I am going to a baby shower for DH's cousin next weekend. On the invitation it asked that instead of giving a card with the gift please give a book for the baby with your name and note inside so the child will grow up with them.

I'm kind of at a loss of what to write in the book. If I was giving a card to the mother it would be congrats or something along those lines but not really sure what to write to a baby who could end up reading the book for years to come:confused3

Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks!

When I do this for baby showers, I always pick a book that I grew up reading or particularly enjoyed as a child. Then on the inside I write something along the lines of "I picked this book because it has so many wonderful memories of when I was growing up. I loved when my mom read it to me. I really hope you enjoy it and it becomes a part of your childhood like it did for me" or something like that. :) Pick a book that would have a meaning or memory and write that inside the book to make it more personal and special. Hope this helps! :)

I have to say I really hate when they ask for this. I end up just signing my name on the inside cover. Plus the last shower there were about 4 books that were the same, now she cant even exchange them because they were all written in!

The last baby shower that I went to that collected books, I wrote "wishing you many nights of bedtime stories and sweet dreams." I bought a bedtime book, sorry, can't remember the title.

To solve the duplicate book problem, I didn't write inside the book. Instead I typed the saying with my name on card stock with a pic of the book from the internet, punched a hole in the corner and tied it to the book with curling ribbon. That way, if she needed to return it, she could.

Honestly this happened at my shower when we did the book give. We ended up with 3 copies of Green Eggs and Ham. It turns out it is my kids' favorite book and it is a good thing we have 3 copies. One for each kid in their rooms and then one in the play room. Books get ruined pretty easily in the hands of kids so it is nice to have extras on hand at times

I got two copies of the same book but I put one in his room to let him read from and one in the diaper bag for on the go.

No one asked for something to write in a book but my friend wrote in a book and she wrote a nice message about to our future child and how he should know how much he was loved even before he was born. It was a very sweet message and I really appreciated it!
