Question for those who have a WestJet credit card

So last year when we got our companion voucher we got one where all we had to pay for the companion flight were the taxes. The $119 (I think that’s what it’s at now) was waived.

Anyone have any idea about what we will get when we get our voucher for this year? Will it be one where we have to pay the $119 plus taxes, or another special one?

Did you get the card last year and it was your first companion voucher? My husband for his card last year during a promotion where he got the companion voucher for free. I'm assuming this year we'll have to pay for it.

I believe you will get another companion flight when your card has it's anniversary or yearly fee renewal. That's when ours was added onto our card.

The question wasn’t when the next one will be available, but if they’ll be waiving the fees (other than taxes) associated with it.

Yes I know that. Last year though they gave a “special voucher” where it didn’t have the extra charge (just had to pay taxes). I’m wondering if they will do that again this year or not.

We did not get one of those. Maybe it was for only a select criteria of people

I think that was just a limited time. I have 3 vouchers in my account. I just used my “free” one for our current trip so have two left. The remaining ones are the usual ones that cost money.
Maybe they will offer another freebie again? Hard to say. But haven’t heard anything about that at this time.

I’m asking cause I’m up for renewal the beginning of March and I’m debating keeping the card. It sucks paying the annual fee and then also paying for the companion ticket (when we don’t know if we will even get to use it).

What bank are you with? I am with RBC and they pay my yearly fee. Because I have the Cc with them, a mortgage, etc they wanted to keep my business so they just pay it yearly. Doesn’t hurt to ask?

Is that what the "special" voucher is? I could not tell by the statement. We got our WJ RBC Mastercard in Feb 2020. How's that for timing? Both our vouchers are going to expire without us having a chance to use anything

You don’t pay for the voucher until you book the flight.

Yes I know that. But I would pay the annual fee if I keep the card. That’s what I’m debating, if it’s worth it to keep the card.

I got the “special” voucher last March (also a cardholder for many years. When my husband got his renewal cert last July, it was just the regular one with the fees.

I had three or 4. Used one and had to pay $99.00 plus taxes as i5 was grandfathered in under the old amount.
