I've never once in my life taken NyQuil. Ever.

I think I am either getting sick, having bad allergies, or extremely exhausted.

I have MAJOR sinus pressure/headache and I am a little congested. I am more tired than anything, and I feel like a good, long night of sleep could do me well.

Everyone here at work keeps telling me to take NyQuil, it'll knock me out and I will sleep well.

My mom says that it hypes her up, not to take it that it keeps some people up all night long.

So... does it work for you?

It knocks me on my butt for about two hours then I get all the worst side effects. My heart races, I am dizzy and disoriented, I get very agitated. The first time this happened I thought it was because I was sick. The second time I almost went to the emergency room. Nyquil is a bad choice for me. I do take the orange Dayquil capsules because they help with the cold symptoms without making me feel like I am going to fly through the ceiling.

NyQuil is my 'go to ' med. It works great for me, I get sleep and usually feel good the next morning. My brother has the same problem as your mom. So just b/c it reacts in one famiy member one way it dosen't mean it will react that way for everyone. You won't know until you try it.

I always get a great night's sleep when I take it. But I'm sure that you'll have those that don't like it. Hope you're feeling better soon. :wave2:

It knocks me out, though not immediately. Actually, the night before races, I'll do a shot of NyQuil right before bed to help myself fall asleep mainly because a) I'm going to bed earlier than normal owing to insanely early race start times, and b) I'm nervous about the race. NyQuil makes all of that go away. :faint:

Same here. I fall asleep quickly, then after a couple of hours I wake up and can't fall asleep.

BUT, it is what my husband takes for eveything. Everytime one of the kids is sick he tells them to take Nyquil. We always say that if their leg got cut off, he'd tell them to take Nyquil and go to bed.

I hate medications, so I rarely take them. On the rare occasion that I have taken NyQuil, it has knocked me out for the night and left me feeling drugged for about an hour the next morning - but it helped me sleep every time...

Nyquil makes me jittery and makes my mind race!!! I don't take it at all, it doesn't put me to sleep like it does for other people.

Hmm... sounds about 50/50. Maybe I will just pop an extra Benadryl... those typically work for me. I could maybe take a pain pill left over from strep that I had late last year... those knocked me out, too.

NyQuil is one of the few things that helps me sleep when I'm sick. BUT somedays I wake up feeling REALLY hung over.

I've never used it but my dh swears by it when he gets a cold.He sleeps all night after taking it-even with the worst colds

I love Nyquil when I have a cold!!! It seems to be the only thing that really works to help me sleep. I take a little less of a dose though- I don't take a full one. I don't know why, but if I take a full one, I feel groggy in the morning. With a little less, it seems to be perfect!

I love Nyquil. Helps me sleep and I feel better the next day. The pain pill on the other hand... I feel better for short term, but get a migraine as they start wearing off. :headache:

I'm no expert, but since they sell Nyquil over the counter here (not behind it with signature, like most of the cold meds), I really have to wonder if it's the same Nyquil that used to knock me out. I'd take a cold pill plus a Tylenol p.m.

The regular dose shown on the bottle KEEPS me from sleeping... but if I take HALF the recommended dose it knocks me out for 8 hours! Try half the dose... and suggest the same for your mom. Also, I can only take 1/2 a Benadryl. Same thing.
