Princess and the Frog review!

I saw it Friday at the AMC24. It was done as part of the NFFC Winter Extravaganza and we had one auditorium to ourselves. At the end of the movie there was a panel of seven animators from the Orlando area who had worked on the movie and we discussed their part and recent and upcoming animation with them.

I have to admit, that after the string of not so great movies and direct to DVD stuff being churned out, this was not on my list of movies to see. But after seeing the Riverboat show at MK, I can't get the music out of my head. I can't wait to see the movie and buy the soundtrack. With the positive press and the #1 slot in box office this weekend, I'd say things have turned around. Avatar comes out next week and the reviews say that the special effects are wonderful, but the story is severely lacking.

Just saw it and was blown away! This was classic Disney animation. Charming story with some heartrending moments, touches of humor, and extraordinary artwork. Tiana is a delightful addition to the Disney Princess pantheon. My husband (who has relatives in New Orleans and the bayou) was very impressed by the quality of the background art that he felt captured both as well as the music. Highly recommend it to all who love Disney animation.

I'm a little disappointed in the box office for Princess and the Frog. The movie was great, right there with some of the Disney classics of recent years like Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast. Hard to believe that Alvin and the Chipmunks will make more the P&F.

We just saw it this past weekend and I love it! I am very excited about Disney's return to 2D animation and only hope that it continues!

My family & myself loved this movie. We saw it opening night (12/11) and this past Monday evening. It definitely sits in my top-5 all time favorite Disney films. As one of the pp's mentioned, it is rather unsettling how such a film with positive reviews & feedback could tank like it is box-office wise. I think the main reason for the failure is that people don't trust Disney traditional animation after Treasure Planet, and Home on the Range. I'll even admit to being skeptical of P&F when I first saw the previews. But when word got out that this new film was nothing like Disney's animated abominations of the early to mid years of this decade, we gave it a try. Certainly glad we did.

Once the public realizes that P&F has a feel and storyline comparable to early 90's hits such as Mermaid, Aladdin, Beauty & the Beast, etc, then it will start to do better.

And then there is the final and most obvious reason...the economy. More families with children are spending less. Going out to the movies with a family of four can break you. The DVD sales of P&F might do great...but a night at the movies carries a pricetag which may be distracting families.

But regardless, this is a classic Disney film and to those who sit it out...your loss. Disney is back!

This is a fantastic movie! Truly an instant classic; perfect phrasing! I only hope that Avatar is as good as this; then I'll definitely be really happy this holiday season lol

Disney knocked this one out of the park for sure. Do you think they released it at Christmas time to keep in in the Academy's mind for best animated film. A little Disney vs. Pixar for the Oscar?

Funny, I liked Treasure Planet, but I was also young then too.

P&F was amazing and a true return to form for Disney. I only hope the box office does better for it.

It was better than what I was expecting from the previews. They put a decent amount of effort into the animation. Not great but I'll give the art a B.
I think it needed to be a little bit longer though. I didn't really buy the prince falling in love after being shown how to chop up vegetables. They needed to develop that more over time. The end of the Witch Doctor was pretty abrupt as well.
Had some wit and good humor but I was looking for a little more in witty/hidden/inside humor category I guess. I'll give the story line a B- (for the rushed feeling) but a solid B for the entire thing overall.
At least it wasn't ripped off like the Lion King or horrible animation quality like the Little Mermaid.

It requires a lot of explanation for anyone under 10. We're not from New Orleans so had to explain the villain to my kids, had to explain his motivation, had to explain that "deals with the devil" were being made, had to explain Mardi Gras, had to explain the parade King (not being a real king).

I think I saw, in the 30 min. preview at Disney EXPO, who bought the building out from under Tiana. Did this get cut?

Big, big buildup of the alligator and his life long dreams. Very little payout on that story arc.

And even Disney today has to rely on a fart for a laugh.

The animation was the best in a long, long time.

I thought the movie was forgettable. Good animination but very weak story line. I left feeling "ho-hum" -- definitely not singing a tune from the movie. I truly felt it was not on a par with B&TB, Little Mermaid, Lion King, or even Aladdin.
