We are DVC (former AP) & live 1.5 hrs from WDW & go all the time but only been to WDW at NYE once - in 1999!! (Remember when we thought the world would end when it turned 2000?!) Trying NYE this year. Right now MK & EP out of park reservations. Doing HS & have hoppers but believe if they close MK & EP for capacity we can’t get in even w hoppers? Anyone know historically what time they have closed the parks on that day? Thanks in advance!

Correct. Hoppers do not grant you access to a park closed to capacity.

We cannot really give an accurate answer to this as 2024 will be the first NYE since 2019 when park reservations are not required for the majority of guests.

To clarify, are you asking what time historically parks have closed to new admittance or for the night?

Parks can close at any time if they reach capacity but honestly we don’t know when that might be.

That is more complex then you may think. There are multiple Phases when Parks start closing to additional guests during times of extreme capacity demands.

Your best bet is to meet as many factors that Disney uses to limit capacity. First by being an on-site guest, second by having a Hopper ticket, and next would be to have an ADR at the Park you want to enter. While these don't guarantee you access they improve your chances of still getting in as they increase the "Closure" Phase on any specific day like NYE.

The basic rule apples try to hop to MK early if you want to be in the MK and plan to settle in just in-case they start Closure procedures. You are no longer required to hop at/after 2 PM.

They close at different levels and can reopen as guests leave. MK is usually the first to limit Guest entry and historically happened even before 10 AM.

As @scrappinginontario posted above we don't have any Capacity closure data since 2019 so this year will be a new frontier with only having a limited Park Pass reservation system. The newer Date based tickets don't require a park reservation while AP and UN-dated tickets still are limited to a park reservation.

Thanks so much! Was wondering re ADR. We are DVC & will be staying at Bay Lake w date based hopper tickets. We are usually AP but doing more Universal this year so doing date based tickets so do we not need a park reservation w those? I can’t recall what we did earlier in the year!

Date based tickets have not required a park reservation since mid-Jan of this year.
