Anyone ever ordered a special occasion cake (like a wedding cake) from Publix? We want to get a special cake for my birthday in Oct. but I think that many of the cakes from the Disney bakeries are very overpriced. I've heard Publix bakery is very good for cakes but haven't had anything like that from them. I figured since we will be doing our grocery shopping there anyway it might be a good idea to get it from Publix. (I'm not too particular about having some big ceremony around getting the cake itself. We can have a little party in our villa.)

I was looking at this one but I would only get two layers and I would hope to get more of a blue backgroud with cream/white shells and maybe a seahorse :)

When we lived in SC, I had Publix do my wedding cake....now it was 13 years ago (this coming Tuesday!), but they did a beautiful basketweave design cake, that was 3 layers for around $125 I added my own flowers on the top. I still miss Publix!! (we left SC 12 years ago).

The cake in the picture is beautiful and I'm sure the changes that you want would be beautiful too!

P.S. I'm your neighbor...I live about 20 min west of the Pittsburgh airport!

Publix does the most amazing cakes. They taste so gooooood. It's the only place we buy our cakes from. The whipped topping is amazing.

Funny....we were just talking about our wedding cake the other day. It was from Publix, and it was GREAT-tasting and beautiful.

It was about $125 (this was 24 years ago) and served 125.

Our wedding cake was also from Publix 15 years ago. But we will not buy our birthday cakes from anywhere besides Publix!

Publix is the BEST. We live in Orlando and I had Publix do the cake for my 3 year old's Mickey birthday party. It was AMAZING and cost me (seriously, I'm not kidding) $51!!!! They said it fed 25-30 and it was amazing. I talked to the head baker at the store near our house, so if you know where you are staying now I would find the nearest store and call and speak to the head decorator in the mornings (they work early). I wish I could figure out how to upload a photo here!

Thanks for all the feedback! I have heard lots of good stuff about Publix bakery so that is what made me think of it for this. Any suggestions for flavors (I was thinking of maybe getting a different flavor for each of the two tiers if they will allow it.)

I really want a beachy type cake and the Publix cake seems very close to what I want. It reminds me of one I saw a few years ago over on the restaurant board. It was extremely expensive thru Disney. This is that cake

On their website they ask for 4 weeks notice for the wedding cakes. I think I will give them a call to talk over what I am looking for. If I can do it for $150 or less I will be so happy! (On a side note, I hated my wedding cake so ever since then I have wanted to get a beautiful cake for some special occasion. My 40th birthday seems like the perfect occasion for it :) )

We use Publix for all of our cakes- so delicious! I usually get the white/vanilla cake because everyone likes it, but if you like chocolate cake theirs is the best! They have a few different choices for fillings- we like the chocolate pudding one- yum!!

We order all of our cakes for Publix - birthday cakes, christening cakes and, like many PPs, our wedding cake! DH and I were married 3 1/2 years ago, and I think our cake was under $300 for about 100 guests.

I don't think you can go wrong with anything from a Publix bakery. :thumbsup2

Even the premade "specialty" cakes from Publix are amazing. We've ordered all of my daughter's birthday cakes from them (except this year, I made her a rainbow cake and our dog ate it. Not kidding! We had to run to Publix for a premade cake), and they are really willing to do pretty much anything ... I've never had them tell me no for anything ...

Another "thumbs up" for Publix bakery and their cakes. The cakes are just marvelous, and the staff is easy to work with.

I think Publix cakes are good the first day or two, but if they sit more than that they are extremely quick to dry out. We had a Publix cake for my mom's birthday in May and they told us it needed to be refrigerated (no problem) we took it out of the refrigerator well before serving it and it was nice, but after it was cut the leftover cake was stale within a day or two and we ended up having to throw the leftovers away. Part of it might have to do with it being packaged in a cardboard cake box so if you can move the leftover cake to a airtight container it should stay fresh longer.

I was told that all Publix Bakeries are not created equal. The one near Disney had good reviews but we ended up going with it's Tasty Too. They are affordable and make pretty cakes. The Boardwalk Bakery is expensive but he cakes there are fantastic.

Will your bday be spent in Orlando?

While I'm sure the pp is pretty correct (not all Publix bakeries are created equal) we have four (or five) in our town that we regularly stop in at. Made me think about how non small town our small town is though, lol ... We also stopped at the Champions Gate Publix last week, and other than the construction going on, their bakery was equally packed. I've worked with at least three of the Publix's in our general area for birthday cakes alone.

This thread just reminded me how much I'm at a grocery store though ... lol.

I use Publix for all of my cakes. I always get all my kids birthday cakes there. They are very accomodating. They made the cutest snowman donuts at Xmas. It was a glazed twist donut decorated like a snowman.

We live in Orlando and love the Publix bakery. Not only are their cakes delicious but so are their specialty items. Costco cakes and cupcakes are also very good and well-priced but they're huge. You'd need a large group to finish one, but it sure is worth trying.

Go with Publix. They have the best cakes and the best price.
When DH and I got married almost 10 years ago Publix did our cake, it was a 3 floating baskets( basket weave) with live flowers, it was perfect for our day. Everyone commented on not only how pretty it was but that it tasted yummy too..

My DD is getting married next March and they will be going to publix as well for their cake.

With Publix you get what you want and a little extra they will go the extra steps to make sure that you are happy.

We were recently in FL and dh bought me a Publix chocolate cake out of the case for my birthday. Best cake ever!

This is my favorite cake from Publix. When we are at WDW in June, I always go get one for my birthday cake. And if I can avoid eating it all in just a few days, it will last the entire week in the refrigerator.

The worst cake I had at WDW was one we ordered for our son's birthday at the GF shaped like Mickey Mouse. It cost $50 and was the driest thing I have ever eaten. Publix beat it hands down.
