NYNY or Flamingo

We are looking at spending 3 nights in Vegas at the end of August to see George Strait. I have never been so help would be great.

Looking at both the Flamingo and NY NY as both are in our price range ... we plan to relax by a pool see the how, possibly check out the outlets, and I'd like to see the Bellagio lights ... Which hotel would you recommend?

Also, we are wondering cheaper spots to eat while there, but still good quality. Suggestions? We are trying to do this portion of the trip on a budget (we are spending 1/2 our trip in San Francisco area which will be quite pricey) ... Basically we are big George fans and are going to vegas to see him.

Also interested in best way to get to our hotel from airport - are there shuttles?

I would pick NYNY, we found the flamingo run down and very smokey. We found that we shared meals everywhere, as the portions were huge. The burgers at Bobby Flays were so big that we couldn't finish it sharing.

I'd say the opposite and pick The Flamingo over NYNY - found NYNY smokier. Flamingo also just had a major renovation, has some nice pools, and outside areas. You can watch the Bellagio fountains from some of the rooms. The casino at NYNY is nicer but Flamingo is centrally located so I usually walk over to Ceasar's Palace or the Bellagio to gamble. I think the best deal for a meal in Vegas is the lunch menu at Estiatorio Milos at the Cosmopolitan. Insanely fresh greek style seafood. 3-courses for $25 (splurge for the octopus). Yardbird is also good - that's at the Venetian. For very high quality at reasonable prices there's Sage at Aria. If you have a car and are willing to leave the strip some of the best Thai food in the country is in Las Vegas. Edited to add: you'll need to take a taxi to the hotel. They have a monopoly.

I'm a Flamingo guy. Love the place. With a strip view you can see the Bellagio fountains from your room.
I like the pool there much better than NYNY. But in all fairness I haven't stayed at NYNY since 2005.

I love Thai!! And we have no Thai here sadly. But we will have no car

Well, taxis are cheap. Lotus of Siam is considered the best Thai restaurant in the nation. Chada Thai is considered the second best. Both are amazing.

I've never been to NYNY. Flamingo is very convenient to many things. They also have a pool party atmosphere at the Go Pool during the summer if you are interested in something like that. For me, it's too loud and the summer heat makes the area stink, but the drunk people at the pool don't seem to mind.

I stay at the Desert Rose Resort right behind Tropicana and Hooters. It is so quiet and a pool , jacuzzi, and a little kids pool. Full kitchens, 1 and 2 bedsrooms and the couch folds out to a bed. The place is enclosed by a gate. And still close to that end of the strip.
If you like Earl of Sandwich there is one in the Plane Hollywood
So many good eating places. And so much shopping
Check out

Groupon.com

you can get some good deals for eating and fun things around town for a lot less money.

I love the M&M store, and the Coke store

We stayed at Flamingo last summer for my 25th birthday trip. Is it just you + partner, or do you have children coming along? If you have kids, the Flamingo was pretty rowdy (possibly too rowdy) Within 24 hours I saw drunk people passed out by ice machines at 8 am and heard someone running up and down the halls banging on doors at 3 am the next day. I can't compare the two because I haven't stayed at NYNY, but I won't be staying at Flamingo again.
