Renaissance is the best, Roosevelt is good but the rooms are small, Comfort Suites Highland is okay but the pool is tiny, the Universal Sheraton and the Universal Hilton are fine and just a quick subway ride from hollywood Boulevard.
Hollywood itself is still kinda gritty and rough around the edges. I wouldn't stay there with a family, it's not a "vacation" spot.
