I've also learned to double check where you're going after you get in the car. One time I asked "how much longer" since it seemed like a long way to Orlando airport. When he told me it was about another 45 minutes, that's when I found out that something had messed up and he thought I was going to Tampa airport! Also, I've always used Uber (only because that's what I knew of) and I've never gotten surge pricing. Every trip has been within a few dollars and I always tip in the app.
