Can anyone tell me what the original price per point was for Old Key West (Disney Vacation Club Resort) when it first opened? Also, how many points were initially required for purchase? Was always curious about this.

Thanks!

I remember something like $41.00/point with full park passes until a certain date. I can't remember when the free passes ran out. Maybe that was just a special promo because it was before they opened as the DVC.

The free park passes were through the end of 1999.

Wow, look at those prices. I hope those early faithfuls hung in there so that they can now really enjoy the system! :)

Yep, we bought at the start of 92. AT the time we were very stretched financially, but you are correct - we are reaping the rewards and enjoying every minute of our OKW ownership! The best thing we ever bought (apart from the marriage licence). And we enjoyed 8 years of park passes, the amount of passes was dependent on the size of property you chose to stay in on each visit. I think for a studio you were given 2, a one bedroom you were given 4. It's a long time ago, so I will stand corrected on that.

The Limited Theme Park Admission Program Incentive was available to buyers from 1991 - 1995 and even included early buyers at VB.

The number of passes provided was equal to 1/2 the occupancy of the villa - Studios and 1BRs got 2 passes, 2BRs received 4 and GVs got 6 passes. These were Park Hopper passes and were good at MK, EC and MGM - but were not good at AK when that park opened (except for one day when all other parks were closed in anticipation of Hurricane Floyd).

The Admission program ended on December 31, 1999 - and that was the end date included in our original documents. VB owners were able to use the passes only when staying at OKW - just like OKW owners. Those who purchased after the incentive stopped could still purchase Park Hopper Passes with a 10% discount and that perk was continued even after the Incentive program stopped at the end of 1999. The 10% discount ended a couple of years ago when DVC members could get a $100 discount on APs.

Reluctantly, DVC allowed members to get the passes during 1999 even if they had used points borrowed from the 2000 Use Year to make the reservation.

I was told that each day used on a pass cost DVD about $35 to the Theme Parks division.

Oh those were the days

We bought a resale in 1998 for $53 a point , it was for 230 points with 120? Banked , and the passes.

We borrowed from 2000 , took 6 trips with passes and in my estimation recouped way over half my initial investment in DVC in 2 years.

Don't forget you can't just look at previous prices and think what a bargain. You have to allow for inflation. If those early prices were adjusted to today's dollar, they'd be in the $80's/point.

We purchased for $57.50 in '93. That would be somewhere around $90 in today's dollars.

Still cheaper than current prices, but not that much less when you consider some of the discounts available.

If you don't factor in inflation, you can't get a true feel for what something cost years ago.

The charter members in 1991 were promised a "substantially equivilent" replacement for the park passes, that never materialized obviously.

I don't think anyone answered this part of your question OP. The original buy-in was either 230 or 240 points.

I don't know, Dean, I think the $100 discount on APs is pretty good. I do kind of miss the 10% off the park hoppers though. It was something we always used for our guests.

As noted in the chronology posted above, the original minimum purchase was 230 points. It was lowered eventually to 150 points (with stops at 210 and 190) and has now been raised to 160.

There was never any "substantially equivalent" language in any of the DVC documents and very few ever reported being told that by their guide (Richyams is the only one I can think of over the past 10 years).

Are you suggesting that comments by salespeople should be accepted as legal provisions? :teeth:

Do you think the price per point will go up for OKW if it has the extention
compared to not purchasing the extention ?

We are still debating - we have till January 31st to decide.
(To take advantage of the $10.00 savings.)

What are your thoughts ............

it's been discussed elsewhere if you want to search. the short version: it will go up but not enough to make it worthwhile. DVC is raising the price for OKW add-ons by $4...but charging $15/$25.

Yes, and that is exactly why we will NOT do the extention. We wont be getting any "value" out of the extra 15 years....don't plan to be alive then, so it doesn't make sense for us.

Nope, I think you know me better than that by now. All I'm saying is that it happened.
