I'm having DS baptized in May, in a Presbyterian church. He'll be 18 months at the time, so I'm wondering what he should wear. I was thinking just a simple white or ivory suit. Is there traditional garb for the Presbyterian faith? (I just converted from Roman Catholic). I haven't seen a baptism yet at the church.

Also, how dressed up should DD be (she'll be almost 6 at the time)?

Thanks!

It depends upon the church. (some are more traditional and conservative) My children both wore a family baptismal gown and bonnet, as do most of the babies I've seen. I've also seen boys in white outfits, and older children in "Sunday Best." But I go to a fairly "formal" church. (Suits/jackets and ties on most men. Dresses or suits on women. People become more casual after Memorial Day until Labor Day) DD was 10 when DS was baptised, and she wore her Easter outfit; it was also a May baptism.

We attend a very small Presbyterian church and the baptisms we have had the children have been dressed in normal Sunday attire. In fact, everyone in the family has been the clothes they wear to church on a regular basis.

I belong to a Presbyterian church and your DS would only wear a pair of dress pants and a nice shirt for a baptism there. WE are quit a large church but I wouldn't wear anything more than what you would normally put him in for church...being in his Sunday best.

Our Presby church is on the formal side. I was raised Baptist, so we didn't have a "family" baptism gown. DS was about 7 months old (and huge)..he wore a little white cotton shirt and pants set. The girls each wore a simple baptism gown. Most wear white/ivory, but if the child is older, just dressy clothes.

DS was baptized on the same Sunday morning as one of Ross Perot's grandaughters...I'm certain that her baptism gown cost more than my wedding dress!

We had our DD baptized when she was about 16 months old. I got a pretty white cotton dress at Baby Gap. It came to mid calf and she wore white tights with it. I just took her shoes off for the ceremony. I think a white or ivory suit would be fine. Babies R Us might have something. I think just a nice dress would be fine for your DD. Something she'd wear to church or a special occasion (nothing too bright).

I am Presbyterian and I agree with the others. A cute dressy outfit will be fine.

We're Methodist, raised Presbyterian...Older DD was an infant and she wore a family baptismal gown. Younger DD was 14 months and she wore a very pretty ivory dress. Boys usually wear the gowns in infancy and ivory/white suits at your sons age+. Your DD will be fine in a nice dress. Even in churches where people don't dress up anymore baptisms are usually still special dress occasions for the family involved - at least that's what I've noticed. :wave2:

Our DS was baptised at 18 months also and was pretty big, now way was he fitting into any Christening attire. So I got him a baby tux, with short pants. He wore white dress socks and black dress shoes. I'm looking at his photo now and it was adorable. I can't remember the site I went to, but I do remember it was only $40.

Exactly the same here! :)

Both my sons were baptized in their regular, every-Sunday type church clothes. Nothing fancy. :)

I am Presbyterian and it's whatever you want, really. I did the white christening dress for my DD, but am not a fan of the froofy clothes for boys like what I saw for Christening outfits, so he wore a button down shirt with a sweater vest and a pair of tan pants. He looked adorable and that was more my speed than a white suit for my little guy.

DD wore a dress for DS's baptism, nothing extravagant, just one of her regular church type dresses.
I have seen "church clothes" and the christening clothes during baptisms at my church and both are perfectly acceptable. It's up to you.
