I was just wondering if anyone has ever been to the Tyler Place family resort in Vermont. We have 2 boys, the big one is 3 and a half, and the little one is 15 months old. We just went to Disney in July and loved it. But we will not be going back for 3 more years, when the boys are 4 and 6, so they will be able to ride the same things. So we are looking into other things in the mean time that will still be fun for all of us, and definitely nothing boring for little kids!

I found a resort called Tyler Place in Vermont (Lake Champlain). It includes just about everything, all meals, all activities, and children's activities too. They have children's activity groups for little ones even younger than my little one, so there would even be things there for him to do. The only thing that makes me skeptical about going there is that parents and their children DO NOT have dinner together. So, my concern is, what if my kids want to eat with me and not the kids' club? Anyone have experience with this? I do not want my kids to be miserable!

I wanted to do a cruise with my parents and sister because Norwegian has the kids' camp for kids as young as age 2, but DH still insists on not going yet on a cruise until he is at least potty-trained, and old enough also to listen to us and not keep running away from us! DS3 listens now and is potty-trianed but we had a hard time with him on a cruise when he was 18 months old. I told DH that they have the camp for 2-year-olds on NCL, but he asked what if he doesn't want to do it? So that was the end of that conversation!

Anyway, any input on Tyler Place would be great!

I am also wondering about Woodloch Pines in Pennsylvania. It is pricy (so is Tyler Place) but also includes everything. However, kids' clubs start at age 3 or 4 so my little one won't be able to participate.

If I was you I would push for the cruise idea. While I do love the Vermont area for an extended weekend trip is there really enough stuff to keep you busy the whole time. what about your little ones? Even if he is handful you can still get your breaks when he goes to the kidsclub on the cruise, and who knows each kid is so different he might be easier to handle there your oldest. We loved the NCL Freesyle cruising when my oldest DD was toddler. We had more flexibility in nap times and could go on her schedule a bit more, if she was sleeping from a long day at port I didn't have to wake her up to get her to dinner at a certain time. Perfect, she would wake up refreshed and ready, instead of being woke up and cranky!

I totally agree with you. However, DH sees it in a different light and I am not forcing the issue and making him unhappy and miserable, especially during our vacation! We spoke earlier today and he said he wants to do something more low-key next year and lower cost too. Maybe a few days in Lancaster and go to Dutch Wonderland and Hershey with the kids. He wants to enjoy more of the things here to do with the kids in NY, and we will have the money to do it if we have a smaller vacation. Plus, we would go to Sesame Place for a couple of day trips, it's less than 2 hours to drive there, and you get 2 days during the season for the price of the single day ticket.

We did however talk about the possibility of a Bermuda cruise out of NY in 2 years, when the little one will be 3 and the big one will be 5. Or maybe go out of Baltimore (it's much cheaper, and even with paying for gas to drive there it is still much cheaper than sailing out of NY). At age 3 they listen more to you than at age 2, I have found. They understand more and there is a huge difference between ages 2 and 3 from what I've seen.

Still would like to know about Tyler Place though, just curious.

I am from New England and have done a lot of the Maine-NH-VT things as a kid, and now am taking my own kids all around.

I haven't been to Tyler, though, so I can't help you there. But have you considered doing the White Mountain region of NH? In and round North Conway, Jackson, Glen, Bartlett, etc...?

There are a bunch of awesome kid sites like Storyland, Attitash, The Flume, Lost River, Santa's Village, hikes galore, camping, cottages, etc.....

The parks there are neat because some are 'under 4 free', free parking, free strollers, day stamp/returns, etc....

Yes, the White Mountains in NH would definitely be an option for us, and we have been considering both that, and also Lancaster, PA. How far a drive is the White Mountain region from NYC though?

Well....it would take you less time than to drive to Disney :rotfl2:

Ok...it would be a good drive. There are probably a couple of different routes you could take, but I am thinking 7 hours? minimum?

I know it's 3.5 hours from NYC to my hometown outside of Boston, then from my hometown to North Conway, NH is ~4 hours.

I have a good friend who as been to tyler place and really loved it. what i remember from her discussions a few years ago:

1. there is a waiting list for the "good weeks" - (august/july mostly). family's go year after year the same week. if you sign up for a less busy week on year you get priority placement in a better week the next year ( if available).

2. it is very expensive

3. there is family time and couple time everyday. i think the kids do clubs in the morning, then the family has lunch and afternoon together, then the kids do the dinner clubs while the adults do a more upscale dinner.

4. she said it was a very relaxing layed back kind of vacation.
