Photopass photographer using my expensive camera? Thoughts?

I am curious about your thoughts and opinions. This will be our third Disney trip in three years. For the past two we have done photopass. I was underwhelmed to say the least with the photos so we will more than likely not purchase the photo plan this year. I've always handed my moderately expensive camera to the photopass photographer to get a picture with my camera. So that leads me to my two questions. I have just purchased a pretty expensive camera, around the ball park of $2000.00. Would you fork over your camera to the photopass photographer? Also, I didn't purchase the extended warranty from best big but still can for another week or so. Should I? Pretty horrible reviews about their warranty follow through. Thanks!

Everyone of course tries to be very careful with guest items. I have two suggestions if you want to use your camera - always have a neck strap that you can give to the photographer and, if you aren't using photopass, just say so. If someone hands me their camera and says they don't want PP it's totally fine. I'll then take more photos with your camera. Also, if you have one big heavy camera, then please don't hand over a iphone. It's hard to concentrate on using the nice camera when I also have this tiny little phone to hold onto. Don't worry about your camera. I personally would cry harder if I broke a guest camera over the Disney camera. In the two years I've worked there I have never heard of a photographer breaking a guest camera. Just remember that neck strap!

Thank you. We always try to be mindful of the pp person. That being said, we have always just asked for photos with my camera (with a strap) and the pp camera. Also, I'm sure there are great pp photographers, it just seemed as if we didn't find them. Some of the photos were all in all pretty bad. Thanks for the info!

I totally understand. I'll look through guest photos in the view stataions when people want to buy prints and wonder if the photographers ever went through training. Everyone did, but sometimes it looks like they either fell asleep or just didn't. Then again, there are times when I look at photos and they are the best things ever.

I have a Canon ID3 and usually have on either the 24-70 or 16-35 lens equipped. The photopass people regularly ask if I want some taken with the camera and I usually fork it over. You can tell some know more about cameras than others, but I always get the settings the way I want them while I'm in line so they don't need to change anything when I pass it over.

They will of course be careful with Guest cameras. I'm sure no one would want to get in trouble for dropping a camera, no matter if it is a $100 camera or a pro camera. The Photopass Photographers use Nikon D7100's and that is an $1100 camera. The also have a $500 flash and a decently priced lens. They use Guest cameras all the time, they'll be careful. They don't want to ruin anyone's vacation by breaking your camera.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate your insight! I think I'll just carefully hand it over and say thank you!
