so the mugs they will give us at the resort. I know they will not work at the parks. I'm also aware I can get a free cup of water at eating locations. my question is will they refill the mugs for me with water so I don't have to ask for 4-5 cups per person?

I cup of water won't do jack to hydrate me in the florida sun!

You can certainly ask.

What many do is get the free water and pour it into whatever portable container they carry.

I think the resort mugs are really too bulky to carry around the parks.

No.

They will not refill Guests' personal containers at the CS locations because of health regulations.

no they will not refill your mugs.
they will give you a cup of water.
the resort mugs really don't hold that much that you could fit 5 cups of water in them anyways.
also they are very bulky.
my advice is to leave the mugs.
take a water bottle and refill at water fountains.
if you're dehydrated water fountain water will taste just fine.
if it doesn't then i'd say you're not dehydrated and don't need more than one cup at a QS location.

I carry mine on a carbiner and ask for two cups. My family drinks the water and we put the ice in the mug. We can refill at water fountains for a couple hours and have cold water. They will give you as many as you want.

We use a wide mouthed bottle and top up with any left over water and ice from my free CS water. The resort mugs are too likely to leak for me to be comfortable using them in the parks. I prefer something with a proper seal.

I like to bring the resort mug into the park in the morning. I also bring a large plastic bag to put the mug in when I'm done with it. It is often convenient to have that mug when I return to the resort from the park, because then I can fill it up before returning to the room. I'll also pour any leftover drinks from lunch into the mug.

They won't take your mug from you and fill it at the dispenser. That is (I believe) against health code.

They will happily hand you the cups of ice water, as many as you want. The cups are about the same size as the mug, so I'm not sure I understand your comment about the mug working better than 4-5 cups of water per person.

Ask for a really large cup of water or get a lot of them. You're not limited to 1 cup per person when you walk up.

They always gave us a large cup of ice water. It was larger than the resort mugs but I would put the leftover ice in the resort mug. Many rides that don't allow drinks will let you walk in with the resort mig but not the paper cups with lids

Very true they won't fill up any personal container (even one they sell) at a counter. At one time, there were refillable mugs at Animal Kingdom and my husband's aunt got one. This was back in 2005 or so and this woman on the trip made this the worst Disney World trip ever so it's why I remember what happened :). After she first complained about the cost of the mug, she proceeded to slurp down the beverage and proclaim that she now had her souvineer for the trip and she could enjoy more stuff for free! When she went to get her refill, she just handed over the mug and the server said "you can keep the mug with you as I have to give you the refill in a paper cup". And then happily handed over a paper cup with the beverage. The aunt went ballistic on us as she wanted the beverage in the mug and not in a paper cup! I just politely said, "then pour it in there yourself". I can tell you that was one of the most polite conversations she and I had during that trip.

The mug is more of a pain then just asking for some water - you have to babysit it on rides and while your waiting for something...

I suppose if you have a stroller or purse...two things which I lack :/

This is so true. I have so many from past trips that I still use for my coffee going to work in the mornings. They are a hassle to Carry in the park. Not worth the trouble
