Hi.

This is my first time posting, but I have lurked for about a year and got tons of great info for our trip this past May, when we stayed in the cabins at Fort Wilderness.

We are looking at returning in April 2005 and would like to try the Contemporary. My 6 year old son is begging to stay in "the hotel the monorail goes through"! If we stay there we would really want to have a room he can view the monorail from.

Here are my questions:

If we stay in the wings are there any rooms that will give us a view of the monorail? Am I correct to assume the MK view rooms in the tower have great views of the monorail?

Thanks for any help/info you can give me!

No views of the monrail in the tower - great views of the MK (Seven Seas Lagoon) or Bay Lake.

now when you walk out of your room - wait - I think you can see the shops. - I think the monrail is hidden. You need to be on 4 or 5 or 6 to see the monrail on the Bay Lake side.

I know where your son's coming from. That was exactly my feeling when I saw WDW on television back in 1971 or so. And this past February, I finally got to stay there.

From the MK view rooms, you can see the monorail from your balcony as it approaches and leaves the building. But if you step just outside your door, you can look straight down on it as it passes through the concourse. (You can also watch the doings at Chef Mickeys, which is also fun.)

From the Bay Lake view rooms, you can't see it at all from the balcony, but you can look across the concourse and get a nice view of it from just outside your door.

With the wings, the lake view rooms won't see the monorail at all, but the standard view rooms, facing the parking lot, should let you see the trains when they're outside the building.

Hope this is helpful.

(Have you been inside the Tower building, so that you know how it''s laid out? Or would a description be helpful?)

Thanks.

My goal is be able to have him see it from our room as it approaches and leaves the building.

I guess I need to try to avoid a bay lake view in the tower or the wing.

Is the tower really worth the extra $?

Hard to say if it will be "worth it". I can only tell you that it was definitely worth it for me, since it was something I'd wanted to do for more than 30 years.

You'll find a lot of folks who find the Contemporary somewhat "sterile", and unthemed. For me, its value as an icon of WDW will always make it special. I *really* enjoyed sitting on my balcony at night and in the morning, looking out over the lagoon, and watching as WDW went to bed and then woke up the next morning.

And I enjoyed standing in the hall just outside the door, taking in this huge cavern, watching the monorails come and go, watching all the fun down at Chef Mickeys, looking out the huge windows at either end of the building.

If this is the kind of thing that would really make a difference to your son, that might make it worthwhile by itself. But only you can decide that.

Do keep an eye out for discounts, although discounts for Tower rooms seem to be harder to come by than they are at other resorts. Your best bet might be to book as soon as you decide to stay there and ask if a AAA rate is available. (Those come out well in advance, while other discounts may or may not appear later.)

There's a chance you would have a monorail view from a wing room, but it wouldn't be guaranteed, and I didn't find the wings very interesting. The tower just has the "cool factor" going for it.

If you decide to go with the tower, request MK view, and "as high up as possible". When I checked in, early in the morning, I told the lady at the desk that I was ready for the room that had been waiting for me for 30 years. I don't know if was my enthusiasm or not, but I ended up on the 11th floor, which is as high as you can go for a "normal" room.

And before I say any more - welcome, and enjoy!

Yes, i thought the tower room was worth the extra $. I felt that MK was in my backyard. I felt like our hotel was in MK. Being in the tower brings you closer to the monorail loop. Door to door--10 minutes to MK. I too saw MK close up at night--awesome. It was an experience never to be forgotten.

People do say at times that they feel CR is not themed....i dont see that. It is bright, light , friendly, big and it was Walt's dream. It reeks of DISNEY!!! I found the Poly dark and gloomy---to each their own but i'll take CR tower.

As for the rooms facing the monorail and so forth, i can't help you. I'm sure others will.

We booked a AAA rate and waited for codes to come out. I was lucky enough to get one but there aren't many available. Good luck in your decision.
