This might be a silly question, but I was hoping someone out there could possibly help me with this one.

DD is having a terrible time right now with her feet peeling. She almost always wears flip flops all summer, but has been working long hours for the past several weeks with guard and the marching band. She has been wearing gym shoes for long hours and it is very HOT here so I am sure her feet are doing some terrible sweating. Marching has been hard on her feet before but this year it is a bit worse. She is having a fit!! How in the world can she ever wear flip flops again!!!??

Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas to maybe help get her feet back to normal? I would surely appreciate any suggestions.

It might just be athlete's foot but after working at a pool I know some guards got nasty foot infections from the locker rooms.

Certain Dry (extra strong anti-persperant) can be used on feet. It's great at keeping them dry. A lot of times keeping them dry will stop peeling. It also helps keep away athlete's foot and warts.

Also, many people don't know this, but peeling feet (or palms) can be a symptom of strep.

Hope this doesn't gross anyone out but...;)

I find that disposable razors do a wonderful job at removing dead skin off your feet. It works much better than emery pads, and the skin on your feet is much thicker than your legs, so "nicks" aren't really a problem:thumbsup2 .

I got the idea after watching how much dead skin the aesthetician scraped off my feet using their little scraper...

Oh, and I don't use the same razor I use on my legs - I have a dedicated "foot razor" instead :rotfl: .

Pretty intersting. Thanks for sharing.

it sounds weird but what helped me was I used a product I think it is called "Cow Balm" it is in a green tin and has a picture of a cow on it, they sell it at walmart just rub it on her dry heels at night and put on some old socks (that you dont mind getting a little dirty) and leave it on all night after doing this for a week you will definitly notice a difference.

bag balm! That stuff smells nasty but it does work. Ok, maybe nasty is a strong word, but it's got this smokey, burnt wood smell to it.

I have a pumice stone I keep in the shower and do my feet with that to keep the dead skin in check. I've heard of the athletes foot/peeling association, so that might be something to consider and treat appropriately.

Yeah thats what its called, I couldnt think of the name. But your right it does stink a little but it really works well.

Thanks to all.

DH is going to the pharmacy right now to talk to the pharmacist and see what they recommend.

I recommend a pedicure with a paraffin dip. It will be a nice relaxing reward for her after all that marching, plus it'll get her feet back into sandal shape. I plan on doing the same for my peeling feet this weekend.

That's actually a really good idea. The only problem is.. there are only 2 days throughout the 7 day week she is not practicing, doing football games or competing right now. I might just try to fit it in for her in one of the other two days off.

I'd go for a nice pedicure and let them scrape all that stuff of. Then I'd slather her feet with Vick's VapoRub at night and put socks on to hold it in. She probably has a bit of foot fungus from the marching/sweating/sneaker thing, and for some reason, Vick's VapoRub seems to cure the fungus. Do that for about a week, until the feet seem nice and healed. Warn her that the first few times she does this, her feet will be "a-tinlging"!

Then go online and Google a cream called Rexeme. Buy it...it is expensive but worth it...and have DD put it on in the morning and night. It is better than Bag Balm, Nivea, Aquaphor, and any other cream that I know of currently on the market.

Her feet will be gorgeous.

The pharmacist recommended talcom powder. He says to have DD rub this on her feet for the next few night and see if that works. Have any of you ever tried this? I guess because her feet do not itch or burn they are just peeling (badly) and the powder could help dry out the skin if it is peeling from sweating.

She really is upset about this. She is embarrassed and is afraid someone will see her feet and say something mean.

Thanks again for all of your suggestions.

well im a teen dancer( and softball and soccer player) so my feet suck, especially from pointe. i usually just completely smother my feet and heels in something like vasaline intensive care lotion( or the like) and throw on a pair of socks. also i soak my feet in warm water then use http://www.drscholls.com/product.aspx?prodid=98 to file them down(its icky but it works)
also let her know that no one is going to stare at her feet, and if anyone notices just say its from marching, with the number of kids on the school teams with bad feet many wont care.

There are special razors that you can get to shave the thick dead layer of skin off. That really helps any cracking. After you shave the dead layer off, start using Kerasal twice a day. Put a thick layer on and then put on nice warm socks and allow the lotion to heat up and into the skin. It works great! Then get one of those instruments that Tink mentioned and towards the end of each shower (after the dead skin has softened) use that file thingie. Truly, this helps dead, cracking, peeling skin on the feet! I used to have a horrible time with cracking and bleeding on my feet but since I started this routine, I've had no problems whatsoever!

I would suggest you consider changing the type of socks and maybe shoes she is wearing. Does she have shoes that are leather or are they "leather-like"? So many of the new athletic shoes aren't real leather anymore for some reason. If you can get her a pair of mesh type breathable shoes and good socks for hiking that might help reduce the moisture around her feet. Also suggest she remove her shoes and change her socks at breaks if possible.

You might consider speaking to someone at a good athletic store for socks that wick away perspiration.

I agree with putting on a good layer of cream or lotion and socks at night. I use Neutrogena hand cream and it helps me a lot.

Do speak with her doctor if this continues or worsens, okay? If it is not easily fixed it could be something that needs treatment.

EXCELLENT point about the socks. Cotton socks, contrary to popular belief aren't that great because they hold onto moisture. DH is an active bicyclist and runner and swears by the smartwool brand. He's never had a problem with excessive moisture and chafing.

Although I'm not personally familiar with them, aren't the Geox shoes ventilated?

Well, after the performance on the field tonight, she thinks her feet are getting worse. I think they might possibly get a little worse before they get better, because I think all of the dead skin needs to come off. Her feet do not itch or burn which would make me be a bit more concerned. I will definately take her to see the pediatrician if they do not seem much better in the next few days.

My son's feet were peeling, did not itch or burn and he had athlete's foot which has to be treated or the skin will be damaged forever. I would take my daughter in to see the doc to get a clear diagnosis. You could be treating the wrong thing.
