I understand the normal tipping scale and adding more or less as seen appropriate.

My question is if we use room service.... do you tip with cash? Do you add it later when you do all of your tipping?

What is the recommended approach?

We have always tipped when the order was delivered to our cabin. We purposely take some $1 bills to have on hand just for this or when needed have had larger bills exchanged at Guest Services desk.

I've been told you can ask for the room slip and charge the tip to your room but you have to ask in general as mostly they will assume you will pay in cash

Room service tipping is not an option as part of the slips and envelopes you hand out on the last night. We just take an envelope of $1 bills to use as we need them for tipping room service.

Ok... I get it, pack singles....

How much do you tip for room service? We have been on 4 cruises and never used room service.

Fantasy, here we come!

We tip $1 per person in the room. So, for our family of 4, $4 per room service delivery.

It depends on what/how much you order. If you just order a couple of things - a couple of dollars. If you order a whole meal for several people - maybe around $5 or more.

For a meal I tip $5 per person, so up to $20 for our family.

You can pay in cash, or charge to your room.

Breakfast $2pp

We usually just get Mickey Bars a couple times each cruise. We give them $1 per person. After the first time they started bringing us an extra each time so I guess they weren't unhappy with us.

I only tip 1-2 bucks per delivery - 5 bucks max depending on how much stuff they bring.

I usually tip $2-$5 depending on how much we order. If we were to order full meals for the 3 of us I would probably tip a bit more.

I hate having to keep cash on hand for room service, so I always ask to sign the slip and have the charge added to our onboard account. A few times I have been given the slip without asking, but for the most part I have had to request it. I just let them know that I would like to sign the slip so that I can add a tip for them.

$2-$5 we never really order a lot though. maybe two plates of food? anymore than 2 plates we give $4-5

I tipped with cash. $2 each time. We used room service at least 7 times in 5 days. :rotfl2: It's amazing!

I took an envelope with singles in them. We only ordered coffee and donuts...

Really???

Get the All-Hands-On-Deck-Platter and the 4-cheese pizza. This is great to go along a glass of wine while we get ready for the show (we do 2nd seating). BTW, if you bring your own bottle, they will gladly give you wine glasses and a bottle opener as well.

I try to get about a dollar an item. Remember that sodas (they come in cans) and snacks are not free.

This is what I read and followed before we went on our first cruise earlier this year. It seemed reasonable to me.

Wow! I didn't know you had to tip for room service! :confused3:worried: I will be traveling in a few short months on DCL for the first time ever, so I'm trying to be as best prepared. I've traveled in various cruise lines, and always used room service because I considered it part of the cruise fair, but I've never tipped and never had an ugly face from anyone, or seen anyone expect money. Have I've been in the wrong all these years? or was it ok? Just worried now that maybe I've come out looking like a cheap-steak!:(:worried:

You don't have to tip room service. It's your call. On DCL room service is not included in the gratuities. I know that on some other cruise lines they are.

Unlike those other lines where the gratuities are added to your onboard account, the addition of DCL gratuities to your onboard account is merely a service (you don't have to tip any one on DCL, if that's what you want). On some other lines you cannot reduce/remove the added gratuities, on DCL you can.

And, on DCL, those gratuities are earmarked for specific people (unlike other lines where the amounts are pooled and divided by percentages to the various service people - including the behind the scenes personnel). The gratuities on DCL are charged to your onboard account in the amount of $12.00 per each person in your room (each guest) per day. That $12.00 breaks out to $4.00 per guest per day to your room host; $4.00 per guest per day to you dining room server; $3.00 per guest per day to your assistant server; and $1.00 per guest per day to your head server.

Ok... I'm trying to get this correct. This morning I prepaid my gratuities through my TA. I paid a total of $192 for four night/four people. I assumed that this would go to the waiters and the room cleaning/service. Who is it that I need to tip aside from the standard 12 bucks a day. Now I'm soo confused.

The $192 covers your room host and your dining service team (server, asst server, and head server).

The only additional tipping that you MIGHT do (if you want) would be to the porters at the terminal (if you use them), excursion guides/drivers, room service. As well as the servers in the adult dining venues, if you go there.

Any beverages (hard or soft) purchased onboard will have an auto-gratuity of 15% added. Spa services have an auto-gratuity of 18%.

The auto-gratuity on the beverage services is pooled and shared by all beverage service personnel. If you wish, you can tip additionally in cash in the bars/lounges. Any cash tips go directly (and only) to the person you are tipping.
