but worth a try. Should be easier to fit in a backpack also.

Don't waste your money those things are AWFUL! :sad2:
What's awful? The mini-misty mates or the personal cooling system?

Also, you purchased the mini-Misty Mate at Sharper Image or somewhere else?
I'm looking at them right now on Ebay and the prices sure to differ! If I can get them for $7.95, that would save a lot of money!

The mini misty mates are the ones I used and thought they worked great - this was last week, it was HOT, they were great. Small, compact, powerful and perfect. I bought them at Sharper Image, for $7.95.

I wouldn't carry the water bottle thing because I already have a mini pack on my back, and that's enough for me! When it's hot, I just can't carry stuff like a pack mule!
